Volume 4 Chapter 83 Queen

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

”I hear there’s a condition for using the canal.”

Mahaka, my Amazoness translator, relayed the Regent’s words.

 What?

 No, what is it?

The imposing Regent met my eyes as she spoke, and Mahaka translated her words.

”She says it’s a toll. Money.”

The amount, in our currency, was ten kin of gold—or two hundred and fifty Schweilitz gold coins.

Unfortunately, the Izumo didn’t have that kind of cash on hand.

The balance I saw in Gida Department Head’s ledgers was around a hundred and twenty coins. Since we’d been away from the ship for a while, and she’d apparently spent some on living expenses and leisure, I figured we were under a hundred by now.

That money was supposed to be our travel fund for buying water and food. Gida was going to be stingy about handing it over, for sure.

The women from the Seeder Fleet went for about fifty to a hundred thousand Yen per person in Schweilitz’s market. That meant, at most, one gold coin each. Even if we sold all of them at that price, we’d barely get a hundred coins or so.

We still couldn’t afford the toll.

Thinking about it, buying Kenze for eleven hundred thousand Yen (a hundred and ten gold coins) was a real bargain. But even if someone offered me ten times that now, I wouldn’t give her up.

”Mr. Rocani, could you lend us some money?”

I asked the elderly Amazoness sitting next to me, who was acting as an interpreter.

She was an elder of the Land of the Fire Ring, the nation of the Androgynos Group.

 Couldn’t you pull some strings?

”Did I not tell you? The Land of the Fire Ring has no money because of the Syphilis calamity. If we had any, we’d have paid the transport fees for our maidservants in advance.”

Oh, right. She did say they were broke.

Hmm, that’s a problem. I’m not asking for a handout, just a loan.

Seeing this, the Regent said something.

”They’re asking if you can’t just use the Transfer Gate to go back to your country and borrow the money.”

 Ah, crap.

Were they doubting me? Suspecting I was lying when I said I needed to return home quickly to persuade His Majesty the King of Schweilitz and wanted to pass through the Nicaragua Canal?

”Sure, using the Transfer Gate would get us to Schweilitz immediately. But it’s already past December. The Transfer Gate in Schweilitz is located halfway up the Horn Mountains. It’s probably already snowed in. It won’t be accessible until around April.”

Even in Salzheim, which is closer than the abandoned mine where the Gate is, snow starts falling more than half a month earlier than in my hometown of Strock Village.

The mine itself is at an even higher elevation. It should already be snowbound, making it impossible to reach even the well-maintained roads of Salzheim.

The Regent and Mr. Rocani went back and forth for a while.

Probably, in the tropical nation of the Dragon God, the concept of being snowed in was hard to grasp. They might not have even seen snow before.

 ”Could we pay later?”

When I asked, I was told the upfront payment was a show of good faith to judge our creditworthiness.

In other words, anyone who couldn’t pay ten kin wasn’t trustworthy.

Well, ten kin of gold was about twenty-five million Yen at Schweilitz’s exchange rate.

If we returned to the Royal Capital, that was an amount I, personally, could easily pay.

No choice. I told Fredys Squad Leader to go get Gida Department Head.

”What is it? If it’s about money, we don’t have any.”

She said that right off the bat, without changing her expression.

This was exactly why I hadn’t wanted to bring her along in the first place. But desperate times call for desperate measures.1

”How much did we get for the women from the Seeder Fleet?”

I asked, but she didn’t answer.

I explained that we needed the money to pass through the Nicaragua Canal.

 Then—

”Gida Department Head, would you rather go through another storm like the Roaring Forties?”

When I threatened her just a little, she made a face, but finally admitted we had four kin of gold in our own currency.

 Pretty much what I’d expected.

”And how much cash do you have on hand?”

”Eighty Schweilitz gold coins. That’s for buying water and food on the way back, you know.”

Yeah, I figured you’d say that.

”You have more hidden away, don’t you?”

 ”I do not.”

She said that and turned away, but there was no way this miser didn’t have a secret stash.

”There are the Mamekin, right? The ones you used to pay the port fees at Hodayn Port.”

Back then, they couldn’t use Schweilitz gold coins, so they paid with those fava-bean-sized nuggets of gold.

If I remember right, one Mamekin was worth three Turku gold coins.

