Volume 2 Chapter 43 U-Control
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
I managed to return to my room at the Arsenal Bureau from the neighboring dormitory of the Magic Armor Division (formerly the 101st Golems Battalion) without a hitch.¹
That was what I had thought.
But.
When I noticed, Second Lieutenant Sabrina’s face was floating in the darkness, illuminated from below by the faint light of the Magic Lamps.
”Larry-san, where have you been?”
”Ah, well, just out for a walk.”
The Second Lieutenant’s expression did not change. She placed the Magic Lamps into a paper-shaded cylinder beside the entrance, causing the light to diffuse and brighten the entire room.
”Haaa.”
She sighed.
Does she know? That I had gone to the Magic Armor Division headquarters?
”This.”
She held out my bankbook.
”Your older brother used it at the VIP entrance of the Royal Capital.”
When did he steal that?
I suddenly understood why I had returned home so easily today.
That shitty brother of mine—you can’t let your guard down for even a second around him.
Apparently, because he still had the Village Head plate attached, the guards realized he was not the owner of the bankbook and caught him for being suspicious. The guards could not have the Arsenal Bureau, where I am, accept custody of my brother, so they called Ariane-neesan, gave her a strict warning, and handed him over. It seems that Second Lieutenant Sabrina had received the bankbook from a guard she was acquainted with upon her return from Strock Village.
Wait a minute, the sun was still high when my brother left.
Could it be that she had been waiting here for quite a long time?
”Thank you very much.”
I accepted the bankbook and offered my thanks.
”Also, there was a message from the Sage, and he said to take you to the village of the Old Master.”
”Huh.”
I get the feeling that nothing good ever happens when I get involved with that old man.
”Is ‘Sage’ equivalent to someone high up in the Arsenal Bureau or something?”
He founded the Navy, named the Inspector General of the Third Division “Itami,” and is certainly involved in the guidelines of the military, but I tried asking what kind of position he held for the Arsenal Bureau.
”He is the head of the technical department of the General Staff, so he is a person above the Bureau Chief.”
”Does such a high-ranking person give instructions for my actions?”
”That is, I suppose, because he considers Larry-san to be his successor.”
How selfish. Even though he had been trying to make me work in the mine for two years.
”Besides, if you were to try and do something like a ‘Night-visit’ at the Old Master’s village, you would meet with a painful experience, so it is also convenient for us.”
She knows where I was and what I was doing until earlier.
I have no choice but to smile wryly, but there are also things that bother me.
”Are there exchanges between the people of the Arsenal Bureau and the Old Master’s village?”
”Yes. Not everyone, but when one becomes a commissioned officer, they perform military textbook training at the Old Master’s village.”
Huh, is that so. I don’t know the reason, though.
”With the establishment of the Navy this time, the Arsenal Bureau has also grown, and four new commissioned officers have been added, so they are doing intensive training for the rest of this month, so Larry-san should be whipped into shape there as well. That is the situation.”
What do you mean “that is the situation”?
”Haaa, but I am military personnel, and I have Corporal status, right?”
It is not as if it is disrespectful for someone like me, who looks like a greenhorn, to train with high-ranking people, is it?
I don’t want to go to a place where I am out of place.
”Larry-san is well-versed in confidential matters of the commissioned officer class, and I hear that you also have a special relationship with the Second Lieutenant, so there is no problem, is there?”
The “is there?” at the end was very emphasized. If the other party were the Fourth Sage old man, I could complain endlessly, but with Second Lieutenant Sabrina, I could not say anything.
I had no choice but to nod.
The next morning, I was taken by Second Lieutenant Sabrina and departed from the Arsenal Bureau by carriage.
After traveling for about two hours and crossing a river, the vegetation changed. What had been a beech forest until now became a pine forest.
The Second Lieutenant said that about two hundred years ago it was a beech forest, but most of it was logged for the construction of the Royal Capital, spruce that is easy to use as lumber was planted, and due to several fires, now red pine is planted.
”It is said that Goblins and Orcs do not come to the red pine forest.”
Is that so? I wonder if they dislike the smell of pine resin. By the way, the area around Strock Village is almost entirely natural beech forest.
Then, a quarter of an hour later, I passed under a large torii (shrine gate).
It is not painted vermilion, but it has a somewhat out-of-place atmosphere. After passing through the torii, the trees became sparse, and large hangar-like buildings and apartment-like structures stood in rows.
