Chapter 65 The Girl Who Glimpsed the Truth of This World

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

A single week had vanished in the blink of an eye.

¹Amazing. I’ve managed to save up about 80,000 yen…!

”I never thought you’d actually work for a whole week without cracking under the pressure,” Ami-chan remarked².

”I had a goal, after all!” Shou countered, beaming.

Speaking of the item, I’d already hit the ‘buy’ button via mail order. It was scheduled to arrive tomorrow morning, and I planned to pay with cash on delivery, since I don’t own a credit card.

Tomorrow, after collecting the package in the morning, I’d head out in the afternoon to buy supplies. The goal was to be back in the other world by evening.

”Even so, 80,000 yen in one week! When you think about it, this is the first time I’ve ever earned so much in such a short period!” Shou burst out, excited.

If I worked for 20 days, I could probably make just over 200,000 yen. Well, I wasn’t planning on staying in Japan for that long, though.

”I’m feeling so good, I’m going to grab my first bowl of ramen in a year before going home today!” Shou declared.

”You must be pretty wound up since you get to go back tomorrow, especially after all that work,” Ami-chan commented, her voice flat.

The last time I’d actually eaten ramen at a restaurant was truly about a year ago.

The price kept going up every year, and my pay wasn’t increasing to match, so it had literally become a ‘flower on a high branch’³—something beautiful but unattainable.

”Oh, right, I should buy some for Cleonora and the others, too.”

”How are you planning to put ramen into the Treasure Vault?” she inquired.

”It’s easy. I can buy a two-serving pack of fresh noodles at the supermarket for about 200 yen.”

All I had to do was take the noodles out of the bag, fold up the soup packets, and put them into the Treasure Vault. Then I could pull them out in the kitchen of the other world.

I should pick up some scallions and chashu pork, too, while I’m at it. That sounded like a great plan.

As Shou was walking home down the dark night road, indulging in these fantasies, a sound shattered the quiet.

 ”Gwaaah, Gwaaaahhhhh!”

 ”Tch!?”

A strange, eerie cry made Shou turn his head. A crow was perched on a streetlamp.

The crow was staring intently at him.

 ”What is it…?” Shou murmured.

“The Calamity of Lust Princess, Orgoamii…! I’ve found you…! You are right there…!” a voice boomed in his mind.

 ”Huh!?” Shou squeaked.

 I-it spoke!? A c-crow!?

Ami-chan slowly appeared right beside him. Up until then, she had kept her presence concealed as usual.

”Aww, that was a close one… I’m so relieved that the first pursuer I ran into was you,” Ami-chan drawled, letting out a breath.

 ”…!? A p-pursuer…!?” Shou stammered.

This crow was…? One of the pursuers they’d mentioned before!?

“Hmph… I am also pleased that I was the first among my comrades to locate you. I see… that man is the next candidate, is he? But his domain has not yet formed… negotiations must be difficult,” the crow scoffed, its voice formal.

”Oh, you do understand, don’t you? But… pff. What’s with that outfit? Did the existence coefficient in this world become too much to bear, so you had to possess a mere bird?” Ami-chan giggled.

“The conditions are the same for you, are they not? Furthermore, I doubt your power has fully returned. I shall dispose of you here!” the crow announced.

The crow flapped its wings, and a black, mist-like haze overflowed from its body in midair.

Then, with a grotesque, grinding sound, flesh began to squirm and writhe, gradually growing larger.

”Wha-wha-what is that!? A-Ami-chan!? Wha-what should we do!?” Shou yelped, panicking.

The mass of flesh eventually grew to over two meters in size, and then began to contort into a humanoid shape. This could only lead to a bad outcome!

”Calm down. He’s one of the low-ranking pursuers… He’s just a slightly stronger guard-class, that’s all,” Ami-chan said, trying to reassure him.

”But isn’t that still really strong!?” Shou exclaimed.

”It’s fine. Listen closely. His existence isn’t completely solidified yet… When I give the signal, use that,” she commanded.

The mass of flesh finally transformed into a hideous monster. The best comparison was an alien from a movie.

Its rear head extended backward, and the ends of both its arms were fitted with glittering blades. They looked at least a meter long.

It was clearly a dangerous thing. Its appearance was terrifying.

“With no Demon Lord to protect you, no one is left! Here and now—”

 ”Shou! Water Splendor Flash!”

 ”!!”

Ami-chan shouted the attack order at Shou like a seasoned Pokémon Trainer.

All Shou wanted was to escape the sheer terror, so he instantly activated the skill as instructed.

The monster was close, and the target was massive. Even in his state of shock, hitting it was easy.

A super-jet-powered water cutter extended from the tip of his outstretched right arm. He swung it like a scythe, from left to right.

“—Tch…!? Wha…!? Th-this is impossible…! T-that is…!?” the monster choked out.

The water cutter lasted for about two to three seconds. As usual, the recoil was tremendous; his right shoulder felt like it was about to pop out of its socket.

But the monster, which had taken the skill head-on, was sliced clean in two, right through the torso. The two halves then dissolved into particles of light and vanished.

 ”Yes! We won!” Ami-chan crowed.

 ”Huh…!? What…!? Shou stammered, bewildered.

”Even so, it’d be annoying if his friends show up. Shou, we’re heading straight home today,” Ami-chan stated firmly.

 ”O-okay…” Shou mumbled.

I didn’t understand what had just happened, but at least the crisis seemed to have passed.

Though, the fact that a monster like that was a ‘pursuer’… my heart is still pounding like crazy…

* * *

 ”….!?”

My presence there was purely by chance. Club activities had ended, and I simply thought I’d take a slightly longer route home.

