Volume 3 Chapter 2-2 The False Plain
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
When Lifia cast her spell, an invisible shockwave was released from her hand.
A strike powered by the spirit of wind gouged the ground, making the grass sway greatly as it landed.
The surface grass blew away, and the ground shook violently for a moment.
The hidden monster reacted and growled.
But that was all it did.
The surface grass was ripped away, but it seemed like there was no major damage inside.
”It’s tough.”
”Can I try with 5 letters?”
”Are you okay?”
The 5-letter Spirit Magic puts a heavy burden on the caster.
I worried if Lifia could handle it right now.
”If the target doesn’t move from this distance, I don’t think it will need much mental power.”
Determination filled Lifia’s eyes.
Seeing her expression, I steeled myself, too.
In this dungeon’s third layer, I might not be able to hold back.
It’s better to try what we can do.
”Got it. Give it a try.”
”Okay. Mooluumve… Air Lancer!”
Lifia’s voice rang out strongly, and at the same time, the wind around us began to swirl.
The air spear born from her hand shot out in a straight line.
It moved so fast that it was hard to see, piercing the Angler grass disguised on the ground.
The moment the spear struck, a loud roar echoed as the ground caved in.
The place where the Angler grass was thought to be collapsed, sucking its huge body into the earth.
Immediately after, dust clouds rose, and a deep rumble surrounded us.
As the intense strike’s aftershocks lingered, silence fell around.
”Did it work?”
”Yes.”
Lifia nodded with a relieved look.
Sweat beaded on her forehead, but a sense of achievement shone on her face.
I gently patted her head, giving her praise.
Lifia’s proud smile was adorable.
”Well done.”
”Thank you, Master.”
Peering into the caved-in hole, I saw the dead Angler grass.
It really looked like a fish.
The wound gouged by magic revealed white flesh underneath.
Can we eat it?
Adventurers might eat it.
For dinner tonight, maybe I’ll order some white fish meunière from room service.
I felt like that.
* * *
We kept moving across the plain, hunting monster after monster.
Not just the Angler grass but many other monsters.
Like the Blur Bunny that attack in groups.
They look cute, but they make countless copies of themselves to deceive and confuse their enemies.
They are dangerous monsters.
Next appeared the Mirage Brown Snail.
It moves slowly, but its shell reflects the surrounding scenery like optical camouflage, completely hiding it.
Many monsters try to fool the eyes, but Lifia’s Spirit Magic detects living creatures’ presence.
Because of that, we could handle them easily.
Of course, not all monsters can be defeated.
Like the Pole Python.
It stands upright from the ground, grows branches, and camouflages as a tree, waiting for prey.
It’s a giant snake monster.
It looks like a single tree, completely.
Even more troublesome is the Hitchcock, which flies high in the sky, mimicking white clouds.
At first, they seem like peaceful clouds floating in the sky, but they are actually a flock of white raptors with sharp eyes.
If you’re careless, they attack as a group immediately.
It’s said that the two types are the most dangerous on the third dungeon level.
Technically, only the Hitchcock.
The actual danger of the Pole Python itself isn’t so high.
People say its meat is delicious and sells for a high price.
But the problem is that the Hitchcock likes to eat the Pole Python.
Once the snake is hurt and its blood scent leaks into the air, the clouds come down.
The crazy flock of birds swoops down all at once, devouring not just the snake but everything on the ground as if they’re mad.
Its terrifying scene earned it the name “Hitchcock.”
Tifi repeatedly warned us never to mess with these monsters.
So, we were careful to avoid them.
The plain is like a trap-filled stage, hiding a beautiful scene.
One slip means death.
We stayed alert, watching not just the monsters ahead but also our surroundings, and moved further into the dungeon.
”Master, there is a group of humans. They are coming closer.”
Suddenly, Lifia noticed something and raised her voice.
A group of humans.
They are probably a band of adventurers.
We have tried to avoid meeting other adventurers, but it’s rare for them to come toward us.
Do they have some special reason to be here?
”How many people are there?”
”Five. No hostility.”
We stopped to watch carefully.
Soon, the group Lifia sensed came into view.
They must have noticed us too, and stopped at a distance.
One of them walks toward us.
The person coming closer is a tall swordsman.
He has a muscular build and an aura that shows he’s fought many battles.
His eyes are calm and confident, and from his posture, he’s clearly a strong fighter.
He is getting closer step by step.
You can tell he’s watching us sharply as he walks.
It’s not just a simple greeting.
He has a clear purpose for coming here.
”Master, what should we do?”
Lifia asks quietly.
”Let’s hear what he has to say first. If it’s just gathering information, we don’t need to be rude.”
”Understood.”
We waited there, watching to see how the swordsman would approach.
