Volume 4 Chapter 56 The Human World’s Affairs and the Young Lady’s Horse

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The next day, we headed to the rental horse shop.

To return the horse we borrowed to check the motel parking.

”Milord… are you really returning Anval?”

Kéa was attached to the horse. She hesitated to give it back. She clung to Anval’s mane, pleading with me.

Anval is the horse’s name. Well, Kéa is just calling it that, but it probably has another real name.

Still, the horse itself… seems to be used to that name now.

”We can’t really keep or use it anyway.”

We could just buy it instead of returning. The farm lends out horses like this to first-time customers.

But our place is the Dungeon. We can’t take it exploring. Leaving it locked in the motel parking all day would be cruel.

”Maybe so… but, see, Anval also asks Milord for this!”

 ”Brrr…”

Kéa gently taps Anval’s neck. The horse snorts softly.

Anval watches me with a gaze that seems to call for something.

 ”…Those eyes won’t work.”

The girl and the horse both look down.

”Next time, someone who truly cares will buy him.”

 ”Mmm…”

I walk, calming Kéa who still looks hesitant.

We arrive at the farm, but──

”Sorry, you can’t come in today.”

The worker stops us at the entrance.

”Why? We’re just here to return him.”

I nod at Anval behind me. The man’s eyes flicker nervously.

”Today, we have an important guest…”

The man looks troubled, like he’s unsure.

”Then I guess we don’t have to return him today, huh?”

 ”Heh-heh!”

Right then, Kéa bursts forward, cheeks puffed happily, hugging Anval’s neck.

At the same moment, the sound of wheels and hooves approaches fast from behind.

A fancy, decorated carriage is coming this way.

The staff member quickly straightens up, waving us aside to make way.

Apparently, today’s visitors are nobles or close to that.

That’s probably why they’re keeping normal customers out.

We step aside, watching the carriage pass.

Maybe we should just return the horse tomorrow.

 But then, something else happened──

 ”Lord Taro!”

 Hm?

A voice called my name from inside the carriage.

Then the carriage stopped, and a familiar man jumped out.

He was chubby, around his twenties, dressed in noble-like fancy clothes. His face was gentle and somehow approachable. That’s the guy.

 I know this man.

 ”Sir Iberigo?”

The words slipped out before I knew it, and he burst into a laugh.

”Oh, it is indeed Lord Taro! It’s been a while!”

Yes, the man who appeared was Iberigo.

The second son of a Baron family based in the capital. Due to various reasons, he’s being groomed as the heir now.

After him, a woman stepped down from the carriage.

She looked like a noblewoman, dressed in an elegant gown with long blonde hair.

Her figure was… plump, yet she had an air of refinement.

”Sir Iberigo, a friend of yours?”

”Ah, Lady Arcona, my apologies. This is Lord Taro, an adventurer I once relied upon in this town.”

Iberigo explained to her, then turned to me.

”Lord Taro, this is Lady Arcona of the Marquis Castanope family.”

”I am Arcona Castanope. Pleased to meet you~”

She gave a small bow and smiled gently. Her smile had a soft, fluffy vibe.

”This is very kind of you. I’m the adventurer, Taro.”

I nodded lightly in return, greeting her. Then I remembered. I heard he had a fiancée…

Considering she got out of the same carriage…

 ”Wait, could she be…?”

 ”Indeed she is.”

Iberigo confirmed with a sheepish look, his eyes wandering.

 ”She is my fiancée.”

I once took a job from him. His fiancée was ill, and he asked me to gather medicine ingredients.

They were rare items that no other adventurer could find.

I used my ‘Love Hotel’ skill to prepare the ingredients and handed them to him.

”I heard you were ill, but you seem quite well now.”

Apparently, this Lady Arcona was his fiancée.

 She *did* look healthy.

And her appearance… well, she was rather *plump*. Not what I expected from a frail, sheltered noblewoman.

”Oh, uh, yes… thanks to the medicine… yes, we were lucky to get it… completely cured now.”

Iberigo stammered, forcing an awkward smile.

Judging by his reaction, he hadn’t told her about me or where the medicine came from.

I’d asked him to keep quiet. Promised him not to reveal where I got the medicine.

Guess he didn’t tell his fiancée either.

”You must be Sir Taro. I’ve heard so much about you.”

Huh? Rumors about *me*? Officially, I’m just a Bronze Rank adventurer.

 ”I’m *so* happy right now.”

Lady Arcona beamed, her voice bubbling with joy.

”My illness is gone, and I can finally go out with Sir Iberigo.”

Then she locked eyes with me. Dead serious.

”…I’m grateful to *you*, Sir Taro.”

 Her words. Gratitude for *me*?

Only one meaning: she knows I gave her the medicine.

I glanced at Iberigo. I’d told him to keep quiet. Hard to believe he’d break his promise.

 ”Lady Arcona!? W-what are you—!?”

Iberigo panicked. He didn’t know she’d figured it out?

”Don’t worry. He didn’t say a word. My family investigated on our own. Father insisted on knowing where the medicine came from.”

 Ah. That explains it.

The Marquis family has the resources and connections to dig up anything.

Even if Iberigo stayed silent, it was only a matter of time before they found out.