But I was starting to regret it a little. The man walking ahead was mumbling to himself as he walked.

What was strange was that he was clearly speaking in a way that suggested he was conversing with someone, yet he wasn’t on the phone.

Feeling a peculiar sense of unease, I deliberately slowed my pace, gradually putting distance between myself and the man.

I didn’t mind taking the long way home, but I also didn’t want to slow down to a crawl. The situation created a subtle stress.

Sigh… I shouldn’t try things I’m not used to… I mused internally.

The reason I wanted a change of pace—the ‘long way home’—was because I’d been feeling weak lately.

I had dedicated myself to Kendo, but I’d lagged behind during the last practice match.

I didn’t want to believe that the cause was somehow connected to that man—my fiancé.

Lately, he had started showing up at my practice matches for every little reason. Honestly, it was irritating.

Furthermore, his presence also brought stress from my classmates, who constantly pestered me with questions.

Things like where we went on our first date, whether we’d already had our first time, or how I wished he’d propose. All these things had nothing to do with Kendo and were the primary source of my stress right now.

No matter how many times I told him to stop coming because he was a nuisance, he wouldn’t listen. Even my grandfather wouldn’t take me seriously, saying, “He’s probably just worried about you.”

I shouldn’t be thinking about that man, especially at a time like this, I scolded myself.

The man who had been walking far ahead was now out of sight. He must have turned off at the T-junction.

I was turning right, so I hoped he wouldn’t be in that direction.

And then, after deliberately taking my time and turning right at the T-junction, I saw him.

The man who had been mumbling to himself was standing not far away, with his back to me.

But what truly astonished me, what my brain couldn’t process, was the monster standing in front of the man.

 It was enormous—a literal monster.

Its form seemed to be the embodiment of cruelty, its head had a shape that inspired revulsion, and I could see scythe-like claws on both its hands.

That man was surely going to be killed. I might even be in danger myself. However…

 ”….!?”

The man swung his right arm horizontally, and incredibly, the monster was instantly sliced into two halves at the torso. What’s more, the monster’s ‘corpse’ then vanished into particles of light.

I also noticed that the streetlamp right next to the monster was cleanly cut. From that, I could only conclude:

An Iai strike!? He cut the monster with something invisible!? The strike was so sharp that it also sliced the streetlamp next to it!? I thought, stunned.

Moreover, a small, palm-sized woman was hovering right next to the man. Should I call her a fairy?

The two talked about something, but then quickly left the scene. I was struggling so hard to process what I had just seen that I couldn’t move my feet.

Did that man… not talk to himself, but rather converse with a fairy!? Is he secretly taking down cruel monsters!? Or perhaps the Japanese government is aware of these creatures, and he’s a government-affiliated monster sweeper!?

Feeling my heart pound loudly, I slowly took a step forward. I directed my gaze at the streetlamp.

I knew it… It’s perfectly sliced… Wait, there’s a scratch on the wall too!?

He must have unleashed an invisible slash. Come to think of it, the reason I started Kendo was because I wanted to be able to unleash an invisible slash like that someday.

That’s right. Even now, I swing my bamboo sword, dreaming of the day I can unleash an invisible slash.

”Heehee, heheheheh…” I chuckled to myself.

I never thought that someone who could unleash an invisible slash actually existed…!

”A beast of darkness emerging from the void… A Fairy Princess guiding the Chosen One… Heheheh… I see… It’s finally starting, isn’t it? Yes… The world’s time… the sand in the hourglass is running low. I wonder if it can be reversed? Either way, this is just the overture… The real battle starts now. The eye gazing out from the abyss will never let you escape,” I whispered.

I should rush home today and practice my Mighty Void Cleaving Slash!

 Author:

The Pursuers vary greatly in strength, but they cannot exert their full power on Earth. The reason will be revealed in the next chapter….

And Miss Miyakuji, who witnessed Shimizu take down the pursuer, had her heart pounding due to the monster’s vicious appearance.

She is somewhat susceptible to Chuunibyou.

Next chapter, they return to the other world.

 Summary:

Shou is finally ready to jump back to the other world, his pockets loaded with 80,000 yen and ramen supplies. But his triumphant walk home is cut short by a terrifying, crow-turned-alien monster, one of the dreaded pursuers. Ami-chan, calm in the chaos, barks out an order, forcing Shou to unleash the devastating Water Splendor Flash, which slices the monster into particles of light. Unbeknownst to them, the entire supernatural spectacle is watched by Miyakuji, a stressed Kendo student. The impossible sight of the invisible slash reignites her inner fantasies of the sword, confirming her suspicion that a secret, magical war is about to begin. The stage is set for a dramatic return!

 —

 Character Insight:

Shou’s financial success gives him a confidence boost, but his terror in the face of the monster proves he’s still deeply human and dependent on Ami-chan’s guidance. Ami-chan remains the calm, authoritative force, subtly condescending yet protective. Miyakuji’s intense stress and frustration with her societal expectations and fiancé are completely overshadowed and sublimated into a fantastical, Chuunibyou interpretation of the battle, highlighting her deep desire for escape and power.

 —

 Behind the Scene:

The tension between the Demon Lord’s forces (the pursuers) and Ami-chan’s faction is explicitly raised. The low power level of the pursuer on Earth, due to the ‘existence coefficient,’ sets a clear rule for future Earth-side battles. The introduction of Miyakuji as a witness establishes a new plot thread—she is now the first civilian to glimpse the magical conflict, and her ‘Chuunibyou’ nature means she interprets it as a grand, epic confrontation, not a terrifying one.
