Volume 2 Chapter 11-2 The Beginning of Dungeon Exploration

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 ”He stank something fierce.”

”Yes. Moo-Moo’s assessment was that there was no direct malice…”

It’s unclear, but I suppose we needn’t concern ourselves with it.

We decided to continue exploring the dungeon while keeping an eye on our surroundings.

In the cool air, only the sound of our footsteps echoed, dominated by silence.

After walking a bit further, Lifia suddenly stopped.

”Master, something lies ahead. There are people… and monsters. They are fighting.”

Lifia detected it with her sensing magic.

I nodded and responded in a low voice.

 ”How far away is it?”

”Very close. I can hear the sounds.”

As we advanced cautiously, the sounds of clashing swords soon reached our ears.

Along with the metallic clanks, we could hear deep groans and heavy breathing.

Peeking around a corner, we saw a cave opening into a spacious area like a plaza.

There, 3 adventurers were fighting against 2 monsters.

 The monsters had human-like skeletons.

 Skeletons, perhaps.

They wielded tattered swords and shields, moving awkwardly yet surely attacking.

The adventurers seemed to be a group of younglings, still unaccustomed to battle.

They were wielding their weapons, but their movements were wasteful, and they lacked coordination.

Even to my eyes, the adventurers seemed to be at a slight disadvantage.

Should we help, or should we just pass by without getting involved?

 I was hesitating.

”Avoid contact. I don’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble.”

 I conveyed this to Lifia.

She seemed to agree, nodding slightly.

As we turned to leave, a loud shout echoed.

 ”Aaargh!”

Looking back, one of the adventurers, a young man with a shield, charged at one of the skeletons.

The skeleton was sent flying by the impact of the shield, heading straight for us.

 ”Ack!?”

As I raised my voice, the flying skeleton hit the ground.

The skeleton got up and looked our way.

Its eye sockets, dark and hollow, faced us.

 ”Mooluum, Air Impetus.”

Along with Lifia’s quiet voice, her spirit magic activated.

A burst of wind struck the skeleton, bones flying everywhere.

The skeleton’s body shattered, and it stopped moving completely.

In the meantime, the adventurers seemed to have taken down the last skeleton.

I could see the young man swinging his sword, delivering the final blow, and the skeleton crumbled to the ground.

 ”We did it!”

After defeating the skeleton, the adventurers let out a sigh of relief, relaxing their shoulders.

But as soon as they noticed me, their gazes sharpened.

Looking down at the fallen skeleton, its bones crumbled away like sand, leaving behind a red stone on the ground.

 ”Is this a magic stone?”

 Curious, I picked it up.

It was the size of a marble.

When I held it in my palm, it felt warm and emitted a mysterious glow.

 ”Hey! That’s our prize!”

 Suddenly, a voice shouted out.

I turned around to see a young adventurer with a shield glaring at me.

 ”Wait! Stop that!”

A woman in a robe, looking like a magician, stopped the adventurer.

She glared back at the shield-wielding man with a serious expression.

 ”But!”

The young man pouted in dissatisfaction, but his eyes were still on the stone, not ready to give up.

 ”I don’t mind.”

Saying this, I lightly tossed the magic stone back toward them.

The red stone made a clink as it rolled to their feet.

However, the young man still looked annoyed by my action.

What did he want me to do?

 ”Sorry, he’s a bit hot-headed.”

The magician smiled wryly and bowed her head.

”Thank you for your help. You can have the magic stone.”

”No, it’s fine. Besides, you were the ones fighting first.”

I waved my hand lightly in response, and she smiled in relief.

Meanwhile, the shield-wielding man still looked unhappy, but when I started to leave with Lifia, he seemed to hold back his complaints.

 Lifia whispered to me.

”Master, those people might be new adventurers.”

 ”That could be true.”

But it wasn’t the time to laugh at the adventurers.

It was Lifia’s Spirit Magic that defeated the skeleton earlier.

I needed to check how well I could fight with my spear.

Relying entirely on Lifia wasn’t a good idea.

 ”Master, there’s one ahead. It’s a skeleton.”

I took Lifia’s words and looked ahead.

”This time, I will try it.”

 ”Understood.”

Soon, a skeleton appeared, holding a worn sword and a wooden shield.

The sound of creaking bones reached my ears.

Once it noticed us, it rattled and started coming toward us.

The sound was also like a creepy laugh.

 I readied my spear.

The skeleton raised its sword, but its movement was slow.

 ”Huh!”

 I moved first.

My thrusting spear hit the skeleton’s body directly.

It felt like a solid impact.

But, it didn’t go down with one hit.

The skeleton wobbled but quickly steadied itself.

 ”How about this!”

I swung the spear high, using centrifugal force to slam it down hard.

With a crash, the skeleton’s bones shattered.

The small pieces scattered on the ground.

 It crumbled down.

As I watched the disappearing skeleton, a red stone was left behind.

It was indeed a magic stone.

”Phew. This should be easy to hunt.”

I let out a breath while catching my breath.

 ”Good job, my master.”

 Lifia smiled at me.

For a while, we continued hunting skeletons.

With each one, I felt more confident.

If it was just skeletons, I seemed able to fight without relying on Lifia’s strength.

They must have been fledgling adventurers from earlier.

 ”I can handle this much.”

While picking up the magic stone, I murmured that.

 Lifia nodded gently, still smiling.

The dungeon exploration was just beginning, but this didn’t seem too difficult.