The carriage stopped in front of the one-story office building before them.
”If there is anything you need, there is a delivery every two days, so if you give me a letter, I will deliver it four days later.”
”Thank you very much.”
When I got off the carriage, voices shouting “Ei!” “Toh!” could be heard from inside the hangar, and my attention was stolen by that.
Is it a dojo, not a hangar?
Somehow, I don’t like it.
I remember a classmate from my first year who had joined a martial arts club complaining that he didn’t want to go to a training camp.
I think I am in the state of mind where I want to scream “I don’t want to!” similar to that.
From there, a foreigner wearing a samue (traditional work clothing) came out of the one-story building.
Thoroughly Germanic type: slightly reddish skin, golden downy hair, bronze curly hair.
He looks just like my deceased father from this side.
”Long time no see, Instructor Sergei.”
To my surprise, when the Second Lieutenant joined her hands together to the man she called “Instructor,” the other party also returned the gesture with palms together.
Hands together, happiness?
Is this exactly Shaolin Temple?
But, however, isn’t a torii strange? Is it Shinbutsu-shugo (syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism)?
”Second Lieutenant Sabrina, long time no see. Well, I have become an instructor, though.”
It seems the two are old acquaintances.
Ah, what kind of harsh life is waiting for me from now on.
”Ho, so he is Larry-kun. There was a letter from Sage-sama directly asking me to train you.”
That geezer.
Second Lieutenant Sabrina talked about old times with Instructor Sergei for a while, then went home.
”Full-scale training starts tomorrow, for now, I will guide you to your room.”
I entered what looked like a two-story tenement house next to the one-story office.
It is a room on the first floor, a double room. The person in the same room is apparently a man who was recently promoted to Second Lieutenant.
”Wake-up is at 5:00 AM, the same as the military academy. Likewise, arrange your bedding and have roll call. After that, have them do cleaning and toilet waste collection, and from 6:00, a fast walk. From 7:00, I am preparing ingredients, so have them make it, and finish cleaning up by 8:30. It is okay, the others have been coming since the day before yesterday and are already used to it.”
What is this, bullying?
I don’t think even the Self-Defense Forces do that much.
”From 8:30 to 10:00, drill. You heard it just now, kenpo (fist technique) is the main thing, so time passes quickly. When it ends, it is classroom study until noon. There is an exam at the end, so it will be tough if you fail.”
He did not tell me how it would be tough.
After lunch, it is individual research time.
When one becomes a Second Lieutenant of the Arsenal Bureau, it seems they have their own research topics. The person on duty makes dinner from 6:00.
”There are people who are absorbed in research until the middle of the night, but wake-up is early, so go to bed early. There is also a roommate, so don’t disturb them.”
I don’t really like living with others.
I would still feel more at ease with Hans-niisan, who is violent and a ruffian.
I left my luggage in the room where there was already a resident, and was led outside.
”It is a rare piece of land for around here that spreads to the southeast.”
After leaving the dormitory and passing through the rough forest, I came out to a wide farmland.
Now that it is mentioned, it is sloping from the west (right) to the east (left) like Strock Village, but a gentle slope of farmland spreading toward the southeast, incomparable to that, is spreading out. The private houses and warehouses, etc., are standing in a row as if looking down at that farmland toward the south.
A village without being surrounded by castle walls is indeed a village.
There is something else that feels strange, more than that.
”This is also an experimental farm created by the Fourth Sage.”
In the field in front of my eyes, wheat is growing to the point of putting out ears, and on this slope with a steep incline, there is some other field, but.
I realized when it was pointed out, there are steps in the farmland.
It is just like a rice field.
I have never seen such farmland around here.
If I were to speak in terms of the previous life, there is a lot of mosaic-like farmland like Biei-cho in Hokkaido.
Moreover, in the back to the right, something like an embankment of a reservoir can be seen, and on the north side of that, bamboo?
Yes, it resembles a Japanese farming village.
”By any chance, is it a rice field?”
I asked while pointing at the horizontal farmland with steps.
”As expected of a Sage candidate, that is correct, we are trying to grow rice, but it does not go well easily.”
