Volume 3 Chapter 3-2 The Reason for Fighting
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I want to refuse.
Besides, Hasa shouldn’t have any reason to target us.
Maybe we’re being too cautious.
If we don’t make the first move, there shouldn’t be any danger, right?
That kind of optimistic thinking is also popping up.
It’s so frustrating.
At times like this, Lifia doesn’t say anything.
She quietly waits, leaving it to my judgment.
Unless I make a really reckless suggestion, she respects my decisions.
”Lifia”
”Yes”
I decide to make a choice and call her.
”For now──”
At that moment, Lifia raises a tense voice.
”Master! The bounty is here!”
To think of it, it’s true that shadows follow rumors.
’Love Hotel’
I rush out and try to hide through the door.
But faster than I can move, something silver flies toward us.
The target──Lifia!
I swing my sword, blocking it.
A knife falls with a light metallic sound.
Its sharp tip pierces the ground.
I look toward where the knife came from and see a gray-haired man charging at us.
Hasa Fisco!?
So close already!
The man’s face is filled with joy.
His twisted smile makes it look like he’s enjoying a hunt.
”Air Sense! Air Lance!”
Lifia immediately casts magic.
Transparent blades of wind and a lance rush at him.
But Hasa swings his sword, blocking the invisible wind blades and leaning back to dodge the wind lance.
His movement is smooth, almost perfect, with hardly any openings.
Still, for just a moment, his speed drops slightly.
”Lifia, hurry!”
I take that chance, pull Lifia’s hand, and slide into the ‘Love Hotel’ door.
Just before I close it, I hear the sound of wind from outside.
Probably a follow-up knife.
But I manage to shut the door.
The connection to the outside world is cut, and he can no longer interfere in this space.
I collapse right there in front of the door and sit down.
That was close.
I try to control my heavy breathing.
”What the… If we don’t do anything, he won’t attack, right?”
I find myself mumbling.
According to the info dealer, Hasa Fisco doesn’t attack indiscriminately.
Or was there a special reason he was targeting us?
Lifia gave an apologetic look and quietly opened her mouth.
”I’m sorry, Master. Maybe it’s because of my detection magic.”
”Your detection magic…?”
I raised an eyebrow at Lifia’s words.
Her magic was the cause?
”Until he got really close, I couldn’t sense Hasa Fisco. Maybe he was somehow blocking the magic. And he might have noticed our detection magic.”
Lifia reported.
I see.
Considering Hasa’s position, he’d expect adventurers targeting him to use detection magic.
Maybe he thought we were part of a bounty hunt after detecting Lifia’s magic.
This detection magic turning into a problem is a real pain in the ass.
Moreover, even if we weren’t directly targeting Hasa, he must have considered the risk of someone like Gaedaf leaking information.
As it turned out, that’s exactly what happened.
I understood why Hasa was on guard and attacked us.
I displayed an external image from the menu in my hand.
The view of a plain centered on the magic door appeared, with Hasa’s figure shown within it.
Hasa approached the spot where the door had appeared, cautiously observing the surroundings.
His face showed no hesitation or urgency.
’Did it disappear again?’
His muttering voice reached us through the image.
’Just like last time. Completely erased their presence. Could it be a door-shaped magic tool?’
Last time?
Was it during the battle with Fang of Lead on the second floor of the dungeon?
He had already noticed us then, huh.
Indeed, Hasa Fisco is dangerous.
Staying on the third floor like this is too reckless.
We should run.
Running away would be easy.
We just need to wait for Tifi to open the door to the surface from here.
Once the receptionist from the adventurers’ guild finishes her job, Tifi will open the door to this room.
If we just go back to the surface through Tifi’s door, Hasa shouldn’t follow us.
Then it’s safe. As long as we don’t set foot in the dungeon until Hasa is defeated, we can minimize the risk.
But is that really okay?
Can we just end it by running away like this?
Hasa definitely saw us the moment we entered the door.
Partially, but there’s no doubt he’s realized the existence of my skill.
I wanted to keep my trump card hidden, but it leaked out in such a way.
Even just the information that we ‘escaped into the door’ can lead to various speculations.
It could reveal my weakness.
If possible, I’d like to keep my mouth shut.
It’s not worth taking risks for…
But there are some things I just can’t forgive.
Targeting Lifia.
I can’t just leave the guy who tried to lay a hand on my Lifia alone.
It can’t end with just running away.
At the very least, I want to get back at him.
Is there any way?
I glare at the guy displayed on the menu screen.
The displayed image of Hasa stands there calmly, as if challenging me.
”What are you gonna do, me?”
Inside my chest, boiling anger and a rationality trying to maintain calm battle each other.
In the midst of that, an idea popped into my head.
