Volume 1 Chapter 15 Magic
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Yutia had just finished cutting my hair. The back door of the main house swung open with a bang, and Nico stepped out, carrying a heavy-looking bucket with both hands. Nico approached with unsteady steps, and Yutia took one look at her before averting her eyes.
”What are you just standing there for? Help me out,” Nico said.
I was taken aback, but Yutia remained motionless, her face still turned away. I had no choice but to go myself. As I took the bucket, steam rose from the water inside.
”An emergency Elders’ Council¹ is going to be held, and Larry, you have to attend. Teressa-sama is looking for clothes for you right now, so take a sponge bath and change your underwear. You smell.”
I smell? Me? Apparently, the contents of the bucket were for my bath.
”Yutia, you’re done here. Go bring the sheep back. It’s getting late,” Nico instructed.
”I-it’s fine. I will… do it.”
To my surprise, Yutia actually resisted Nico’s instructions. These two were a lady’s maid and a servant girl who had entered our household as part of Teressa-sama’s dowry, a noble custom from her family’s home. Incidentally, they were the same age. In terms of social standing, Nico was a free person while Yutia was an indentured servant, so it was unheard of for Yutia to defy Nico.
”Listen, we’ve been asked to lend out Carpaccio and the wagon for a full day starting tomorrow. So, Teressa-sama ordered that the sheep be brought back a little early so Carpaccio can be brushed and the wagon can be cleaned.”
Knowing my sister-in-law’s personality, she probably hadn’t called it an “order,” but to these two, even a polite request functioned as a command.
”I already finished brushing Carpaccio,” I said, offering a small lifeline to Yutia since it felt like Nico was scolding her.
”I see. But we’ll be in trouble if the wagon isn’t cleaned. You understand, right?”
Yutia fell silent at those words. Nico didn’t look angry, but I could feel her unwavering will not to back down.
”Yes…”
Yutia gave a small reply and walked toward the fields, her lengthening shadow bobbing along with her uneven gait. I felt a pang of guilt, as if I had done something wrong.
”What are you daydreaming for? Hurry up and take off your clothes. I’ll go get your undershirt and the basin.”
”O-oh, okay.”
Doing as I was told, I began to undress. Nico returned from the main house with an undershirt and a basin, then blended the cold well water with the hot water she had brought earlier.
”Come on, hurry up.”
Once I was completely naked, she told me to get into the basin. Naturally, I felt embarrassed, so I covered my front with my hands and slowly sat down in the water.
”Stick your head out.”
The rim of the basin was about forty centimeters high. When I stuck my head out from there, I ended up in a position on all fours.
”Here I go.”
Water was poured over the back of my head, making my shoulders hunch. Nico rolled up her sleeves and began scrubbing my head with her fingertips. It was cold, but it felt good. After scrubbing for a while, she poured more water and continued. Come to think of it, I used to do this same thing for my younger brothers a long time ago. Before that, my older sisters did it for me—and I even remembered Hans-niisan washing me once.
”Sit down once you’ve washed your face.”
I sat back in the basin and crossed my legs; the water level was just high enough to hide my lower abdomen. Nico moved behind me and began scrubbing my back with a cloth. When I had complained to Hans-niisan that his scrubbing was painful, he never did it for me again. I felt nostalgic for those days—the noisy voices of my younger brothers, and my second older sister, who has since married, used to bathe with us buck naked, everyone shouting with joy.
Now, however, everything was quiet. The male servants hadn’t returned from the fields yet, and Yutia had gone to the sheep. Since they were brewing ale today, the servant girls were also extremely busy.
”Come on, give me your arm.”
I thought I would handle the rest myself after she finished my back, but Nico spoke up. For small children, you wash not just the back, but the arms, armpits, and everything from the ankles to the toes.
”I’m like a little kid.”
”Just give it here.”
I let her scrub my arms as told. Next, she told me to stand. She moved from my buttocks to the back of my thighs. When I said it tickled, she scolded me and told me to endure it.
Then, she carefully scrubbed the places where dirt tends to accumulate, like below the knees, between the toes, and around the ankles. Then, while still crouching, Nico looked up. In an instant, her face turned bright red all the way to the tips of her ears. Was it because she was right in front of me, and my lower abdomen was right in the middle of her face? After a heartbeat, Nico stood up and shoved the cloth at me.
”Do the rest yourself!”
”Ah, yeah.”
”Make sure you clean up afterward!”
”Yeah.”