”Yeah, yeah. There are forty-five Mamekin left.”

You don’t have to sound so resentful; it’s not even your money.

Since converting the exchange rate was a hassle, let’s say the value is the same as in Turku: that’s a hundred and thirty-five gold coins.

Add the earnings from the slave sales, and we get two hundred and thirty-five gold coins.

With just fifteen more, we might be able to manage with the cash on hand.

”Leakle, how much are we supposed to be paid for transporting Ring Five this time?”

Mr. Rocani’s eyes went wide as she stared at me.

 ”Five kin for fifteen crates.”

”Then could you let us take three kin from that payment?”

I could hear the Androgynos Group member next to me grinding her teeth, but we were about to travel halfway around the planet. I wanted to keep as much cash on hand as possible.

”I’m not asking for it for free, you know. Once Schweilitz pays us, I’ll pay you back for sure. Call it an interest-free, pay-when-you-can loan.”

It was essentially the same thing Mr. Rocani had said, so I wasn’t trying to provoke her.

”Wait just a moment. Is it truly acceptable to do such a thing? You’ll make it impossible to summon the widow whose soul was flung into another world!”

Elder Rocani was holding Henrietta-san’s summoning hostage with that statement.

 That pissed me off.

”Oh, so you use us for all you’re worth, but you can’t pay us because you have no money. Yet when I ask for a loan from someone who does have money, that’s also no good. And now you’re resorting to threats? If you want a war, I’m ready.”

I stood up as I said it, and Fredys Squad Leader followed suit.

The Land of the Fire Ring of the Androgynos Group had fragile infrastructure.

If I and a few of the Torpedo Department snuck into the capital and blew up the Hub Tower with dynamite, the country’s functionality would come to a halt.

”If you do that, the ‘Dragon God’s Country’—the main Amazoness homeland—bound by ancient covenant, won’t stay silent.”

I didn’t want to make enemies of the Amazoness, but if it came to it, so be it.

If I ran from here to the Izumo, guarding Gida Department Head with Fredys Squad Leader, and then used a suicide drone to destroy the Transfer Gate, the Amazoness wouldn’t dare send their ships into the sea where the Whale Eater lurks.

 ”Lord Larry, stop the theatrics.”

 Huh? And who are you?

There had been two attendants standing behind the Regent. One of them said that to me in Schweilitz’s language.

At that, the stern-looking Regent immediately stood up from her chair and knelt before the attendant.

Could it be that the Queen had been hiding, watching me?

Until now, I hadn’t noticed because she’d been keeping her eyes downcast, but the gaze now fixed on me was a stunning heterochromia of yellow and blue.

 Was she a Vampire Luminous?

No, she had no fangs, nor was she a person of translucent white skin. She was a tanned yellow-skinned woman, like a softball club senpai.

 ”Theatrics, you say?”

Rocani said it with a look of relief on her face.

 That’s not what happened.

”Rocani, Elder of the Land of the Fire Ring. Have you not been discourteous to Lord Larry?”

No doubt about it—that was the distinctive speech of this country’s Queen.

”No, it’s just that due to the Syphilis calamity, the Land of the Fire Ring is impoverished and can’t pay—but wait, who are you to—”

 ”※✕*# Д!!!”

The Regent roared at Rocani for using familiar language.

”I am Kai Zuno Miyako, the Hundred and First Queen of the Dragon God Country!”

When she said that, I had no choice but to kneel on one knee and show my respect.

This was straight out of an Osaka comedy routine. If anyone was acting, it was you, Your Majesty.

”Oh, it’s just a game. Do sit down.”

Where did she learn that kind of language?

But, well, I did as I was told and took my seat.

Rocani, who had been yelled at by the militant Regent, shrank back a little and sat down.

Next to her, Mahaka was so shocked she couldn’t even bow, still sitting there with her mouth hanging open.

”Elder Rocani, you’re fortunate that Lord Larry didn’t truly lose his temper.”

The Queen said that, but I had been genuinely pissed off, you know.

”Let me be clear: If you treat those who have helped you with contempt, no matter how ancient the covenant, we will not aid you. You cannot have forgotten the events of eighty years ago.”

Eighty years ago—that would be during the last Syphilis calamity.

I don’t know what happened, but next to me, Rocani’s face had gone beet red.

