Volume 1 Chapter 17 The Demon That Wants To Die

 That day, to improve my relationship with my sister Nana, our magic teacher, Mom Emma, ordered us to gather in the forest and cook lunch together. So, Nana and I went to the forest near Grove Village.

 (…This is awkward. If this keeps up, I won’t know what to talk about. Maybe I should start with the weather, and then talk about what Nana likes.)

 I look up at the sky.

 The weather is nice… but those annoying little demons buzzing around are really distracting.

 ”Um… Nana, it’s great that the weather is nice today. Let’s enjoy gathering together! I know most of the things we can eat and can’t eat around here, so just ask me anything!”

 Nana seems to be focused on the demons in the sky, staring up intently.

 ”Ah… Nana, are you worried about the demons up there? They usually run away quickly…”

 I follow Nana’s gaze and look up at the sky.

 Wait… that little demon is looking this way.

 Normally, they wouldn’t come close, so what’s going on today?

 I hope it leaves soon since Nana is scared…

 ”…Brother Rob, that person is scary…”

 Nana is scared… I could go fight it, but those things can fly away fast…

 Oh, for some reason, it’s flying over here… does it want to die?

 *Thud!*

 The demon that came down from the sky landed right in front of us.

 ”Eeek…”

 The demon ignores me and keeps staring at Nana as if it’s sizing her up.

 I stood in front of Nana, trying to stay out of sight of the demon.

 ”Hey, do you need something from us?”

 In ‘Princess Rave’, there were a few demons (female) who were allies, so I thought I’d ask just in case.

 …Maybe this one could be a good demon.

 The demon glared at me and shouted,

 ”Hey, move! And send the girl behind you over here!”

 It seemed like the demon in front of me really liked my angel (sister).

 …Maybe I could talk to this one.

 ”I refuse. My sister is scared of you. …Why don’t you just say what you want?”

 They wouldn’t pick a fight with someone stronger than them for no reason, so they must have something to say.

 I forced a smile to not scare the demon.

 The demon looked puzzled for a moment, then pointed at me and started gathering Magic Power.

 ”Get lost… ‘Dark Shock’!”

 ”Oh? ‘Magic Shelter’!”

 ──Bam!

 …Looks like this one isn’t a good demon, just a death-seeker.

 I placed my hand on the hilt of my [Dawn Sword] and walked toward the demon.

 ”Y-you… how did you use that magic just now?!”

 ”…What are you talking about? It’s normal to use magic like that.”

 ”No way! …You creepy thing, I’ll kill you!”

 For some reason, the demon started to panic, extending its claws and lunging at me.

 I gathered a bit of Magic Power in my feet and [Dawn Sword] for just a moment, dodging the demon’s attack, then sliced off the arm with the extended claws.

 ──Slash!

 ”Ugh!”

 The demon looked shocked, backing away while holding their injured shoulder.

 They stared at me with wide eyes, looking really confused.

 ”What, what, what are you!?”

 ”You’re a weird demon… You came at me because you want to die, right?”

 ”There’s no way that’s true! …Damn it!”

 The demon spread their wings wide, as if trying to escape.

 I gathered Magic Power in my right hand and released my magic.

 ’Lightning Shot’

 ”Aaah!”

 ──Boom!

 It seems like I managed to take them down.

 That demon who wanted to die should finally be satisfied now.

 I smiled and spoke to Nana, who was behind me.

 ”Phew… Nana, the scary person is gone! Now we can have fun at the Gathering──”

 ──Hug!

 I was suddenly hugged by Nana.

 ”Brother Rob… sniff…”

 ”Nana… umm… okay! Can you let go a bit?”

 ”Yeah…”

 I picked Nana up like a princess.

 ”…Huh?”

 Nana’s eyes widened, and she looked surprised.

 ”Let’s take a little walk in the sky, princess.”

 I lifted Nana and used gentle wind magic to slowly fly up into the air.