”What’s with you, growing hair like a grown man…”
My ears didn’t miss her final whisper as she grumbled under her breath. Since around this summer, my downy hair had started to take on color. It wasn’t thick yet, but the hair above my p**is was clearly, though shortly, discolored. Well, Tim, who is the same age, started growing his last year, so I was a late bloomer. I wiped my body with the towel Nico had prepared, put on my undershirt, cleaned up the basin and bucket as instructed, and returned to the main house.
”This is one of Iffens’s old things, but I wonder if it will fit?”
From among my brother’s clothes that my sister-in-law had laid out on the large dining table, I chose something that looked like it would fit my frame.
”That one looks good.”
Grey trousers and a thin, madder-red fleece jacket. It felt a bit large, but if my sister-in-law said it suited me, that was fine.
”Yutia cut it for you, didn’t she? That girl is quite dexterous despite her disability,” she said. After brushing the lint off the clothes, my sister-in-law patted my buzz-cut head. I felt so happy my body stiffened. Unfortunately, the scent of the clothes mixed with her scent, so my Happiness Points for today were a bit lower than usual.
”Do you remember the woman who came with Uncle Klaus-sama?”
”The short person he said was his mistress, right?”
”It seems that woman is pregnant.”
To those words, I could only respond with a “Huh.”
”And so, Klaus-sama says he wants us to look after her at our house.”
My sister-in-law fluttered a letter before handing it to me. It read:
[I am busy with the war and likely won’t be able to visit the village for a while. Starting from next month’s Monthly Market, I am sending my subordinate, Grete Briesemeister, to assist with the tax month. She is pregnant, but it shouldn’t interfere with her work. My wife, Camilla, also knows about this.]
Nowhere did it say “look after her.”
”I don’t quite understand. Is that small person going to be living here?”
”Yes, it seems so. I’m happy to have her here during the tax month, though.”
During the tax month, we couldn’t just handle things at the end of the month; we had to keep the Village Head Tower² open on every odd-numbered day. It was the busiest month of the year for a Village Head.
”Who is this Camilla?”
”It’s written right there—she is Klaus-sama’s legal wife. She’d be your aunt, but perhaps you’ve never met her, Larry?”
I wondered if she was the person the coachman, Tommy, had called “nagging.” I had no memory of her.
”Is it really okay to take her in?”
”Well, Klaus-sama is a vassal to a Viscount, so it wouldn’t be strange for him to have an illegitimate child.”
Personally, I was worried about whether bringing that gloomy-looking little woman into the house would cause problems with the servant girls or the villagers. My sister-in-law seemed to be worried about something else. Come to think of it, I had a memory of Nico saying something about my uncle making her a concubine.
”Um…”
”Let’s stop. What will be, will be.”
I didn’t really get it, so I handed the letter back to my sister-in-law.
”I’m sorry. More importantly, what should we do for Larry’s celebration?” My sister-in-law’s face brightened. “Klaus-sama said we should wait until he returns, but according to that letter, it will be quite a long time before he can come to this village.”
”That’s true.”
I voiced my agreement, but that wasn’t really my concern. It wasn’t something I could talk about with her, anyway. I couldn’t exactly say, “Just give me some money.”
”Oh, I know. Herta!”
She called for Herta, who was giving instructions to the servant girls.
”Tell me, is there any cowhide left?”
”Are you perhaps going to make something for Larry-bochan? There’s enough for a vest.”
”Yes, for his coming-of-age celebration. But he is in a growth spurt, isn’t he?”
”In that case, how about a hat?”
That sounded like a good idea. The two of them measured my head size and the length of my face. Apparently, I was going to receive a leather hat handmade by my sister-in-law? Since I had only ever worn straw hats for children or farm work, I had a longing for the kind of hats adults wore. While this was going on, people began to gather. Granny Ferris, Daniel-san the blacksmith, and Bours-san the instructor arrived one by one, but Nico, who had gone to call Alberto-san, hadn’t returned yet.
”Shall we head to the Village Head Tower for now?”
We each took a seat at the oak table in the Village Head Tower. Everyone seemed to have a designated spot. I brought an office chair behind my sister-in-law and sat down. “Before Al gets here, there is one thing I must say,” Granny Ferris began abruptly. “Regarding Larry—he can use magic.”
At those casually spoken words, Daniel-san and Bours-san’s eyes widened. My sister-in-law looked down, perhaps knowing what Granny was going to say.
”Furthermore, I judge him to have considerable talent.”
