Volume 4 Chapter 64 Original Species
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Thanks to the Androgynos Group’s cheat-tier ability, it looked like I could get back to Schweilitz.
But then again.
At first I was happy about it, but the more I thought about it, the more problems I realized.
First off, there was a pretty high chance I’d caught syphilis.
I’d engaged in some pretty intense oral s*x with Kamea, the Amazoness infection candidate. Mucosal damage was unavoidable on both sides, and if she was infected, odds were good I was too.
So even if I went back to the country, I couldn’t have s*x with any Women.
Women didn’t even know what syphilis was. Plus, I hadn’t been back to Strock Village in over two years. What would happen if I suddenly showed up?
I probably wasn’t officially declared dead or anything, but I’d been gone way too long. I couldn’t imagine anything but a terrifying outcome.
As for the estate I’d inherited from the Fourth Sage in the Royal Capital, Marie was there, so she should understand the circumstances of my boarding the Izumo. There probably wouldn’t be any confusion.
Though getting punched at least once by each of them was inevitable. I’d brace myself.
But the biggest problem was the Kingdom Office.
What if I got back, got arrested, and got an immediate death sentence?
That could happen.
I never carried out the assassination of Rosa that the military had ordered through the ship. I mean, come on—I couldn’t kill my own former student, even if she was just a former student.
Originally, my orders were just to confirm the body, so it wasn’t technically a violation of orders. That’s what I’d thought when I left Tete, but now I remembered—I’d been made acting captain.
And what if I’d been reported as having sold the captain and chief engineer to the Amazoness as prisoners? I mean, that’s basically what happened, but maybe I’d gone too far.
Uh-oh. A lot of things were coming back to me.
Could this earn me a death sentence for violating military regulations?
Would being Princess Tina’s fiancé help me out at all?
No, our engagement wasn’t public. It wouldn’t be strange if it was canceled at any time. Those people were exactly the type to do that.
This might actually be really bad.
Hmm.
The more I thought about it, the worse the outcomes looked.
Not like they’d consider my accomplishments or anything.
Right—I was carrying official correspondence from the Land of the Fire Ring through the Transfer Gate this time. So they probably wouldn’t arrest me on the spot for a death sentence or detain me. Probably.
In the meantime, I could read the situation and maybe defect to the Amazoness country or something. If I went missing, at least my family wouldn’t face repercussions.
”Oi, pay attention. If you don’t expose the glans, I can’t heal it, you phimosis-having idiot,” Pamela scolded me while I was lost in thought.
What I was currently doing—testing whether athlete’s foot treatment could be applied to syphilis.
In Schweilitz, there were quite a few patients visiting street Medical Mages for athlete’s foot treatment. High-level medical treatments that required substantial large-body mana—like internal organ work or bone setting—needed a proper Mage, but anyone could easily get treatment for athlete’s foot.
Even if syphilis spirochetes had infected my d**k through that irrumatio1 with Kamea, most of it would still be on the epidermis. Even if a tiny amount had entered the bloodstream or lymphatic system, the immunity of this young body might handle the internal spread.
So when I’d consulted Pamela about whether we could try the same treatment as for athlete’s foot, she said she couldn’t treat the whole thing, but she’d give it a shot on just the glans.
”I need to save some of your large-body mana too, Pamela,” I said.
When I said that, the Elf Mage replied that her love juice and precum contained plenty of large-body mana, so there was no need. Apparently, thanks to that, Elves had far fewer cases not just of genital ringworm but also urethritis and cystitis compared to humans.
Though that was only relevant for Elf Mages—it didn’t mean they didn’t need treatment for syphilis specifically.
”Come on, peel it back properly. And it’s tiny to boot,” she said.
Harsh!
”It’s not tiny! Don’t compare me to those Androgynos freaks!” I shot back.
Anyway.
It was cold. My lower half was exposed, legs spread in an M-position2, pseudo-phimosis foreskin peeled back to reveal the glans, with the Loli Elf Mage hovering her hand over it, sprinkling white smoke-like mana over it.
This was humiliating.
* * *
The next morning, when I went to the Dining Hall as usual, the fussy Senate member with a middle-aged man in an old-lady body was eating with Rao.
”Morning. Any lumps on your d**k yet?” Rao asked.
Rao —that’s your morning greeting?
”No pain, and it looks fine visually too,” I replied.
