Volume 4 Chapter 49 Father and Daughter’s Meeting and the Spirit’s Light

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

A wave of shock and confusion washed over the room.

 Rozmiaque… Lifia’s father?

 I remember.

 The story of Lifia’s birth.

Lifia’s mother, Anele, was the daughter of a powerful merchant guild in the royal capital.

Spoiled, naive, she grew into a woman.

Then, she fell for an elf on his travels.

She was head-over-heels, and they fell in love.

But for the elf… it was just a fling.

A moment of fun, a free love affair.

 That’s all.

Then, without a word, he left again.

 He abandoned Anele.

After he was gone, Anele discovered she was pregnant.

 She gave birth to Lifia.

 Then, she found new love.

She fell for another man and eloped, leaving her family.

Anele vanished, and Lifia, never knowing her father, was raised by her grandfather, the merchant guild master.

And after all that, she ended up with me.

 Now.

And that elf, that Rozmiaque, was Lifia’s father…

…This is awkward, to say the least.

I bought Lifia, made her a s*x slave, dressed her in a miniskirt maid outfit, put her in a garter belt, and finally, I took her as my wife.

Lifia herself… her father, a man she never knew, is suddenly here.

 She must be bewildered.

But perhaps the most confused person here is Rozmiaque.

 The “mongrel” he’d scorned.

That mongrel possesses power rivaling the high elves, the ones he worships.

 And… she’s her own daughter.

 He couldn’t have imagined it.

On top of that, his daughter completely adores, trusts, and follows some unknown guy like me.

For Rozmiaque, it’s a bolt from the blue.

He never dreamed his past mistakes would be thrown in his face like this.

His face is pale, sweat beading on his forehead.

He’s practically groveling on the ground, like a condemned criminal.

 Now… what to do?

 I look down at Rozmiaque.

He looks young, like a youth or a young man.

He might even look younger than me.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think a “Please take my daughter” event would happen like this.

Before, he was the guy who wanted to insult Lifia, but I didn’t like him.

But now that he’s her father, should I change my attitude too?

 Should I call him “stepfather”?

For a “Please take my daughter” event to happen like this…

 ”Master”

While I’m worrying, Lifia calls out to me.

”You don’t have to… treat him as ‘my father,’ Master.”

 Cold words, pushing him away.

At her words, Rozmiaque slumps his shoulders and bows even deeper to the ground.

Does Lifia mean I don’t need to respect him as a “father-in-law”?

Sighing, I decide to get confirmation just in case.

”Just to be clear… before we parted, did you know that Lifia’s mother, Anele, was pregnant?”

At my question, Rozmiaque shakes his head violently and shouts.

 ”I didn’t know! I swear it!”

 Desperately trying to explain.

His face is pale, his voice shakes as he continues.

”Right after pregnancy, I can’t hear the baby’s voice!”

Well, I guess I can believe that.

Lifia only noticed Tifi’s pregnancy a few weeks in.

It’s not like he’s such a monster that he’d run away after finding out a child was born.

Besides, I’ve heard it’s hard for elves and humans to have kids.

Anelle probably never thought she could get pregnant when they were together.

Still, playing with Anelle and discarding her is a fact that won’t disappear.

Lifia doesn’t show much attachment to her mother, but she must still feel some resentment about being thrown away.

For a while, a heavy silence passes.

Rozmiaque, still pressed to the ground, speaks in a hoarse voice.

”Lady Lifia… I am truly, truly sorry!”

He presses his forehead to the ground, his whole body trembling.

”I didn’t know, but… my foolish actions caused Lady Lifia a lot of trouble. And on top of that, I was incredibly rude… I sincerely apologize.”

His words dripped with regret, a deep, heavy sorrow.

Sweat beaded on Rozmiaque’s golden hair, and tears streamed down his cheeks.

It didn’t sound like a father talking to his daughter.

But given their weird relationship, maybe it made sense.

 Lifia stared at him, silent.

 Then, she spoke quietly.

”…I never really had any special feelings for a father I never knew.”

 Her voice was calm.

But you could tell she was fighting back a storm of emotions.

”I never hated you either. Even without a father, I’ve been pretty happy. And then──”

She turned to me, placed a hand over her heart, and gave a shy smile.

”I met Master. Master saved me.”

Hearing that, I sucked in a breath.

Lifia, still looking down at Rozmiaque, said clearly:

”If anything in my life had been different, even a little bit, I might never have met Master.”

Lifia’s voice remained soft as she spoke.

”You brought me to Master. And as thanks, I forgive everything in the past. Including you, of course.”

 Rozmiaque’s shoulders shook.

From under his bowed head, a sob escaped.

 ”Lady Lifia…! Thank you…! This kindness… I am so unworthy…!”

He rubbed his head against the ground, repeating words of thanks and apology.

 ”And… Sir Taro.”

Now he turned to me, still bowing deeply, and continued speaking.

”Thank you for saving Lady Lifia, for turning my mistakes into salvation. I can’t thank you enough.”

Watching him, I gently stroked Lifia’s head.

She leaned into my touch, a soft smile on her face.

 Ah, that’s right.

Looking back, because of this guy’s actions, I met Lifia.

And Lifia… she helped me a lot.

Without her, I never could have survived in this world.

Thinking about that… maybe I can forgive this one.

”Lifia, what does this one feel… for you?”

”Until a moment ago, it was fear, faith, respect… Now, affection has joined them.”

 ”Oh, how… how presumptuous…!”

Rozmiaque, exposed, looked flustered and panicked.

Treating a legendary high elf like a daughter… it must be terrifying.
