Volume 4 Chapter 13 Settling Lingering Worries Here
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
We were attacked by the heroes in the dungeon 3rd Floor ‘False Plain’, and we repelled them by encouraging Hitchcock.
Afterwards, we picked up Yomi, a girl who had been left behind by the heroes as a decoy.
We healed her wounds, gave her a bath, and cleaned her up, but she’s still out cold.
She’s gotta be really exhausted.
No need to force her awake.
Might let her rest a bit longer.
But first, gotta take care of some business.
Need to check on the other 9 heroes and see what happened to them.
If they managed to run from Hitchcock, I wonder what they’re up to now.
It’s gotta be tough to survive in that situation.
But Yomi made it, so…
”Lifia, let’s go check on the other heroes. Kéa, you stay and keep an eye on Yomi.”
It’d be good if someone’s there when Yomi wakes up.
Don’t think she’ll cause trouble, but we can’t have her wandering around the Love Hotel on her own.
”Can I not come with you?”
”I’m fine with the 3rd Floor”
Lifia and I originally planned to explore it together anyway.
No problem now that Kéa’s out.
”Understood.”
With Kéa seeing us off, Lifia and I head to the ‘False Plain’.
It’s easy to tell where the heroes ran off to.
Hitchcock must’ve chased them down.
The plain is littered with its corpses and feathers.
Just gotta follow the trail.
Lifia uses her detection magic to trace the heroes’ tracks.
There are water droplets all over the plain, ranging from small to huge.
Some are just a few dozen centimeters across, while others are over a meter.
They’re monsters, Acid Gels.
Usually, they pile up in pits, posing as lakes to ambush prey, but when there’s a ruckus in the dungeon, they crawl out looking for food.
Inside one of the droplets, I see a melting Hitchcock.
The monster that was rampaging through here just a while ago is now on the menu.
I carefully step around the Acid Gels as I move forward.
Then, we catch something else sinking in one of the droplets out of the corner of my eye.
Clothes scraps, maybe part of the hero’s gear.
The owner might already be eaten up.
Looks like they couldn’t run away from that madness.
But the gear left behind is all ripped up and scattered everywhere.
No way to tell how many people it belonged to.
The white feather trail is broken, and after walking a little further, Lifia reacted.
”Found him. One of the heroes, the leader guy.”
”Just one?”
”Yeah. He’s walking toward the exit, but he’s super slow.”
Is he injured, or just completely worn out?
Either way, he sure didn’t come out of this unharmed.
”Check his condition. Mooluumve, Aisklar.”
Lifia chants, the magic wind catches the hero’s voice and brings it to us.
’Damn it… damn it…’
Riding the magical wind, a voice filled with irritation and hatred reaches us.
’Can’t even buy time right…’
Someone’s cursing.
But the only one there now should be him.
’I don’t wanna die!’
Is that a monologue, or griping about fallen comrades?
’Thanks to me dying for you, so just die already. You’re bothering me…’
No way…
Did this hero sacrifice his friends just to save himself?
Not just Yomi, but everyone else too?
What a piece of shit this guy is.
And the survivor?
Just him.
’Yeah, and that hotel guy too…’
Huh?
’I can’t forgive this. I’ll make him regret it for sure.’
Selfish grudge, huh?
’I’ll absolutely torture him to death. I’ll hit on his girl too.’
…
’Heh heh heh, she was a fine girl. I’ll r*pe her while she screams and pleads. No arms or legs, just keep r*ping her till she dies… Use drugs, strangle her, kill her while I do it. Then, then, blah, blah…’
”Lifia, it’s fine now”
”…Yes”
The unpleasant voice ceases, and only the breeze of the wind returns to the plains.
His words are hard to resist listening to.
That’s a setback.
I was thinking about what to do with the surviving heroes, but when this happens, I have no choice but to be determined.
That’s no good anymore.
If that were alive, my family would be harmed.
That’s not acceptable.
Lifia and Kéa are okay.
They can win.
But Tifi is in danger.
Tifi, and my baby in her tummy, are in danger.
Also, Lifia and Kéa can win “now,” but maybe not later.
That guy is still a Hero, even if he’s bad.
He might grow up and be scary.
I can’t stay in a Love Hotel forever.
I can do it for sure now.
Maybe I won’t get another chance.
I have to do it here.
Now, right here.
We ran across the grassland.
To catch up with the one who lived.
Soon, I saw the guy’s back over the plain.
He was walking slow, dragging his hurt body.
He wasn’t okay, even after he used his friends.
”Master, I will…”
”No, I’ll do it.”
This is my job.
I should do it with my own hands.
”I’ll kill him fast. Make no sound.”
”Yes. Mooluum, Silence.”
Lifia used her spell, and I made no sound.
No footsteps, no clothes rubbing, no breathing.
It’s like I’m not even there.
I take my sword out.
No sound, of course.
I run.
No sound, like a shadow.
The guy’s back was open.
Jump.
Swing my sword.
My shadow falls on him.
He turns around.
His eyes are crazy and surprised.
But it’s too late.
”Hyah!?”
He couldn’t say anything else.
My sword swings, and his head flies off.
His face is shocked, and his head flies in the air.
It flies in a curve, then falls and rolls.
And then…
*BAM!*
Something ate his head.
A monster came from under the ground, Angler Grass.
It’s like a fish-monster, hiding in the grass.
The head must have rolled there.
And the Angler Grass ate the head and went back down.
Then, the plain was empty again.
Just me, and a dead guy with no head.
That was the last moment of a boy I didn’t even know the name of, summoned alongside me.
”Ugh… I’m so tired.”
Since coming to this other world, I had killed humans many times.
But it was the first time I had killed with my own hands.
It felt wrong.
Even though it should be the same as killing a monster.
”You did well, Master,”
”Yeah.”
Lifia said as she caught up to me.
She smiled gently at me, as if to comfort the statue I had become.