Daniel-san looked at Granny Ferris, and Bours-san stared at me with his eyes still wide. “Then, how about I have him show me a Fireball after we do a bout? Larry, come over here.”
I looked at my sister-in-law, and she nodded silently, so I went over to Granny. As I usually did with my sister-in-law, I held my right hand upward and my left hand downward. When Granny moved to match her hands to mine, I tried to grab them, but she pulled back.
”What’s this? Have you been doing Dwarf-style³ Kumite⁴? How tacky. Listen, for the Elf-style⁵, you just need to place your hands near each other. Do you understand?”
”Hoh, hoh, hoh! An Elf putting on airs, as usual. If you grip properly, it becomes easier to flow Mana. Obsessing over form is unsightly!”
”Hmph. A Dwarf lecturing an Elf on magic? How arrogant. Fine. Larry, listen well—we are doing it the Elf-style now.”
The two of them had businesses facing each other across the laundry street, but I felt like I had never seen them actually speak to each other. Their words didn’t make them sound like they were on good terms, but both of them were smiling. Putting that aside, this time I placed my hands on the hands Granny held out.
”I’m going to let it flow… slowly.”
From this point on, the conversation audible to the outside world ceased, and it became a world shared only by Granny and me.
”Increase it a little more.”
I increased the amount of flow as I was told. Since I wasn’t gripping tightly, the tingling sensation in my palms didn’t disappear completely; instead, it gradually grew hot.
”Come now, more.”
Gradually, the Mana I received from Granny became greater than the Mana I was sending.
”More, more…”
When the voice of the telepathy reached me, the stagnation of Mana⁶ still inside my body began to be washed away. Unlike when Teressa-sama did it, each time it was flushed out, it was accompanied by pain that showed on my face.
”Endure that much,” Granny Ferris said.
She was as merciless as ever. However, once the stagnation vanished, the flow of Mana increased all at once. It was incomparable to Teressa-sama.
At that moment, the thoughts of the parasite flowed in. He was reacting quite strongly to the things Granny had said-that he (lacked spirit, lacked conviction, and was unreliable.)
Even more surprising was the strong desire that entered me: he wanted to perform an experimental treatment on Yutia. The words Dystonia and TMS also flowed in, but they shared no common concepts with my world, and I couldn’t understand the meaning at all. I only understood that it concerned Yutia’s treatment.
However, that was as far as it went. The volume of Mana from Granny increased suddenly and flooded into me. It was so overwhelming that I couldn’t breathe. It felt as if a violent torrent of Mana was washing through the very tissues of my body. Just as I was about to lose consciousness, the ritual ended.
”Ho, ho, ho. Well now, he endured quite well.”
”As I expected, he is upper-middle,” Daniel-san said.
”Is that so? Seeing his current state, I thought he might be a bit higher.”
”He’s not bad.”
Teressa-sama and the instructor listened to the conversation between the Elf and the Dwarf without moving a muscle. Just then, Nico and Alberto-san entered.
”I am sorry. I forgot that Alberto-san had gone to the Eisner house, so I am late,” Nico apologized as soon as she entered. Looking at the table, she immediately turned to leave, saying she would go brew some herb tea.
”If possible, ale would be better,” Bours-san said.
Everyone turned to look back at him with surprised faces, but the man himself didn’t seem to understand why. In the end, everyone except Teressa-sama, who was breastfeeding, ordered ale.
”Larry can use magic,” Bours-san said, tossing the topic to Alberto-san.
”I know.”
”Have you seen it?”
”Larry pushed Hans. There is no other explanation for that besides magic.”
(So that’s the way he was looking at me back then…) I had thought this for a while, but he wasn’t just a big man who boasted of his strength. Why was he hanging around with Hans-niisan?
”Ho, ho, ho. Larry, then, will you show us a Fireball?” Daniel-san requested.
In truth, I hadn’t cast a Fireball since Teressa-sama cleared my Mana channels. I wondered if I could make one slightly larger. I spread both hands and concentrated my mind. I could somehow tell; I felt like I could create something bigger than before.
As predicted, in the blink of an eye, Mana gathered like a mist, larger than a human head. As the one who made it, I was the most surprised. This was the first time I had gathered so much in such a large size. As I compressed the Mana further while continuing to gather it, the color changed from red to orange, and then to a bright yellow.
”Hot!”
The heat from the Fireball, which had shrunk to the size of a fist, was so intense that when I lost my concentration, it dispersed into mist.
”What is your assessment?” Granny asked the Dwarf, Daniel-san.
