Volume 4 Chapter 50 The Messenger of God and the New Loyalty

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 Messenger of the Spirit God.

That’s what Rozmiaque just called me.

 ”Me… the Spirit God’s messenger?”

 I blurted out the question.

 Rozmiaque nodded instantly, no hesitation.

”Yes, absolutely! Only a messenger of the Spirit God could know a spirit’s true name and bestow it on others!”

All the suspicion, all the doubt Rozmiaque had for me──gone.

Now he looked up at me with… awe.

Like I was actually something holy.

 I have to think.

 Is this really true?

Lately, sure, I’ve started to think of myself as a hero.

But even I never pictured getting worshipped as some divine envoy.

”It’s true. The one who gave me this power wasn’t normal. Not human.”

When I was summoned to this world, I met a Glowing Orb in a place where there was nothing.

That’s when I got this skill.

 ”I knew it!”

Rozmiaque leaned forward, bright with excitement.

”But that thing never called itself a god. It never gave me some big mission, either.”

The Glowing Orb from when I got teleported──it never felt like a god, not in any way I imagined.

 If anything, it was machine-like.

Cold, like a system built by people.

”Even so, the power they gave to me──and to the daughter, Lady Lifia──is just plain impossible. To create a High Elf… a miracle only a true god, or their messenger, could grant. You deserve the name, Lord.”

Rozmiaque’s voice came out burning hot.

If this is how they want to see me, is there really any point forcing them to change their mind?

”Fine. Call me whatever you want. Just remember──I’m still just a guy. Don’t forget that.”

 ”As you command, my Lord.”

 Rozmiaque’s eyes brimmed with tears.

 He bowed, deep and solemn.

 ”Wait, Mr. Taro, you’re not just a hero──you’re a god’s messenger?”

”A hero?! Don’t you dare lump our Lord in with those dime-a-dozen brutes!”

Yomi’s joke barely finished before Rozmiaque snapped, voice fiery and sharp.

”When you said ‘hero,’ I pictured some legendary figure. But those so-called heroes──at best, they’re just strong humans. Nothing compared to our Lord. He’s on a whole different level.”

 ”That much…”

Yomi, criticized without reserve by Rozmiaque, felt down.

Even though she was one of the heroes, she couldn’t treat it as someone else’s problem.

”Yomi is way above those guys. Just relax.”

I patted her head gently to comfort her.

”Well, it’s all thanks to Mr. Taro. In that sense, I’m just like Lifia.”

 Yomi smiled, a bit embarrassed.

Rozmiaque, however, seemed puzzled by the atmosphere.

 ”Um, Lord… About this person…”

”Father, this girl, Yomi, is one of the heroes. And Master is the true hero.”

 ”Oh, is that so…!”

Surprised by Lifia’s words, I turned to Yomi and bowed deeply.

”I apologize for my rude remarks. Please forgive me…”

”Ah, no, I’m not… I’m not worried about that anymore…”

Yomi waved her hands in a fluster.

After all, she had already parted ways with the other heroes and blown off steam.

She shouldn’t have to worry about it.

And then I had something I needed to tell him.

 ”Ah, right. Rozmiaque.”

 ”Huh, what is it?”

Rozmiaque immediately straightened his posture and looked up at me.

”You don’t have to use formal language with Lifia.”

”Eh…? But even if she is my biological daughter, to someone recognized and with High Elf power…”

Rozmiaque stumbled over his words, confused.

Seeing him like that, I couldn’t help but inwardly chuckle.

For him, it seemed that drawing out High Elf-level power was more important than the parent-child relationship.

It felt a bit twisted, but that was probably the way elves thought.

 ”I allow it.”

But while you’re with me, I want you to follow my way of thinking.

”As a man, and as a father-to-be, it’s painful to see a father bow his head to his own daughter.”

Rozmiaque’s eyes widened at those words.

After a moment of silence, he bowed deeply.

”…Your concern, Master, cuts deep. I will engrave your words upon my heart.”

 ”Father, I’m grateful to Master.”

Lifia called out with a smile from the side.

Her voice was a bit shy but also full of joy.

”Yeah, uh, sure. Got it, Lifia.”

Rozmiaque turned to his daughter, a bit embarrassed, his movements awkward.

He took a deep breath, and then spoke haltingly.

”…Once more, I’m sorry for leaving you alone all this time. I don’t think I have the right to be a father now. But still…”

Rozmiaque cut himself off, turning to Lifia.

”Even so, I want you to serve the Lord with me.”

Lifia narrowed her eyes a bit, then nodded quietly.

”Yes, Father. From now on, let’s support Master together.”

 Lifia smiled.

No matter what, they were her family.

She was happy if they could get along.

Anyway, I showed Rozmiaque my power.

I gave him the name of the spirit, even if it was just one word.

Knowing the spirit’s name was like getting a divine revelation for them.

There’s no need to doubt their loyalty to me.

 ”I’m okay, Master.”
