Volume 3 Chapter 10 The Second Day of Training Camp: Famous Sites and Historic Ruins of the Island

While I was fishing and chatting with Sawa, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching.
I looked back to see Yui carefully picking her way across the rocks.
”What’s wrong?” I asked.
”Lunch. It’s time to eat, so I came to call you,” Yui replied.
In the direction Yui pointed, everyone was gathered on leisure sheets, spreading out their lunchboxes.
”Understood. Sawa, let’s go,” I said.
”Mm,” Sawa agreed.
The three of us, including Yui, joined the group.
They made space between Manaka and Chifumi for me to sit down.
Food was laid out on plates and in a massive basket.
Orthodox items like rice balls, rolled omelets, and sausages were lined up. The amount of fried chicken was staggering, but with ten people, it was hard to say if it would even be enough. In this world, even the women eat until they’re full.
It seems Mitsuki and Manaka had carried over the food that Mitsuki’s Mother had prepared. It happens every year, but I truly appreciate the effort. Apparently, the cook herself is staying inside the house to stay cool.
As soon as the chorus of “Itadakimasu” died down, everyone’s chopsticks started moving.
”Ah, this is delicious…” Asari remarked.
”You’re right. Incredible,” Risa added.
”Mitsuki’s Mother really is a great cook, isn’t she~” Chifumi commented.
”And yet, Mitsuki can’t cook at all,” Chifumi noted.
”Minoru, you’re loud. I can cook too if I get serious,” Mitsuki snapped.
”Cup ramen doesn’t count as cooking,” I retorted.
”I know that. I make things like fried rice and gyoza at home,” Mitsuki insisted.
”With a fried rice kit? Using frozen gyoza?” I teased.
”So what? Both the kit and the frozen gyoza are delicious. They’re perfectly fine dishes!” Mitsuki exclaimed.
”Minoru, please stop bullying Mitsuki,” Manaka requested.
”Got it,” I replied.
”No dessert for people who say mean things!” Mitsuki declared.
The slightly smaller container Mitsuki pulled out was packed full of bite-sized cut melon.
”Frozen gyoza is a fine dish too. You should be confident! That’s our Mitsuki!” I said.
”You are such a sweet-talker. It’s actually kind of annoying,” Mitsuki grumbled.
Despite her grumbling, Mitsuki passed me the container.
The melon was incredibly sweet.
Once the meal ended, everyone started doing their own thing.
Manaka and Chifumi returned to the villa to rest for a while.
Mitsuki and Asari went back with them, carrying the empty food containers.
Risa and Yuu decided to play a bit longer, so they headed back into the sea. They started long-distance swimming. I was impressed they could swim so well right after eating.
Since Sawa wanted to continue fishing, I asked her to keep an eye on those two from the shore to make sure they didn’t have any accidents. I was thinking of continuing to fish myself… when Yurina spoke to me.
”Minoru-sama, shall we go for a walk?” Yurina asked.
”A walk?” I questioned.
”Yes. Yui-san will guide us around the property, if you’d like,” Yurina explained.
”I see…” I mused.
”Understood. Let’s go together,” I decided.
”Yes!” Yurina cheered.
With that, we returned to the villa, finished changing, and met at the entrance.
Yui appeared wearing pink and black clothes. She had gloves on her hands, high socks on her legs, and was carrying a parasol. The fabric was thin, but the colors looked like they would absorb the sun’s heat and make her quite hot.
Yurina was in denim jeans and a white T-shirt.
I was wearing a matching green and black jinbei, with sandals on my feet.
The three of us were dressed in completely different styles. It was a group with zero sense of uniformity.
Just as we were about to head out, Mitsuki’s Mother called out to us.
”Everyone, are you heading out now?” she asked.
”Yes, we’re going out. We’re going to take a walk outside the property,” I answered.
”If so, go buy anything you’d like to eat at the shop,” she suggested.
She handed us each a thousand yen.
We gratefully accepted.
”Be careful, now~” she called out.
We departed, seen off by Mitsuki’s Mother.
We walked along a dirt path toward the gate at the entrance of the property.
”This island is called the Island of Pirates,” Yui started to speak.
”I’ve heard of that,” Yurina replied.
”These islands floating in the inland sea have been on trade routes since ancient times,” Yui continued.
”Ancient…” Yurina whispered.