”Umu. It is as I thought. It looks like it could melt iron, but well, it’s upper-middle.”
”Um, what does upper-middle mean exactly?” I asked. It was a term I had heard from Granny before.
”Ho, ho, ho. You want to know? Simply put, if you only have Mana talent, you’ll stop at a magic school. Entering a Magic Academy⁷ is almost impossible.”
(Did almost mean there was a possibility?)
”Ho, ho, ho. Ferris, how do you see Larry’s talent?” Daniel-san asked.
”He resembles me; his affinity for the Synchronization-type⁸ is strong. Though the boy himself wishes for the Medical-type.”
”Ho, ho, ho. Do you think he can aim for the top with Synchronization-type?”
”I don’t know. It depends on the boy himself.”
”What is Synchronization-type?” I asked. It was a term I was hearing for the first time.
”It’s the branch of magic used to move Golems and such. Old woman, from your perspective, if Larry wants the Medical-type, can he use Heal?” Bours-san interjected.
”He cannot. Absolutely do not let him try. He hasn’t even mastered the very basics, so even with a small wound, he would only end up increasing the number of corpses.”
”I see…” Bours-san looked terribly disappointed. Even for a logistics soldier, being able to use Heal would be a boon for the army, but even without Granny telling me, I didn’t feel like I could lay a hand on it.
Just then, Nico and several servant girls entered. They placed an ale keg, mugs, a herb tea set, and salted cabbage on the table before everyone except Nico left.
”I will prepare it,” Nico said as she pulled the tap of the keg and poured ale into a mug.
”Ho, ho, ho. Teressa-san, does Klaus know about this?” Daniel-san asked with a grin as he received his mug of ale.
”I haven’t told him yet. I haven’t told him, but I was thinking of consulting him about Larry advancing to a magic school.”
”Ho. So you were considering a magic school,” Daniel-san said, foam from the ale sticking to his mustache as he looked at Granny.
”So, does Larry have the intention to go to a magic school?”
The question was suddenly thrown at me. However, Granny who asked must have known that both I and the parasite wanted to go to the Royal Capital via a magic school.
”Yes… yes.”
”How half-hearted.”
”Ah!”
Nico let out a cry as she poured too much ale, letting it overflow from the mug. It was an uncharacteristic mistake, and she seemed flustered. Teressa-sama hurried to hand her a cloth.
”I am terribly sorry.”
Granny glanced at Nico for a moment before returning her gaze to me.
”Hmph. Since Alberto, the new elder, is also here, I shall give you a brief lesson on magic.” Granny took her mug and drained the ale in one gulp. “First, magic is the various things one can do by manipulating Mana.”
She was starting right from the very basics. “Now, magic is broadly divided into two types: Simple-type and Complex-type.” Simple-type only handles Mana Dimers⁹, but Complex-type is a branch of magic that handles many polymers like Trimers and Tetramers. I had witnessed this during the Heal spell.
”Complex-type is divided into two: Biological-type and Material-type. The most famous Biological-type is the medical Heal. Among newer ones, there is also the Agricultural-type devised by the Fourth Sage, Count Sabaski.”
(Most likely, Complex-type is far superior to Simple-type, so the Medical-type included in Complex-type probably has a high difficulty level…)
”The most common Material-type is the Librarian-type, for training Magic Librarians. Their main job is creating documents that cannot be forged, such as registrations.”
The rules for these Magic Librarians were apparently the same not only in the Kingdom of Schuberitz but also in the Charleroi Empire, which we were at war with, the distant Turuk Empire, and even further east on the eastern side of the Central Continent.
”Differing from those, the Simple-type which only uses Dimer Mana is divided into Synchronization-type and Resonance-type. Synchronization-type refers to synchronizing with living organisms; Golem operation and Telepathy fall into this category. Resonance-type includes the use of Mana for mineral exploration and metallurgy, which that Dwarf over there is good at.”
Granny continued her explanation. To summarize briefly: Complex-type handles Mana polymers obtained from food or created internally.
Medical-type Heal has specialized schools in the Royal Capital.
Agricultural-type was devised by the Fourth Sage.
Material-type includes Librarian-type (registration docs) and Creation-type (magic items).
To supplement Mana polymers, people breed edible Magic Crickets and Red Magic Frogs.
Simple-type handles only Dimers.
Synchronization-type includes Puppet-type Golems and Telepathy.
Resonance-type (Dwarf specialty) includes Mineral Exploration and Metallurgy.
