Volume 2 Chapter 4 Fake Bandits

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Tifi’s carriage was being attacked by someone.

The moment I heard Lifia’s words, I jumped up.

 ”Lifia, run!”

 ”Yes!”

We ran through the town streets.

Thanks to leveling up, my body felt much stronger than before.

Every step I kicked off the ground, I sped up smoothly.

Lifia kept up without falling behind──she was reliable.

 While running, I checked again.

”How many? What do they look like?”

”About ten, all mounted on horses.”

It was good that the spirit’s magic could detect the situation.

 But riding horses?

They didn’t seem like normal bandits.

Whatever the case, we had to hurry.

We kept running for a while.

The carriage had moved far ahead.

 It was frustrating.

I kept thinking as we ran.

 What was the group’s goal?

Only Tifi and the coachman were on the carriage.

Even if it was robbery or kidnapping, I couldn’t see how bringing ten people was worth it.

They must have a solid reason.

”Master, the group has moved. They left the road and entered the forest.”

 ”And Tifi?”

”She’s with them. I can’t see the details.”

 Damn, Tifi was their target.

Finally, the carriage came into view.

 Someone was lying down.

 The coachman.

He was bleeding badly but still alive.

Sweat ran down his forehead, and he looked like he was in pain.

I wanted to rush to Tifi, but I couldn’t leave the coachman to die.

I needed to use a potion──but did it have to be a medium one?

”Lifia, how does he look compared to me when I was hurt?”

”He looks less injured than when you were hurt, Master.”

If it was lighter than when the orc hit me, a few Lesser Healing Potions would do.

 I activated my skill.

Jumped into the Love Hotel and grabbed 5 Lesser Healing Potions from the fridge.

 ”Hold on!”

I poured the potion on his wounds, and they closed fast.

 Amazing effect!

”Ugh… You guys, are you the customers from before? That’s right! The bandits took that girl!”

 He woke up.

He’s going to be okay now.

”Alright, we will chase after Tifi.”

”Wha, that’s crazy! There were ten bandits!”

The Coachman desperately tries to stop us, but we can’t just stand here.

”It’s fine. You go to the capital and report it.”

I said this to the Coachman and ran into the forest with Lifia.

We dashed through the woods, led by Lifia.

It’s easier to run than in the goblin forest.

Of course, it’s a place where we can ride horses.

After running for a while, Lifia suddenly slows down.

”Master, the target has stopped a little ahead. They seem to be taking a break.”

 I think.

 What should we do next?

The enemy’s identity is unknown, and there are ten of them.

They seriously injured the Coachman, showing they have no hesitation to kill.

They took Tifi, but their purpose is unclear.

We have 2 main cards to play.

My Love Hotel and Lifia’s Spirit Magic.

My spear… honestly, I don’t think it will help much.

A beginner with slightly better physical ability can’t win against people who kill without a second thought.

The Love Hotel can be used as a safe zone, but that’s all.

It’s good for hiding after securing Tifi, but until then, I can’t expect much from it.

It’s easy to find the enemy and Tifi’s location with detection magic.

But the problem is what to do once we catch up.

Lifia could blow the bandits away with her wind magic.

But adding the condition of not hurting Tifi makes it much harder.

 Plus, can Lifia even kill?

Even if she could, I don’t want her to.

The versatility of Spirit Magic is important.

 Think.

What can we do, and what can’t we do?

The spirit Mooluumventas can sense presence and control the wind.

 But is that all?

If we can apply it, our tactics should expand.

By the way, Lifia’s spells sometimes include words like “voice” or “whisper.”

Is there something we can do in that direction?

”Lifia, can we hide our presence from the enemy?”

 ”I can’t. I’m sorry…”

 Lifia looks down sadly.

 She’s so cute.

”No, it’s fine. I just wanted to check.”

It seems manipulating visual information is impossible.

What about other types of information?

”So, can we hide our presence, the sounds we make, and our voices?”

 ”…! We can do that!”

 Lifia looks surprised.

The wind is the movement of air.

If we can control the air, then we can control sound, which is just air vibrating.

That thought seems to be right.

 ”Mooluum, hide us… Silence!”

As Lifia chants the spell, magic spreads around us, and the wind starts to flow quietly.

The air around us calms, and I can tell that even if we move, our footsteps and presence are being silenced.

With this, we should be able to sneak up on the enemy without them noticing.

Following Lifia’s guidance, we soon see a small settlement.

In the land where the forest has been cleared, crumbling houses are scattered about.

 Is it an abandoned village?

The eerie silence gives it a strange, creepy feeling.

”Most people are gathered at the biggest house with Ms. Tifi. There are a few others patrolling.”

Looking where Lifia points, there really is a noticeably large building.

It might have been the village head’s mansion once.

 ”How’s Tifi doing?”

”It seems she’s not hurt, but she looks really scared.”

We need to rescue her quickly.

”I want to know what’s happening over there. Can we hear their conversation from here?”

”Their voices…? I’ll try. Um, is it like this? …Eavesdrop!”

As I quietly chant the spell…

 ’Seriously, this is so annoying.’

Sounds come as if someone is right there.

 ’Stop whining.’

’But, come on! This job feels just like playing at being a bandit? Killing the coachman and kidnapping a woman!’

’Isn’t an easy job a good thing?’