I’d had Pamela check, just in case, but she said symptoms wouldn’t show until a month after infection. This was a crisis for the entire Androgynos Group—that joke was in poor taste.
”Before you eat, take a look at these,” said Mr. Rocani—that was his name, I think. Old woman face, but male speech. He placed four small pouches on the table.
”What are these?” I asked.
When I asked, he just gestured for me to look.
I opened the first pouch and poured the contents into my hand—reddish-brown grains. Looking closely, they were shaped like corn kernels.
”What’s this?” I asked.
”Corn seeds. Not sweet corn—close to the original species. The kind eaten around Central America,” he replied.
I see.
So he’d brought souvenirs from Schweilitz.
I opened the next pouch—dried red pepper-like things inside.
”So this is chili pepper,” I said.
”Yeah. There are several varieties, but I only have two,” he said.
The elder handed me another pouch from the table. Inside were the familiar talon-shaped dried peppers I remembered from my past life.
”What about this?” I asked.
The last pouch contained only light brown seeds.
”Tomatoes. These are seeds from my Colony that we finally managed to harvest. They should grow in Schweilitz too, at least in the warmer southern regions,” he explained.
So they’d been bred to grow in this land. But I didn’t recall requesting tomatoes.
”Rubber didn’t work out,” he added.
Maybe the tomatoes were a replacement since they couldn’t get rubber?
”Are all of these grown here?” I asked.
”Yes, every one from my Colony,” he confirmed.
According to him, the colony head two generations ago had brought back seeds from Central America. After planting and growing them, these and pumpkins were all that survived. He said that since the Syphilis Calamity, all Transfer Gates on the North and South American continents—except North America—had been closed, making it hard now to source these edible plants originally from Central and South America.
”Potatoes? The Fourth Sage brought those back, and now they’re grown all over the country,” I said.
”Those were wiped out by disease in the previous generation. With small planting volumes, an epidemic leaves you helpless. If you take these back to Schweilitz and plant them in large quantities, even if disease hits, some will survive,” he replied.
That made sense, I guess.
Maybe this man wanted to entrust us with the seeds he’d preserved through generations. That was the feeling I got.
According to him, the Androgynos Group didn’t care for the crops they’d grown—they were too close to the original species for their taste. Only pumpkins, which grew even if left alone in the warmer northern lands, were used for food for the hiyu3—Androgynos who’d reincarnated from non-human souls.
To think they’d preserved and cultivated plants that couldn’t even be eaten properly across generations. This elder seemed like a man who’d known hardship.
”Today, I’m meeting an agent at the Transfer Gate in the Horn Mountains of the Kingdom of Schweilitz to negotiate the parchment deal. I’ll discuss bringing in a Medical Mage then. We’ll meet here again tonight,” he said.
With that, the middle-aged-man-in-an-old-lady’s-body left.
Well, I had nothing better to do anyway. Even if I attended the meetings, there was hardly anything left for me to say.
At first, they’d said it would take three months, but I’d been thinking a week would be enough—and then in the afternoon meeting, some weirdos burst in.
”Excuse me—how does that steamship work?” the central Androgynos Group member asked, flanked by two Dwarf men. They must have seen the Izumo arrive at the trading city Takere on the isthmus.
”Is propulsion by screw? Does the steam engine turn the screw?” she pressed.
They were all up in my face before I even answered. Young—just looking at the face, she was a beauty. Decent-sized chest too. Having some stranger’s face that close made me want to blush, but from what she was saying, I figured the beauty’s inside was male.
”Uh, I might have syphilis,” I said.
When I said that, the Androgynos Group member, close enough for our lips to almost touch, stared at my face for a moment—then backed all the way to the corner of the room.
”What do you think you’re doing, you lot? You’re interrupting the meeting—get out!” Professor Lilit yelled, her meeting disrupted.
The intruders slunk out. I was surprised they retreated so easily—but then they showed up again as I was leaving.
”Pardon our intrusion earlier. Might we have a word about that steam-powered ship?” she asked, having apparently cooled down.
”I don’t mind, but I have a meeting with that elder guy tonight,” I replied.
They asked if we could talk while walking to the inn. I’d wanted to take a terror bird taxi, but since the snow was gone, walking would only take ten or fifteen minutes, so I agreed.