”Ho, ho, ho. Your tongue is moving well today.” Daniel-san teased Granny as he watched her gulp down a refilled mug after finishing her explanation. “Hmph. There is still more-the schools. There is one Magic Academy in the Royal Capital, and five magic schools across the country. Each has its own characteristics. The one here in the provincial capital, Besanburg, takes in a large number of Librarian-types, so it’s the kind of place that trains Magic Librarians, but it has a fair amount of Medical-type as well.”
(So the school in the provincial capital of Besanburg has a Medical-type too…)
”Also, to keep up appearances as a school, there are a few Synchronization-type and Resonance-type instructors, so one could say it’s a school where you can learn the bare minimum of each magic branch.”
(Appearances might be important…) To enroll, one reportedly needed to have a level 2 in any branch of magic, or a letter of recommendation from a mage. On top of that, there was an exam to test if one could read, write, and calculate to a certain extent. “There is no need to worry. If I write a letter of recommendation, there is no way you will fail.”
Granny said that, but I had a feeling she would demand something in return. “Is a magic school the same as a military academy?” Bours-san asked. I didn’t understand what he meant at first, but it seemed he wanted to know about tuition and living expenses. Military academies reportedly provide free tuition and dormitory fees, but include military service under the name of practical training. “Tuition for magic school is free, but I wonder about living expenses…”
”Dormitory fees are free, but I have heard that food expenses are separate.” Teressa-sama answered clearly for the vague old woman. She also mentioned that it was a boarding school.
”Ho, ho, ho. Then Klaus should be fine with it, since that fellow is stingy.”
A bright future was beginning to come into view. For me-whose only options were becoming the son-in-law of some independent farmer or becoming a soldier and eventually joining a pioneer group to own a house-a new future was appearing. “Can I have a moment?” The giant Alberto-san, who had been silent until then, raised his hand slightly. “It is all well and good for Larry to go to a magic school, but what happens to the Village Head position for this village?”
I felt as if I had forgotten something very important. When I looked around, no one would meet my eyes. Except for Nico.

Summary:
Larry undergoes a sponge bath led by Nico before attending an emergency council meeting. Teressa reveals that a pregnant subordinate of Klaus will be staying with them, sparking subtle family tension. The chapter concludes with Larry meeting the village elders and demonstrating his high mana capacity to Granny Ferris.
Larry demonstrates high magical potential, gathering a fireball larger than a human head, which Daniel-san classifies as upper-middle talent. Granny Ferris explains the complex classification of magic and encourages Larry to attend the magic school in Besanburg. The chapter ends with Alberto-san raising the critical issue of Larry’s responsibility as the next Village Head.
—
Trivia:
- Nico and Yutia are both from Teressa’s dowry household but have different legal statuses.
- Larry is sensitive about his ‘late bloomer’ status regarding puberty.
- Hans-niisan was mentioned as having washed Larry in the past, establishing sibling bonds.
- Dwarves and Elves in this village seem to have a professional rivalry regarding magic methodology.
- Magic categorization depends on the complexity of Mana (Dimer vs Polymer).
- Magic Librarians are vital for non-forgeable legal documents.
- Edible crickets and frogs are used as Mana supplements.
- The Dwarf nation is on a Southern Continent
—
Character Insight:
Larry’s internal reaction to Teressa’s pat reveals his deep affection and the ‘Happiness Points’ system he uses to track his emotional state. Nico’s reaction to Larry’s physical growth highlights the passage of time.
Nico’s flustered behavior suggests her feelings for Larry are becoming a distraction, while Alberto-san proves to be more observant than his ‘strength-only’ appearance suggests.
—
Lore And Worldbuilding Context:
The ‘Elders’ Council’ setting suggests a communal governance style despite the presence of a ‘Village Head’.
The author uses the ‘parasite’ thoughts to introduce modern medical concepts like Dystonia to contrast with the fantasy world’s ‘Heal’ magic.
—
Notes:
Magic is using Mana to do things.
There are two kinds of magic: Simple-type and Complex-type.
Simple-type uses only Mana Dimers.
A Dimer means 2 Mana joined together.
It is divided into:
* Synchronization-type: connects with living things (Telepathy, Golems)
* Resonance-type: works with minerals and metal (Mineral Exploration, Metallurgy)
Complex-type uses Mana polymers.
Polymers are bigger groups of Mana:
* Dimer = 2 Mana
* Trimer = 3 Mana
* Tetramer = 4 Mana
More Mana joined together means stronger magic.