It seems ten years have passed since he kept the well-ripened husks and started planting, but it is said that once every few years, there is a year where almost no harvest is possible. As for Instructor Sergei, compared to the harvest of wheat, which is four times the sown husk, rice is seven to eight times, so it seems he is working hard in hopes of creating a variety that can somehow take root in this land.
It would be good if there were also soybeans, sweet potatoes, etc.
Only for soybeans, it seems there is a prospect.
”Did the Sugar beet business come from here?”
”That is the Agricultural University. It is on the north side of the Royal Capital.”
Is that so.
However, how on earth were they able to bring soybeans, rice, and bamboo here?
This is probably around Germany in the original world; the climate classification is different, there is little rain, and the temperature is low. Rice is impossible, right?
Since the Fourth Sage said he was a former social studies teacher, he should know that area well.
After that, I greeted the seniors here who were doing classroom study.
On the first floor of the dormitory, there was an individual work room separate from the bedroom, and a room for me had also been prepared.
”Well, you can do as you like after this; the Dining Hall is on the same first floor. Bread and soup are available at noon. Dinner is at sunset. Eventually, you will be on duty, so it might be good to take a look in advance.”
Listening to the story, it seems that the only thing that looks difficult is the morning.
When I asked if there was magic thread or Amber, I was told to order it, so I went to the office together and filled out an order form.
After that, I immediately went to the bamboo grove.
In my mind, I only had the thought of making a Magic Magnet out of bamboo.
If iron also arranges atoms so that the electron spins point in the same direction, it becomes a permanent magnet.
If I make Mana the same way, if I correct it during growth, I hypothesized that it would become a permanent magic magnet (wood).
The experiment with the branch of an apple tree that had newly grown in Strock Village was thwarted halfway.
But bamboo grows faster than apple trees.
I might be able to do this.
If a permanent magic magnet (wood) can be made, that and this, my dreams expand.
About three hundred meters up from the dormitory, when I went up the road beside the embankment of the reservoir, there was a well-maintained bamboo grove.
Perhaps to harvest bamboo shoots, the distance between the bamboos was sufficiently open, and in fact, the villagers were harvesting bamboo shoots with tools like pickaxes.
”Um, I’d like to experiment a bit, so may I have this?” I say, pointing to a bamboo shoot poking about fifty centimeters out of the ground.
”That thing is already too hard to eat, lad,” the villager grunts.
”Yes, I intend to use it to make a tool.”
Saying that, I take a magic vibe² out of the wooden box and dismantle it. I extract the magic thread³ from the motor, wrap it around the bamboo shoot, and use Amber’s navel to perform Mana Control⁴.
The villagers seemed less surprised by my actions and more by the dismantled phallus—the p**is shape. Perhaps I looked creepy enough to them that the three villagers who were there went home early, but I am not impatient. By now, I have gotten used to being called a pervert or a sadist. While flowing Mana, I think about what to do once the permanent magic magnet⁵ (wood) is created.
Naturally, I will build a motor. Not a switched reluctance motor for a vibe, but a small motor with little vibration. What I will make with it is decided: an airplane. A Mana motor does not use metal, so it is light; Amber is also not quite as heavy as a battery. It is the perfect motor for flying. If I remotely operate it like a Golems⁶, I can also see the ground from the sky as if I were flying myself. I am excited. And if I can make a strong permanent magic magnet (wood) with this bamboo, that is a goal I will reach in one go.
What about the airframe? If there is bamboo, I should just make it with bamboo splints. When I was a kid in my previous life, I used to play by flying rubber-powered airplanes made of bamboo splints. The problem is the propeller, but in this place, I can do it the same way as a bamboo dragonfly. If I try, I can do it!
That is what I thought. But things do not go that easily.
First, the morning. In a bed where sheets are laid over straw, I must smooth out the wrinkles and fold the blankets as specified before roll call. Therefore, I must wake up earlier than five o’clock. There is an inspection, and if it is not done properly, I receive a childish corporal punishment of being hit on the buttocks with a bamboo whip. My appearance is young, but my roommate, the Second Lieutenant, is in his mid-thirties, and it is unbearable to watch a man close to being a middle-aged guy get down on all fours and be whipped on the buttocks for oversleeping.
The early morning run after that was also abnormal. We run around the village three times. This is shorter than the distance to the Seiren Village checkpoint in the Militia training, but the speed is different. Sometimes the Master leads, and sometimes the Assistant Master does, but if it is the Master, it is hell. He is as fast as a horse.