”The people of the island either defied or pandered to the government of the time. When they defied them, they were called pirates. There were also times when they served as skilled sailors. We are going to a place where the townscape from that time still remains,” Yui explained.
”It’s famous as an island of sailors now, isn’t it?” Yurina asked.
”Mitsuki’s house, the Onigahara family, was originally a powerful family on this island. Though they’ve left the island now,” Yui mentioned.
”That building we’re staying in is apparently built where their old mansion used to be,” I observed.
”Is there a reason they left the island?” Yurina inquired.
”It seems it was a power struggle. Because they were ‘Oni’. They were chased out by Momotaro and driven from the island,” Yui supplemented my comment.
”The descendants of that Momotaro are long gone, too,” Yui added.
”Because the entire archipelago, including this island, became part of the mainland’s ‘town’. Even if it was fine in the past, there’s no doubt that in this day and age, it’s more convenient to be on the mainland than on an island,” I reasoned.
While we were talking, the old townscape came into view.
”This area is a landscape conservation district. The old houses are preserved here. And a little further ahead is the main street of this island,” Yui noted.
”There are a fair number of tourists, aren’t there?” Yurina asked.
”It’s convenient to move via the morning and evening ferries and do a day trip in between. The size of the island and the number of places to see are just right,” Yui explained.
We arrived at the island’s archive museum. I paid 100 yen for admission to Mitsuki’s Mother, who was continuing to chat with the local elderly ladies at the reception.
Beyond the exhibits of ancient documents in glass cases, there was a corner that gave off a strange atmosphere.
A space exhibiting ancient weapons. Among them, one sword in particular caught the eye.
”Uminagi,” Yurina read the name of the sword.
”A dungeon-produced item. Or a sword forged using dungeon materials as a base,” I analyzed.
”…This is a masterpiece,” Yurina whispered.
”It must have cut down quite a few phantoms,” I said.
”Yes,” Yurina answered while keeping her gaze fixed on the sword.
”By the time I graduate, will my sword become like this?” Yurina asked.
”It depends on your future experience. …But, this is the direction you are aiming for. You understand, right?” I said.
”Yes,” Yurina nodded strongly and straightened her posture.
She turned toward Yui.
”Yui-san, you wanted to show us this, didn’t you?” Yurina asked.
”That’s right,” Yui confirmed.
”Thank you,” Yurina said.
”It’s fine. My weapon is a blade, too. I come to see this every year, so it was on the way,” Yui replied.
Yui suddenly lifted her skirt. It was at an exquisite height where I couldn’t see her panties, but I could see her thighs. From where we stood, we could see a large knife in a sheath strapped to a binder on her thigh under her skirt.
After that, the three of us looked around all the materials. Yurina was reading the cursive script of the ancient documents quite naturally.
Since it was a small room, we were able to check all the materials in a little over 30 minutes. We bowed to the ladies at the entrance and left the museum.
A few minutes’ walk from the museum, our next destination, the shop, was just around the corner.
Each of us bought ice cream at the shop. Using the money the three of us had left over, we bought fish and shellfish that had been caught just this morning.
We returned to the villa via the coastal road from the shop street.
It was still too early for dinner when we returned.
We killed time by doing sorcery Training in the courtyard.
Risa and the others, who had returned from the sea, and Chifumi, who had been relaxing in the villa, joined us along with the childhood friend group including Manaka.
Since we were at it, we did some light training together.
After training, we washed off our sweat in the shower, and then it was time for tonight’s dinner.
On the second day, we all made curry together.
The ingredients were the seafood we bought today. The side dish was grilled fish.
Unlike yesterday, we ate dinner in the villa’s dining room.
Everyone ate a lot again today. With repeated helpings, the large pot full of curry disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Once we finished cleaning up, a gaming tournament started right there in the dining room.
We projected the game Sawa had brought on a projector and enjoyed party games and large-group racing games on the big screen.
We decided that anyone who got sleepy could leave freely, and that we would take turns in the bath and then go to sleep. So, the number of people in the dining room decreased as time went on, and eventually, it became a situation where Chifumi and Manaka were watching Sawa and me playing against each other. After repeating wins and losses, we broke up before the day changed.
While waiting in the room for the three girls to finish their baths, I must have been tired, because I fell asleep before I knew it.
