Volume 2 Chapter 13 The Bone Cave
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Hah!”
I swing my sword, cutting off the skeleton’s body, and its bones scatter loudly on the floor.
Instantly, I face the second skeleton rushing at me, and I block its sword, pushing it away.
Seeing my chance, I swing my sword again.
The skeleton shatters into pieces and falls apart.
Only a red stone remains.
”Phew…”
Fighting 2 at once made me nervous, but I managed without trouble.
My sword feels more comfortable in my hand now.
”Excellent job, Master!”
A beautiful girl with blonde hair, blue eyes, and maid clothes runs over──Lifia.
Her innocent smile makes me forget the fight’s fatigue.
Thanks to the high defense from the Love Hotel armor and unlimited potions, I can fight safely.
More than that, I feel secure knowing Lifia is behind me.
That trust helps me stay calm.
After walking a little further, Lifia closes her eyes and starts sensing with Spirit Magic.
”Master, there’s a new monster. One creature.”
”What kind?”
”It looks similar to a skeleton, but it’s not humanoid. It moves on 4 legs.”
Moving carefully, we finally see it──an undead creature like a dog made of bones.
It looks like a wolf, and it glares at us with bones clattering as it moves.
”Air Impetus!”
Lifia casts a spell.
The invisible wind rushes at the bone wolf, but it leaps and dodges easily.
”Air Impetus! Air Impetus!”
Lifia keeps firing.
But the bone wolf dodges quickly, closing the gap little by little.
”Lifia, fall back!”
I step forward, protecting Lifia, and swing my sword, but the bone wolf sidesteps even that.
It’s faster than I thought.
Before I realize, the bone wolf takes advantage of a brief opening and rushes in.
Its wide-open jaws aim for my neck.
Instinctively, I thrust my left arm out, readying to block my neck.
The sharp fangs of the bone wolf bite into my left arm.
But in that moment, it created an opening.
I swung my sword with my right hand and sliced the bone wolf in half.
Crushed bones scattered everywhere, and the bone wolf stopped moving.
And there it was, the red magic stone left behind.
”Master!”
Lifia rushed over in a panic.
Worry filled her eyes.
”I’m fine.”
I replied while looking at my left arm.
I felt no pain.
My jacket had no holes, and there were no wounds.
The bone wolf’s fangs looked sharp and powerful, but…
I stroked the sleeve of my jacket in admiration.
”I didn’t know it was this sturdy… As expected, Love Hotel gear is amazing.”
I was once again impressed by the power of my gear.
”I’m so sorry, Master. I couldn’t help…”
Lifia lowered her shoulders and murmured in a sad voice.
My heart ached a little at the sight.
”It’s okay, don’t worry about it.”
I said to comfort her, but she didn’t seem convinced.
”But because I couldn’t hit, you were in danger, Master…”
Lifia’s eyes showed regret and a sense of responsibility.
Sure, I was safe this time, but if more than one bone wolf appeared, it might be hard for me to handle alone.
I needed to think of a plan for the future.
”Alright, let’s come up with a strategy.”
I activated the skill “Love Hotel.”
I pointed to the red door that appeared for Lifia.
”This is perfect; we can have a strategy meeting while we take a break.”
”Yes…”
Lifia answered, still a bit down, and we both entered through the door.
Inside the room, we sat on a fluffy sofa and prepared warm tea.
I placed a steaming cup in front of Lifia, and she whispered, “Thank you,” as she gently touched it.
”Now, let’s get back to the topic. Lifia, do you understand the problem with the current attack magic?”
”…Is it that it can be dodged?”
”That’s right. Since it’s an attack at a ‘point,’ it’s easy for quick enemies like the bone wolf to avoid it.”
Lifia frowned, listening seriously to my words.
”So, I want you to try attacking with ‘lines’ or ‘planes’ next time. Imagine shaping the wind like a sword or spreading it out like a board.”
As I explained, Lifia’s eyes widened a bit, and she tilted her head.
”The wind… into a board, you say?”
”Yes. For example, a sharp line like a sword drawn by the wind. Or, a wide board that traps the enemy’s movements. If a board is too hard, then we can send multiple swords flying in parallel. In short, we just need to block their escape.”
Lifia set down her cup and clenched her small fist.
”I understand. It seems difficult, but… I will try!”
There was a light of determination in her eyes.
I nodded and smiled.
”Alright, I trust you. You can do it, Lifia.”
”Yes, Master!”
We left the Love Hotel and began our dungeon exploration again.
”Master, I found one. A bone wolf!”
Soon, Lifia sensed it.
As we moved forward, we spotted the bone wolf again.
It seemed the enemy noticed us too.
The moment the bone wolf saw us, it let out a low growl and rushed towards us.
”Alright, give it a try!”
”Yes! Mooluum, Air Sense!”
As Lifia cast the magic, the air in front of her shimmered.
A blade of wind was taking shape there.
The shimmer paused for a moment, then flew towards the bone wolf.
The bone wolf tried to jump and dodge like before, but this time the magic had a wider range.
It couldn’t avoid it, and the edge of the blade grazed the bone wolf’s leg.
It was just one strike, but its power was enough.
The bone wolf lost its balance and rolled as if it was slammed to the ground.
”Chase it!”
”Air Sense!”
Lifia immediately unleashed the follow-up magic.
This time, the bone wolf took the wind blade head-on and was sliced in 2.
Then it stopped moving.
”I did it…”
Lifia’s voice was mixed with surprise and a sense of achievement.
”You did it, Lifia!”
”Master! I did it!”