 (I did the same thing with Rumi before, but I made her scream because I shot up too fast. This time, I’m focusing on making Nana enjoy it!)

 Magic Detection activated.

 (If there are any demons or monsters nearby like before, it would ruin the mood. If they get too close, I’ll turn them to ashes.)

 Nana was strangely staring at me, frozen in place.

 It’s such a beautiful view, but I want her to enjoy the beauty around us, not just me.

 ”Nana, you can see all of Grove Village! It’s an amazing sight!”

 ”…D-Do you like me, Brother Rob?”

 ”Huh? …O-Of course I like you!”

 ”Then why do you always sleep at Ms. Rumi’s place?”

 ”Um… I guess it’s because I don’t want to leave Rumi alone.”

 ”…So, do you like Ms. Rumi more than me?”

 ”N-No, that’s not true! If the roles were reversed, I would definitely sleep by your side, Nana!”

 ”Can’t we bring Ms. Rumi to our house and all live together?”

 ”Ah… At first, it was because Rumi believed her parents would come back, so we couldn’t. But now… I-I don’t know unless I ask Rumi.”

 ”Brother Rob, you just lied… You know the reason.”

 *Gulp.*

 ”C-Can I ask why you think it’s a lie?”

 ”With my special ability ‘Emotion Recognition,’ I can see the color when you’re lying.”

 ”…Sigh… You’re right, Nana. I probably like using her as a pillow at night…”

 ”…It doesn’t seem like a lie, but there’s more, isn’t there? …Please don’t keep secrets from me.”

 Saying that, Nana looked at me with a slightly sad expression.

 (Am I… making Nana feel lonely all this time?)

 A strange feeling rose up in me, like the world had turned upside down, but I couldn’t just fall to the ground, so I forced myself to calm down.

 And so, overcoming the conflict in my heart, I decided to tell Nana everything without hiding anything.

 ”…You’re right, Nana. It’s better for her and I to be alone when using the ability called ‘Cell Enhancement Itemization.’ …Um, it’s because we need to do some intimate things, and it would be awkward if someone walked in on us during that.”

 Nana’s expression softened, as if a weight had been lifted, and she smiled at me.

 This time, I felt so excited that I almost lost consciousness, but I couldn’t fall to the ground, so I desperately tried to calm myself down.

 ”Gulp… If that’s all it takes, I’ll do it as much as you want! Ah, but I’ll have to check with Rumi about how often I can come, but I’ll definitely stay over in Nana’s room!”

 ”I’m so glad… I can finally sleep with big brother~♪.”

 (…A…an angel (little sister)ーーーーー!!)

 In that moment, a warm feeling spread in my heart like a sunny spot. Nana’s smile sparkled like a small star, lifting my spirits even higher.

 I’m really happy.

 I can’t believe this day has come.

 The day I can fulfill Nana’s request has arrived, and I’m already filled with happiness!

 ”Ah, I have one more request! …Please don’t use ‘Affection Insight’ on me anymore! I can tell when you’re using that skill. …If you use it, I might end up disliking you!”

 ”U-Understood!”

 (Whoa! Did she find out I was using it?!)

 ”Brother Rob, please close your eyes.”

 ”Okay!”

 I squeezed my eyes shut as hard as I could, feeling like this was my limit.

 My heart was racing.

 It seemed like I was a little nervous about Nana’s request.

 ”…Just keep them closed, okay?”

 Following her voice, I closed my eyes even tighter.

 I thought about Nana in my mind.

 Her smile, her gentle voice, and more than anything, I wanted to feel that warmth.

 *Mwah…*

 I felt a soft kiss on my cheek.

 I couldn’t help but let out a small sound.

 ”…N-Nana?”

 ”Hehe… After Papa and Mama would fight, they always kissed to make up, so I wanted to try it too~♪.”

 I got so excited that I started to bleed from my nose.

 *Spurt!*

 ”Ah! …Brother Rob, are you okay?!”

 From that day on, once a week, Nana, me, and Rumi started sleeping together in a line in Nana’s room.