He—the Androgynos Group member—said his name was Cisco・Cliff・Blue VI. He apparently made metal tools with Dwarves here, and since he liked talking, he launched into a long explanation about himself.
”Right now, I’m working on a device to pump water out of mines,” he said.
He said the Land of the Fire Ring had been selling mining rights to earn foreign currency, attracting quite a few Dwarves. I’d heard this before.
But apparently, while there were decent open-pit coal mines, other mining—precious metals and iron—required digging tunnels. Naturally, cave-ins happened frequently, which led to deaths.
”The majority of the deaths are among the hiyu,” he said.
”When you say hiyu, those are the Androgynos Group who reincarnated from non-human souls, right?” I asked.
”Yes. By definition, they’re not human—but they look human. Young-looking too. Maybe you could say it’s inevitable that they do dangerous work, but when you see the bodies… it’s hard to just accept that. Even if their souls are non-human—puppies or kittens,” he trailed off.
This was like something straight out of pre-Industrial Revolution England.
”Hmm. You burn coal or asphalt to turn water into steam for power, and it turns a turbine. You want rotational speed more than raw power. That’s the kind of propulsion we use on the Izumo,” I explained.
The young Androgynos Group member seemed to understand. He walked behind me in silence.
The street rose from the lakeshore toward the station and inn area.
”Um—could we tour the ship sometime?” he asked.
I said I didn’t mind, but they should clear it with the elders here first just in case.
”Well, you’re meeting Mr. Rocani now, aren’t you?” he said.
Yeah, I was.
This Androgynos was probably telling the Dwarves what I’d just said. They looked thrilled.
But when I got back to the inn and asked the elder—permission denied.
Why? Because I was heading back to Schweilitz now.
What?
Apparently, Mr. Rocani had spoken to the agent on the other side. Greasing the wheels at the Kingdom Office would take six months. The Androgynos Group couldn’t afford that kind of leisurely timeline. The agent was waiting at the Transfer Gate—the only option was to bring me over as quickly as possible and head straight for the Royal Capital.
”Pamela?” I asked.
”She stays here,” he replied.
Holding her hostage, huh.
Well, on the other side, there was a chance I might get executed without warning. I’d go alone.
Also, wandering around in the sailor suit I was wearing was a bad idea—too conspicuous.
I went back to my room to get a Mage’s robe. Pamela was waiting. I explained the situation.
”I see. Don’t die,” she said.
Ugh, it’s a bad omen. Still, I gave her a light hug.
”I’ll come back as soon as I can,” I said.
”That’s a promise,” she murmured.
Her voice was muffled against my chest. When I tried to pull away, she held on.
”When you come back—summon Ms. Henrietta,” she said.
When she brought up her original master’s name, Pamela—who usually showed so little emotion—shuddered.
”Will you be back in three days?” she asked without looking up.
But the Transfer Gate was somewhere in the Horn Mountains. Just going to the Royal Capital and back would take ten days to two weeks. With negotiations on that side, a month was possible.
”You’re going to make me wait here alone that long?” she said.
”Sorry,” was all I could say.
”You idiot!” she cried.
Pamela finally looked at me, tears streaming from her eyes. All I could do was pat her head and silently leave the room.
Robes tucked under my arm, I headed with the elder to the Hub Tower.
”Once I deliver you, I’m coming straight back. Understood?” he said.
So on the other side, I’d be traveling with just the agent. Hope they were decent.
”The Transfer Gate can only be opened from the Hub Tower. Two weeks, three weeks, and four weeks from now, at midnight here—which is noon there in Schweilitz—the gate will open for one hour. Time your return accordingly,” he instructed.
That was my only option, then.
”Make sure the Mages coming to receive you are ready when the gate opens,” he added.
Easier said than done. But I had no choice.
The large door-style Transfer Gate on the Hub Tower’s first floor was opened by the two young Androgynos Group members waiting there.
”Let’s go,” Mr. Rocani said.
I followed Mr. Rocani through the gate.
On the other side—a cave-like space. The entrance ahead was backlit, blinding me. I couldn’t immediately make out the situation.
”YOU LITTLE SHIT—SO IT WAS YOU AFTER ALL!” a voice roared, the sound hitting me in the gut.
Wait—were they talking to me?
A massive shadow loomed in front of me—and then the sound of a blade being drawn.
Shit!
I ducked—and a whoosh of air passed right over my head.