However, the Assistant Master is a troublesome person in his own way. There is a shrine on a small hill behind the bamboo forest. There are about fifty steps from the road to the shrine, but if even one person is late, we are all made to sprint up them. With legs full of lactic acid from running, we are made to do things like stair sprints, just like a high school club activity.
There is one woman among the new Second Lieutenants of the Arsenal Bureau. The other three are men, but the thirty-year-old guy who is my roommate and the woman, first of all, cannot keep up with the speed of the Assistant Master, who is slower than the Master.
If two people are late, two sprints await. Because our physical strength drops from the sprints, usually three people are late on the next lap, and finally, all five of us, including me, are late. Even though our physical strength is completely drained, we have to do five sprints at the end. What is this place? It is like a high school club activity.
For the first three days, breakfast would not go down my throat. Especially on the first day and the next, I threw up.
And the morning training. This is unfortunately done together with the men of the village, including the kids. One hundred push-ups, one hundred sit-ups, one hundred front kicks alternating left and right, one hundred punches left and right, one hundred Kumite (Sparring)—everything is in units of one hundred, and if you cannot do it, a bamboo whip flies mercilessly. After that, there is even randori.
The kids here who have been doing it since they were little are reasonably strong. I hate losing even if I fight fair and square, so when I try to win against the kids by using the difference in height and arm length, well, naturally I win. I am called names like “sneaky” or “cheap,” but it is better than losing.
When I leave the dojo, a classroom session begins where I must fight against the sleepiness that attacks me. At the end of the classroom session, there is a question from the lecturer. If I cannot answer, a bamboo whip.
By the way, the thirty-something guy who is my roommate is named Paul Arent, and he is told to acquire shipbuilding technology. The other two men are Eckhart Zerne and Lars Rohm, both of whom are material researchers. The woman is Margit Sonar, and she said she is in charge of ball bearings. These four are people who should be called researchers rather than soldiers, and they are always complaining about the training and the early morning runs.
At first, because I lost all my physical strength and could not do anything during research time, I only went to the bamboo forest and flowed Mana into the bamboo shoots. When I went on the third day, a bamboo shoot that was not even fifty centimeters tall had shed its skin and was over one meter fifty, trying to turn from a bamboo shoot into bamboo. I used Mana Control on that guy. Then there was a cracking sound, the tip split, and the crack widened with a crisp sound, splitting into six pieces all the way to the root.
When I pulled it, it came out easily, and the power as a magic magnet (bamboo) was, as hypothesized, a strong and happy result.
Even the training, which could be taken as bullying, was something my mid-teen body grew somewhat accustomed to after a week, and I was able to proceed with the work, but various obstacles stood in my way. The rotation of the motor’s drive part is fast, and the magic magnet with the coil wound around it breaks due to centrifugal force. Furthermore, the drum knocks off the brushes, and the propeller cannot be fixed because it rotates too fast—there were many problems.
The day before the final day, the Golems conversion was not in time, but I managed to make a test flight.
The only thing I can control is the auxiliary wing for elevation attached to the main wing; I attach a string to it and operate it from about ten meters away. In other words, I am just flying it around a circle with a radius of ten meters.
I also attached a rudder to the vertical tail, but it is fixed because it is unnecessary this time.
When I am preparing to fly it in the plaza in front of the dojo, because they say the pervert is doing something, not only the kids of the village but also the adults gather. I draw a line on the ground and tell them not to come any closer, keeping the onlookers away.
When I connect Amber, the bamboo propeller turns with a small whirring sound, and the wheels that were just tacked on start to rotate and move forward.
I quickly move away.
It is faster than I thought. When I operate the string and lower the auxiliary wing, it suddenly ascends.
A shout goes up from the onlookers. But I made it ascend too much; when I raise the auxiliary wing, this time it suddenly dives. When it turns to ascend just before falling to the ground, I hear a strange “Whoa” sound. After about ten minutes of making it circle, I become able to fly it stably, and when the Mana of Amber decreases and the altitude lowers, applause erupts when I land it on the ground.
I feel somehow embarrassed.
The kids come crowding in, saying “Show me! Show me!”, but I do not know what they will do to it, so I lift the airplane with both hands and run into the Dining Hall of the dormitory.
”Larry-kun, it has been a long time,” an ominous voice says.