Complex-type is divided into:
* Biological-type: works on living things
* Medical-type (Heal)
* Agricultural-type
* Material-type: works on objects
* Librarian-type (unforgeable documents)
* Creation-type (magic items)
Mana polymers come from food or are made inside the body.
People also eat Magic Crickets and Red Magic Frogs to help.
There is one Magic Academy and several magic schools.
The school in Besanburg focuses on Librarian-type and some Medical-type, and teaches a little of other types.
To enter a magic school, you need:
* Level 2 in any magic, or a recommendation
* Basic reading, writing, and math skills
Tuition and dormitory are free.
Food costs money.
Problem:
Larry can go to magic school, but then no one will be the Village Head.

Glossary:
Notes:
• Yutia – A hunched, muscularly abnormal servant girl with a severe speech impediment and lingering tension from a near‑fatal fever lives with Larry’s family. Though disabled, she is exceptionally dexterous and once served as lady’s maid to Teressa.
• Nico – An elderly manservant with silver hair and faded livery, dignified and trusted by the headman, revered by staff; a stern young maid from the Village Head’s house, outspoken and protective of Teressa and Yutia, wielding authority over children; also Teressa’s lady’s maid who scolds Larry and keeps order, blunt and rule‑bound; a younger sister‑in‑law‑type figure cold toward Larry yet diligent, formerly head servant now helping neighbors.
• Teressa – Larry’s eldest sister‑in‑law, widow of Iffens, serves as deputy village head and current Village Head. Mother of infant Lyrica, she has blonde short hair, a big‑chested, motherly aura, and wears a wool jacket over her blouse with a button almost split. Sharp, mischievous, and big‑sisterly.
• Larry – Thirteen-year-old third son of the Strock headman, with reddish-white skin, bronze eyes, and curly bronze hair, he harbors a parasitic 40-year-old salaryman consciousness—his internal “Obsessive Fan”—that grants faint Showa memories and minor fire magic. A pragmatic, protective backup heir, he grapples with existential dread, conscription, and unspoken crushes on his sister-in-law, all while performing menial chores despite his noble status. Having just discovered his significant magical potential, he navigates family duty, technological analysis, and the unsettling coexistence of two souls within one body.
• Hans – Rugged, wild‑eyed delinquent known as the ‘Mad Dog’ of Strock Village, he is the second son of the Fee family, a chronic alcoholic with a record of assault and extortion. Larry’s older brother and primary heir to the Kessler estate, he now shirks his duties.
• Tim – A 14‑year‑old village youth, the eldest son of the Dvorak family, has just ‘graduated’ into adulthood. With short dark hair, a lean build and thoughtful eyes, he recently traveled to the riverside town of Obernbach accompanied by his father.
• Iffens – Larry’s older brother, the eldest son of the Fee family, fell in battle; his death leaves a heavy emotional shadow over the household and fuels Yutia’s fear. He is remembered as a solemn, battle‑scarred figure.
• Klaus – Larry’s maternal uncle, head of the Thalbach family and a vassal to Viscount Bizan. He dislikes Larry and Hans. He is described as a thin, grumpy-looking man, wears a light grey cloak and a black hat with gold ornaments signifying his rank in a Viscount’s house.
• Grete – Uncle Klaus’s mistress. She is a small woman with high administrative abilities.
• Tommy – A coachman and servant to Uncle Klaus. He is the same age as Hans and has worked with horses since he was seven.
• Herta – Head maid of the household, a striking, voluptuous woman respected by staff, closely tied to the family, secretly involved with Egil, and treats Larry with familial affection.
• Alberto – Eldest Kessler son, towering over 210 cm, former delinquent turned newly appointed elder. He’s a massive red‑haired man who questions Larry’s future as Village Head and is engaged to Mary.
• Daniel – A white-haired dwarf blacksmith with thick mane who lives across from Granny Ferris. The village blacksmith, a Dwarf who advocates for physical grip in mana flow.
• Ferris – An ageless elf pharmacy owner, appearing in her 30s yet over 200 years old, is a veteran healer with deep magic and Elf‑style expertise. Known as Granny, she claims to have known Larry’s grandfather.
• Bours – Tall, scarred, in a faded uniform, he is a former Royal Army captain now village defense instructor. Stern, he trains youth with veteran archer precision, blending tactical Heal magic, orc‑hunting skill, and wilderness survival to forge disciplined defenders.
• Ed – A local village youth and acquaintance of Larry’s.