”Lord Larry, your wife’s summoning is scheduled for tomorrow, I hear?”

 ”That’s what I’ve been told.”

Though I’d only just heard that myself; originally, it was supposed to be today.

”Elder Rocani, if that summoning were to fail, I will not forgive you. Do you understand?”

 ”Summoning is a gamble—it doesn’t always succeed—”

But she was cut off mid-sentence by the Queen’s “Do you understand?” and fell silent.

”Indeed. Regent Kanve. You shall depart at once with Elder Rocani to the Land of the Fire Ring and confer with the other elders regarding this matter.”

The Queen gave the Regent the order first in the Schweilitz language, then again in what was probably the local tongue.

The Regent, so commanded, rose from her kneeling position, gave a bow, and strode over to Rocani on long legs, grabbing her by the arm.

”Yes, Elder Rocani. You will hand over all profits from Ring Five and the maidservants to Lord Larry, and you will eventually be repaid.”

Rocani looked like she wanted to say something, but the arm trapped by the militant Regent’s grip seemed to hurt quite a bit. She was dragged off, Donadona-style, without being able to say a word.

”Oh my, Lord Larry. Is something displeasing you?”

Had the Queen read my expression? Her heterochromatic eyes were fixed on me as she asked.

”No, I managed to borrow the money, and Mr. Rocani’s situation seems to have been resolved. I have no complaints.”

But I hesitated for a moment about whether I should say something.

”What is it? Speak your mind.”

”The theatrics weren’t theatrics. I really was about to start a war.”

I was referring to what the Queen said when she revealed herself: “Lord Larry, stop the theatrics.”

”Ah, that. Forgive me. If Elder Rocani had taken the bait from your provocation, you would have been serious about crushing the Land of the Fire Ring. That would have been a problem for my country.”

So by calling it “theatrics,” she had prevented Rocani from taking the bait?

 This lady—she’s quite sharp.

”Indeed. Allow me to introduce my Partner.”

The Queen said this, then introduced the male bride who had been standing behind the Regent with her, playing the role of attendant.

”His name is Akeshino Saba, fifteen years old. He is a year younger than I.”

Which meant the Queen was sixteen years old? Wasn’t she too composed for her age?

”Now then, let us get to the main matter.”

The Queen turned her mismatched eyes on me once more.

”The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?”2

 What is she saying?

”You can’t even see the moon from here.”

Fredys Squad Leader murmured softly beside me.

Indeed, although it was approaching evening, it was still bright out.

 ”Did you not hear me?”

The Queen, thinking I hadn’t caught it, said it once more: “The moon is beautiful, isn’t it?”

”Hmm? I heard that Lord Larry was reincarnated from a country in another world called Japan.”

 ”That’s correct.”

I felt like I could guess where this was going.

”Then do you not know the meaning of the phrase, ‘The moon is beautiful, isn’t it’? It means ‘I love you,’ you know.”

 ”I know that. But that’s normally a guy’s line.”

The Queen looked genuinely puzzled when she heard that.

”W-Well, it’s fine, isn’t it? I am in my mating period, after all.”

Ah, right. Amazoness at sixteen still had… you know… that thing attached.

She was saying that since her Partner looked male, there was no problem with her saying the guy’s line.

 But I’m passing.

I have no interest in that sort of thing, and I’m not into lolis either.

”I am in my mating period, you know!”

Why was she saying that twice?

Amazoness reproduction—basically, from around age eight to eighteen, they have a p**is, and their v**inal opening is located inside their anus.

If they mate during this period, fertilized eggs are stored in their bodies and ovulated over a long period, roughly from age twenty to sixty, to develop outside the body.

It’s only during this mating period that Amazoness can incorporate the genes of other races.

”I heard you mated with Riera, Lord Larry.”

”That kind of information got around?!”

I couldn’t help but blurt it out loudly.

”Of course it did. The mother of my Partner, Akeshino, is the Ade-princess’s cousin.”

Well, I suppose that makes sense.

So, because Riera’s mother and the Ade Queen were cousins, news of me mating with her had spread.

”You’ll be staying here at the Viscount’s Palace tonight, won’t you? Be gentle with me, my lord.”

She was completely intent on mating with me tonight.

”My lord,” huh… so that meant I’d be the Queen’s husband, even if only for a night.

 However.

 ”Who will be the attendant?”

