Chapter 197 The Man Reporting on the Hero
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”…That is all for the report,” Seto said.
”I see… Good work, Seto,” Delgaria replied.
Seto was known for using the stealth ability
Look, here’s the deal. I barely got back from the Demon Forest⁴ with the news, and right as my break ends, I get sent to spy on the Kingdom. The goal was to check out the ‘Heroes’—super strong people who just showed up.
The Holy City already had other spies in the Kingdom, so I thought it was a waste of time… but I ended up finding some really cool stuff.
”Is the power of these Heroes… for real?” Delgaria asked.
”Yeah. Princess Viorga is very careful about what news gets out. Honestly, if I couldn’t turn
The thing that really shocked me was how Princess Viorga spreads news. She knows every country is sending spies. Because of that, she lets out just enough info so a spy can think, ‘I did a great job and got all this info!’ and go home happy.
But it’s a trap. She doesn’t care if they steal that info. Most spies run back home with their ‘prizes’ before they find the real secrets—never knowing that Princess Viorga basically gave it to them.
If I didn’t have Invisible, I would have been tricked too. But I stayed hidden, got into the castle, and found the real truth. Delgaria probably knew only I could do it. I think this every time, but I wish he’d just tell me that before I go out.
”First, about the Holy Sword Hero⁵ Muro, the noble… he’s the real leader of the four. He’s really as strong as they say since he beat the Beastman Knights. He can make different holy swords appear out of nowhere,” Seto explained.
Out of all the big countries, the Holy City probably has the best info. Thanks to me!
”He can also make his body stronger… but these hero powers don’t come from Orbs. They are powers they had from the start,” Seto added.
”That is the most shocking part… is that even possible?” Delgaria asked.
”It’s happening. I saw it myself… how the Heroes fought the Empire’s Yellow Dragon Knights⁶,” Seto replied.
Superhuman power—usually that comes from an Orb or from using spirits. Both need Magic Power⁷. Usually, you need an Orb to get strong like that. But these Heroes had those powers naturally.
”In a 1-on-1 fight, the Holy Sword Hero is for sure the strongest,” Seto said.
The Empire already had their Green Dragon Knights beaten by a Hero. It was the first time those strong knights ever lost. But the Empire is huge and much stronger than a normal country. Instead of waiting, they sent the Yellow Dragon Knights right away. That must have surprised the Kingdom too.
Fighting the strongest knights in a row is crazy. You need a ton of gear and medicine. If the war takes a long time, the cost of food alone would be huge. It looked like the Republic was helping… but the Kingdom sent out all five of its knight groups. Then the Hero went to the front and beat the Yellow Dragon Knights too.
Now that they beat two knight groups, everyone knows the Heroes are the real deal. The Empire will be more careful now. No one knows how deep the Heroes’ power really goes.
I saw the fight… it was scary. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to fight someone like that head-on.
”Then there’s Great Tree Hero⁸ Koshiki… her body strength is even higher than Muro’s,” Seto noted.
”Hmm…? But you say Muro is the better fighter?” Delgaria asked.
”Yeah. Simply put, Koshiki just has that physical boost. She doesn’t have the special swords like Muro,” Seto explained.
But that strength… it was way better than anyone using a ‘Body’ type Orb. It was definitely a special power.
”Magic Staff Hero⁹ Akairi… she’s like a cheat-mode mage,” Seto said.
”…What does that mean?” Delgaria asked.
”She can do the work of a top mage and a ‘Mind’ type Orb all by herself. She fires spells fast and can even do many at the same time…” Seto explained.
”……She is a monster,” Delgaria whispered.
”Yep. In a big war, she’s probably the strongest Hero,” Seto said.
’Mind’ type Orbs can do magic-like stuff, like throwing lightning. But usually, you can only do one thing at a time. Also, mages take time to cast. Magic Staff Hero Akairi was just blasting them out with no wait. She’s a cheat mage, for sure.
But there’s one Hero that is a real pain for the Holy City.
”I put it in the report, but the one to watch out for is…” Seto started.
”Healing Hero¹⁰ Yakushi…” Delgaria finished.
”Bingo,” Seto said.
Healing Hero Yakushi… she’s bad news. The biggest issue is her healing power. On this whole continent, the only people who can heal wounds are in the Holy City. Rich nobles from every country pay lots of money to come here to get fixed. They also try to be our friends because they need that healing. It’s a special business that only we have.
Hero Yakushi’s power is a threat to that. I don’t know what the big bosses—the Holy Dukes—will do. But if that power is passed down to kids like the nobles here, the Kingdom won’t need us for healing magic anymore. They might even help other countries. If that happens, our city won’t be special. Our power will drop, and that’s bad for everyone.
”…I’ll ask, just to be sure,” Delgaria started.
”No way. Can’t do it,” Seto said.
”I didn’t say anything yet,” Delgaria noted.
”You were going to ask, ‘Can you kill Hero Yakushi?’ right!? No way!” Seto yelled.
Killing her is impossible. If I even tried, the other Heroes would kill me in a second. Plus, we don’t know her full power. Even if I cut her head off, she might just grow it back. Maybe if she was all alone on a battlefield… but right now, no.
”…Fine. Anyway, the Kingdom has come back. The Holy City doesn’t want the Empire to take over the Kingdom,” Delgaria said.
”Eh? Why not?” Seto asked.
”Don’t you get it? If the Empire eats the Kingdom, the Republic is next… and then they will come for us,” Delgaria explained.
”Whaaat!?” Seto shouted.
The Empire attacking the Holy City…!? While I stood there shocked, Delgaria sighed.
”Too many people here think other wars don’t matter… but the Empire is the only one strong enough to take over the whole place. If they do, they can surround us whenever they want,” Delgaria said.
He says the Holy City only stays safe because we are friends with many neighbors. If only the Empire is left, everything changes.
”We can’t stay on top if everyone else is our enemy. It’s better if the Kingdom stays alive,” Delgaria finished.
”I guess so…” Seto said.
Right, this guy is a noble. He sees things from a much higher place than me…
”Oh, right. I heard a weird rumor,” Seto said.
”A rumor?” Delgaria asked.
”Yeah. I didn’t write it down because I couldn’t prove it, but they say the Heroes were summoned from another world,” Seto said.
”………” Delgaria was silent.
People in the castle were joking about it. If I had been a servant there, I might have found out more. Just being invisible and listening isn’t enough.
”And they say there were five of them at the start,” Seto added.
”What…?” Delgaria asked.
”But only four Heroes are active. Where’s the fifth? …That’s the rumor. The ‘other world’ stuff sounds fake anyway, so I didn’t put it in the report,” Seto said.
”………” Delgaria went silent again.
Either way, after beating the Beastman Knights, the Kingdom’s power is going to grow. Princess Viorga might become Queen soon… Things are going to stay busy for a while…

T/L:
Notes:
• Seto – An operative of the Holy City’s dark organization. He wields the Invisible ability but suffers from chronic misfortune.
• Delgaria – Seto’s boss in the Holy City’s secret organization. A member of the 15 noble families. She looks at things with a high-level view of the world.
• Viorga – The First Princess of the Emmeld Kingdom. She is a beautiful, young woman with long golden hair and sharp blue eyes, always dressed in an elaborate crimson and gold royal gown. She is utterly ruthless, viewing all people—including the summoned Heroes and her own family—as disposable assets in her political games. Looks like Aileen Lauren from certain series.
• Koshiki – A tall, beautiful D-cup girl with a stern, clean-cut appearance. She is deeply in love with her (non-blood-related) older brother, to an obsessive degree, which she openly defends as correct. Have long straight black hair, blunt bangs, and glasses.
