Volume 3 Chapter 14-2 Booze, Old Men, and Incorrodible Steel
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”What, I thought you were going to be more wild. How boring.”
Beckus, hearing my reply, hung his head and sighed.
He seemed to be expecting a more shocked or hesitant reaction.
”This guy here, he’s an adventurer from the dungeon’s third floor.”
Gaedaf cuts in.
”Hohou, that’s a surprise too. Can’t judge a book by its cover.”
Beckus mutters while eyeing me up like he’s appraising me.
Appearances are deceiving.
”Well, if you bring the materials, I’ll make you a sword. But──”
Beckus adds with a sneer.
”I’ll charge you plenty for it.”
He seems to be trying to swindle me.
I have cash, but I have no idea what a blacksmith’s rates are.
”How much exactly?”
I cautiously ask, and Beckus answers with a gleam in his eyes.
”One hundred million Aurum!”
”Huh!?”
I yell out loud, shocked.
There’s no way that’s the going rate.
It’s clearly a joke or an outrageous demand.
”Now, I was going to say──”
Beckus teases me with a mischievous laugh, watching my expression.
What a shaky old man.
”But if that little lady lets me grope her boobs, I could do it for free, you know?”
His gaze licks over Kéa’s ample chest.
”No way”
I refuse without hesitation.
”Kéa is mine. I can’t let her be touched by another man.”
”Milord…”
Kéa gazes at me with sparkling eyes.
”How about the other little lady, the smaller one? I’m not picky, you know?”
Now he’s looking at Lifia.
”That’s a definite no.”
”You won’t lose anything, don’t be stingy. Otherwise, it’s 100 million.”
There’s no way I can pay that.
And I can’t use Kéa or Lifia’s bodies either.
What should I do?
As I’m worrying, Gaedaf speaks up.
”Taro, show him the usual souvenir.”
That’s right.
I had completely forgotten about the souvenir I prepared for greetings.
I take out the item from my luggage.
”What’s this? You got something that can replace the little lady’s boobs?”
As usual, he throws out a dirty joke.
I ignore him and show him the souvenirs.
The first one is an amber liquid in a jar with a corner.
It’s whiskey.
A luxury item I got ready for the love hotel’s room service.
Its value in this world is unknown.
”Hmph? That’s some nice glass.”
As expected of a craftsman, he first notices the shape of the container.
His hands move as if he’s handling a treasure.
”But what about the inside? Can it satisfy my tongue?”
Saying that, he eagerly takes the bottle.
He can’t hide his anticipation.
Then he touches the lid and pops the cork out with his fingertips.
It seems he doesn’t even need a corkscrew.
”Hoooh…!”
The moment the cork is pulled out, the aroma fills the workshop.
Beckus’s eyes open wide in surprise.
”This is… incredible…”
He savors the scent, taking a deep breath, and for a moment, he’s silent, expressing wonder.
Then, he tilts the bottle and takes a small sip.
”…Ohhh!? This is…!”
Beckus’s eyes shine as he starts to savor the taste, rolling it on his tongue.
His face is filled with joy and surprise.
”Never tasted anything like this… so deep, and the aroma is so intense…”
His words of appreciation won’t stop.
What he holds is not just any alcohol.
It’s a top-grade product that you’d never find in this world.
”To bring something like this, you must be no ordinary person.”
Beckus’s attitude suddenly softens.
But there’s still a hint of something unsatisfied in his expression.
”But, this is just one bottle…”
Saying that, he looks at Kéa’s boobs again.
This horny old man, really.
”I have another type ready for you.”
I take out another package from my luggage.
Inside is a set of silverware that gleams.
A spoon, a knife, and a fork, all in a set.
”Is that silver? No, it’s not!”
Beckus’s eyes open wide in shock, his face twisted in surprise.
As a craftsman, he seems to have instantly recognized that it’s not a familiar material.
”What is that metal!? It’s not magic metal!”
I calmly answered the excited question.
”It’s stainless, stainless steel.”
I had confirmed with Lifia that stainless was either non-existent or very rare in this world.
I thought that would be enough to pique the blacksmith’s interest, and I was right.
”Stainless steel… corrosion-resistant steel, huh? Where did you get something like this?”
”It’s from my homeland.”
The answer seemed to deepen Beckus’ interest even further.
He picked up the cutlery and began to observe it closely, like looking at a jewel.
He stroked it with his fingers, tapped it lightly, and even brought it to his nose to smell.
”Hmm, this texture is indeed close to iron. But I feel no magic, yet there’s no sign of rust at all. What remarkable technology… Do you know how it’s made?”
”No, I only know it’s an alloy of iron and some other metal…”
I think it was an alloy of iron and nickel.
No, was it chromium?
I don’t know, it’s better not to say something random.
”Hmm, I guess that can’t be helped… With such technology, my skills could reach new heights!”
Beckus’ eyes were filled with burning passion.
”Well then. You’re quite an interesting man.”
Looks like I completely captured his heart with this.
”How about this? You’ll give me some of this booze and stainless as my fee. I’ll make a sword for little lady!”
And so, the creation of Kéa’s sword was set in motion.