”Lord Larry is an experienced man, so you shouldn’t make any mistakes, right?”

In other words: You’ve already held a mating-period Amazoness for the first time, so you can guide your p**is to the v**inal opening inside the anus yourself. Thus, an attendant isn’t necessary.

It wasn’t about missing the hole, it was about setting the mood, you know.

”Hey, I’ll do that attendant thing.”

Fredys Squad Leader raised her hand.

”What the hell are you saying?”

 And then—

”Um, the Partner kid… isn’t he cute?”

Fredys Squad Leader’s cheeks flushed slightly as she murmured quietly.

 This shotacon!!3

 Summary:

Larry’s negotiations to pass through the canal hit a wall when the Regent demands an exorbitant toll, forcing him to pressure his stingy accountant Gida for funds. The tension escalates into threats of war against the Land of the Fire Ring, but the situation is defused when the Queen reveals herself and intervenes, exposing Rocani’s deception. As the political drama settles, the Queen shifts the conversation to a marriage proposal, using the culturally-loaded phrase “The moon is beautiful” and revealing she is in her mating period, leaving Larry to navigate this absurd and unexpected romantic advance.

 —

 Trivia:

 1. The Regent is named Kanve, revealed when the Queen gives her orders.

 2. The Queen’s Partner is a male bride named Akeshino Saba, who is fifteen and described as cute.

 3. Amazoness mating periods occur from roughly age eight to eighteen, during which they have a p**is and their v**inal opening is located inside their anus.

 4. Fertilized eggs from mating during this period can be stored and ovulated later, from age twenty to sixty, for external development.

 5. Rocani is from the Land of the Fire Ring, which is part of the Androgynos Group, a different nation from the Amazoness.

 6. The Queen mentions “eighty years ago” which refers to the previous Syphilis calamity, hinting at a past event.

 7. Larry can pay the entire toll personally if he returns to the Royal Capital in Schweilitz.

 8. The Hub Tower is a critical infrastructure point in the Land of the Fire Ring; destroying it would cripple the country.

 Translation Notes:

1 This Japanese idiom literally means “You can’t replace your belly with your back.” It expresses the idea of making a necessary sacrifice for a greater good, equivalent to “needs must” or “desperate times call for desperate measures.”

2 This phrase is famously attributed to Natsume Soseki as a translation of “I love you.” It is a culturally significant and literary way to confess romantic feelings in Japanese. In this context, the Queen uses it as a pickup line, creating a comedic and ironic gap because it is normally considered a male-coded line and she misunderstands its usage.

3 A Japanese loanword combining “Shota” (from Shoutarou, a common name associated with young boys) and “complex.” Refers to a person who has an attraction to young boys. In this context, it’s used to playfully accuse Fredys of being attracted to the young Partner.

Notes:

• Mahaka – An elderly Amazoness shipping merchant in Takere, former mercenary, and experienced sailor with deep knowledge of local waters, who predicted whale sightings. Serving as a navigation advisor for a Nyunpai-funded trading company, she is blunt yet full of pragmatic folk wisdom. She speaks with a heavy accent and accompanies Rocani as an interpreter for the Hole-Eater strategy meeting.

• Schweilitz – This kingdom, featuring towering academy spires and a full military arsenal of Royal Army troops, forces the protagonist to return. Ruled by a king involved in a hostage exchange, this political power holds a captive feared for execution. It also ordered the confirmation of Princess Rosa’s corpse, driving a scheme that the Queen has caught onto.

• Izumo – The iron-hulled primary vessel, named and personified as a character herself, who loyally carries the protagonist and his crew throughout their journey.

• Gida – The Izumo’s Maintenance Section Chief is an older, disheveled former finance bureaucrat on the Acting Captain’s crew. Pragmatic and outwardly insolent yet polite, she handles logistics—from transferring rescued women and seeking shore supplies to negotiating coal with Rao. Known for using skincare sesame oil, she clashes with Daran and initially resisted hiring Raphael.

• Kenze – Kenze is a muscular, brown-skinned Amazoness and former Takshurgan operative turned research student. A dragon-tattooed guardian and crew member, she rooms with Larry, whom she would prioritize over any mission. Once deeply bonded with Earnest, she is now quietly wasting away while nursing her egg and larva. Despite declining health and a rural background, she remains a strong, warm, and sea-wary presence.