I turn around to see the Fourth Sage, Count Sabaski, and the Director of the Arsenal Bureau, Captain Aslan Gar, standing there.
”U-Control, huh? You made something nostalgic, boy.”
”U-Control?”
”Yes, that model airplane you are holding that you fly by wire.”
Is that what you call it? I only know about radio control.
”The fact that you do not know means you were trying to make it radio-controlled?”
”Yes, well, it is Golems conversion, though.”
”That is good, that.”
It is not good; I only have a bad feeling. The Fourth Sage nods while meeting the gaze of the Director.
”You, just stay here until the Golems conversion of that is finished.”
I want to say goodbye to the early morning runs and the training. I am at my limit.
”I will go ahead and talk to the academy for you.”
Director, do not do unnecessary things!
”You, is there anything you want? If you are going to do the Golems conversion, how about a goblin nerve kit or something?”
”No, a goblin is too big, so a magic mouse’s…”
I said a stupid thing. This makes it look like I have agreed to stay here, does it not?
”I see. Does Aslan Director’s place—the Arsenal Bureau—have that?”
”No, I think it is only at the Magic Academy or the university. That is perfect; I will go there in person.”
”In that case, how about going back to the Arsenal Bureau and making it? I think it would be better because it saves trouble.”
Other Arsenal Bureau people will graduate tomorrow, but I do not want to be the only one left behind for training. At least I want to go back to the Royal Capital and live a normal life.
”That is impossible. If a model airplane were flying over the Arsenal Bureau, foreigners would be surprised, would they not? Then you would be targeted for your life again.”
So that was it.
”Well, that is how it is, so please take care of it.”
Without a pause, the Sage says that, pats me on the shoulder, and leaves with the Director.
”Why do I have to continue the training camp alone, you idiot?”
And so, it was a month later that I was able to leave this village. I thought the Golems conversion would be easy, but I let my guard down. There were many times when I crashed it and had to rebuild the motor from scratch. Perhaps feeling sorry for me, from the third week, they assigned Second Lieutenant Sabrina as an assistant, and she helped me with things like winding the magic thread, but poor thing, she was also made to join in the early morning runs and training every morning.
And the, I do not know, umpteenth time is the charm.
”I am betting my lunch for today that it will crash,” a kid shouts.
”No, if you do that, the bet will not be valid,” I reply.
The onlookers are almost all just kids, and what is more, they are talking about bets, assuming it will crash.
But, however. The airplane continued to fly in the sunset sky. With this, I am finally graduating. The magic mouse has poor eyesight, and the scenery does not look good, but even so, I looked down at the Old Master’s village from the sky, saw the Horn Mountains in the far distance that looked hazy when I looked south, and saw the Royal Capital faintly in the distance when I turned my eyes north.
I returned to the Royal Capital for the first time in about a month and a half. And, I went straight to the Magic Academy. Led by Second Lieutenant Sabrina, I came to the central school building of the Magic Academy, one of the large building complexes near the royal castle. There was no space to park many carriages like the Magic School in Byzantium, and the military carriage left quickly with Second Lieutenant Sabrina after letting me off.
I went to the office next to the entrance, and when I explained the situation, a Dorm Head named Henrietta de Junker came. The name is the same as the student Henrietta-san, but the contents were completely different. She was a die-hard believer of the Universal Church.
”When I first came, the sexual life of the students was chaotic, but please be assured, there is no such thing anymore,” she says.
A thin, nervous-looking woman, as soon as her self-introduction ended, said that first thing. Personally, I would not mind at all if it were chaotic.
Here, men and women are strictly forbidden from entering each other’s dorms. Even if they are parent and child, men and women are not allowed to enter the same room. Overnight stays outside, except for long holidays, are in principle prohibited unless a relative comes to pick them up. It is a big difference from the Magic School where I lived in the same room as Marie and Nico.
Meals may be eaten in the Dining Hall⁷ with both men and women together, but at night, it is only until nine o’clock.
This applies not only to students, but also to trainees, staff, and professors.
There is a communal bath, and on odd-numbered days it is for men, and on even-numbered days it is for women.
The men’s dormitory is on the first floor of the staff dormitory.
Currently, there are four male students enrolled, including me.
After placing my luggage in the room, I went to the sewing room to have my uniform made, and after being measured, I headed to the laboratory of Henrietta-san on the fourth floor of the same building.