• Rocani – An Elder of Oceanus and calculating leader of the Androgynos Group, this figure appears as a beautiful old woman but is male inside. Emotionally performative yet casual compared to the Regent, they wield significant authority, welcoming the Acting Captain, hosting Larry’s party at the Transfer Gate, interpreting during the Hole-Eater meeting, and remaining ambivalent about the handmaid trade.

• His Majesty – The King of the realm possesses an expressionless, Noh mask-like face, rarely showing emotion except for brief amusement during trials. He holds absolute authority over the kingdom, presiding over high-level deliberations, giving the final word on legal transitions like duels, and maintaining supreme command over all military missions and strategic troop deployments.

• Ho – Ho is the family name of Oliver, a 17-year-old deck crew member and comrade of the protagonist. As a member of the military unit that defended Garao Village, the young man was ultimately murdered during a night watch, slaughtered alongside Marx-san.

• Fredys – Izumo’s deck crew foreman and squad leader is a battle-hardened former slave with a formal, pragmatic bearing. Related to the Ullmans via Uncle Torge and living with Roland, she serves as the Acting Captain’s voice of reason, calling out his behavior while remaining loyal. Refusing command while Larry lives, her sharp judgment makes her an indispensable advisor focused on rescue operations following the Whale Eater attack.

• Leakle – Amazoness official assigned to the Acting Captain. Displays formal, respectful speech. Becomes visibly alarmed when informed about the Hole-Eaters and quickly mobilizes to take action. Serves as the primary intermediary between the Acting Captain’s crew and the Oceanus authorities. Amazoness official at the Viscount’s Palace in Oceanus. Speaks Schweilitz language. Assigned to handle Larry-san’s affairs. Reacts with visible concern to Whale Eater accounts.

• Henrietta – Earnest’s fourth wife, Henrietta, is a muscular, busty orphan, mage, and Royal Magic Academy researcher who served as a royal guard until her assassination during the Haritz Rebellion. Now parasitizing Larry’s daughter—identified by Pamela via scent—her telepathic link persists. Larry must contact her inside the Mother Mushroom to test his observation device and considers summoning her via their bond.

• Larry – Larry is a dark-haired, weary 16-year-old reincarnated Second Lieutenant, cynical Acting Captain of the Izumo, and Associate Professor. A pragmatic, sardonic narrator and Mana user, he founded the Fee Grand Principality, carries Philip IV’s sword, and seeks to protect his companions. Haunted by past trauma and complicated relationships, he struggles with moral conflicts while awaiting his next assignment.

• Kai Zuno Miyako – The Hundred and First Queen of the Dragon God Country. Sixteen years old. Uses archaic and regal speech. Sharp-witted and manipulative in a diplomatic way. Has a Partner named Akeshino Saba. Is in her mating period and propositions Larry.

• Kai – An ash-covered, 20-year-old Dwarf Mage and Bridge Leader accompanying Roland. Recognizable by her translucent white hands, sturdy body, and high regenerative resilience, she has a strong sex drive and unstable mana lower than Maria’s. A capable Izumo crew member and peerless combat mentor with a mysterious past, she loves teasing protagonist Rhein and fueling a romantic betting pool.

• Al – Alberto (Al), a massive red‑haired man recently wed to Mary, lives near the Dish Basin. He’s a companion of Hans, helping intimidate and rally elders as a villager and leader.

• Akeshino – Queen’s partner. Mentioned only as absent from the bed beside Queen’s.

• Saba – A surname belonging to Nikaure.

• Riera – A 13-14-year-old blonde femboy with light brown eyes in a white sundress. He is a male-bride, Commander’s daughter, offspring of Ade-princess, related to Kanve-Saba, and the Queen’s granddaughter. Direct, physically assertive, and mostly expressionless with little dialogue, he participates in the First Rite alongside Kyoyou, showing emotion only when the ritual affects him.

• Ade – Amazoness leader, princess, and older sister to Princess Nikaure, she is also Riera’s mother and a cousin to Kanve-Saba. Possessing a commanding presence, she is highly skeptical of the representatives sent by the Kingdom of Schweilitz and reacts with visible agitation to any threats against her capital.

• Viscount – A noble of the Rus who insisted on bringing reinforcements to the defense of the city.