Apparently, it is the floor where the laboratory of Professor Pauman, whom she respects immensely, is located.
I thanked her and parted ways with the Dorm Head, Henrietta-san.
For the first time in a while, I am meeting the perverted Henrietta-san.
(I have been living an abstinent life for the past month and a half, so I wonder if I could get her to help me relieve myself a little.)
Holding such expectations, I climb the stairs.
Her room was at the far left end of the hallway after going up the stairs.
The laboratory of Henrietta-san at the Magic Academy was different from the cheap construction of the Magic School, starting with the door.
It used a large, thick board with a sense of weight, a golden knob, and the keyhole was an elaborate, new type shaped like the character for “ku.”
The primary purpose for coming to the academy is for my protection, but I suspect that upper management is desiring further research results.
New technologies that I am considering. They might be hoping that this will not leak to the outside, and also that it will influence the chosen students who are promised a future.
I cannot bear that much expectation, but this is the place where the kingdom’s young genius mages gather.
It is certain that it will be easier to work here in many aspects, including materials and information. The magical rat nerve kit used for the Golem-ization of the airplane was not at the Arsenal Bureau, and this is where it was in stock.
Now, Henrietta-san and Marie should have come ahead of me, beyond this door.
Has it been two months? My face feels a little stiff.
When I knocked on that door, I heard a voice I had heard somewhere before saying, “Yeees.”
I placed my hand on the doorknob and pushed it in.
The first thing that jumped into my eyes was a workbench in the center of the room, and beyond that was an office desk where Henrietta-san was writing something, but a woman who definitely should not be here was resting her chin on her hand on the workbench and looking at me.
”Isn’t that Larry? You’ve finally come,” the woman said, raising one hand while still resting her chin on her hand.
Is that intended as a greeting?
”Romy, why are you here?”

Summary:
Larry is unexpectedly confined to a training facility at the Old Master’s village by order of the Sage, under the guise of an intensive military course. He navigates a rigorous, almost monastic schedule and discovers the village contains an experimental agricultural site modeled after Japanese-style rice cultivation. The chapter concludes with Larry exploring a bamboo grove, harboring hopes of developing a ‘permanent magic magnet’ from bamboo to advance his technological projects.
Larry experiments with bamboo and mana to construct a motor for a model aircraft. He endures a grueling training camp while struggling with mechanical failures. After a successful flight test, he is forced to stay behind to finalize his Golems conversion project, eventually graduating and returning to the Magic Academy. The new environment proves to be far more socially restrictive.
Larry settles into the dormitory and proceeds to visit Henrietta-san’s laboratory to continue his research. Upon entering the high-security room, he encounters Henrietta and, shockingly, Romy. The scene ends on the tension of Romy’s unexpected presence.

• Marie – Novakova, a bold, headstrong 15-year-old noblewoman from the protagonist’s village, is a skilled Bizan Magic School student, researcher, and mana tech assistant. Comically resembling Nico with a floral hairpiece, Isabella’s niece and the Barsheni elder’s granddaughter is currently pregnant, expecting the protagonist to act as a father figure while raising a child with her boyfriend Larry.
• Nico – A petite, silver-haired General and Bizan Magic School student, Teressa’s cousin, and a Village Head Fee member with zero Mana and cold extremities. The anxious, blunt fabric merchant’s daughter plans to inherit the family business, despite an Amazoness clerk’s pursuit. She works as a domestic assistant and school laundry worker, planning to stay in her dorm until spring break to return home. Early-rising and practical, she relies on her confidante Marie and fears shopping district threats. She shares an intense, bed-sharing romantic bond with her savior, Larry, and is currently pregnant and increasingly anxious following his recent trial.
• Pauman – An Academy professor and magic ship researcher who forces subordinates and students into a rigid mold. Known for a harsh, dismissive attitude toward those straying from traditional academic paths, they also harbor a deep dislike for the military.
• Romy – A flamboyant, blunt 16-year-old Magic School freshman and “troubled child” from the ‘von’ Odonkor family. Heavily made up yet cute in her strapless mermaid dress, she is a casual researcher and Henrietta’s messy lab assistant who struggles with low Mana and technical concepts. She funds herself via blueprints, dislikes the professor, and has complex, teasing relationships with Larry and the protagonist.
