Volume 13 Chapter 215-2 Kohina Yukari, Annoying Parent-Child Relationship
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Aqua held up the tablet, angling it towards me.
The screen displayed a room I didn’t recognize, but the shelves were absolutely *crammed* with everything I’d ever been in.
Huh, even some stuff where my name wasn’t even in the credits, like, *extra* extra.
Whoever’s house this is, they’ve got good taste!
I’m flattered!
”This is Kohina-senpai’s mom’s room.”
…Huh?
I froze, completely thrown by Aqua’s words.
”And now, please take a look at the second photo.”
The next image showed movie posters of mine, collaboration goods with this guy… it was a mountain of stuff!
Wait, is that the same shelf in the corner?
Does that mean… this is Mom’s room?!
”Mom… can you *still* say you don’t care about Kohina-senpai?!”
Aqua struck a pose, a dramatic *BAM*!
”Nice!”
”Just as I expected. Yes, I, with my sharp mind, knew all along.”
”Hmm, Mom, you really *do* like Kohina Yukari, huh?”
”Mom, checkmate.”
”Aqua-sama, how did you even get these photos?”
”Well, Aqua-sama did an Aqua-sama!”
What the heck does “Aqua-sama did an Aqua-sama” even *mean*?!
Don’t try to gloss over something that makes absolutely no sense!!
”W-wait! How did you get those photos…?”
”Mom, do you know who I am?”
What is he even talking about with that serious face?
Mom was making the same face I was.
”Who… Shirogane Aqua…?”
”Yes, that’s right. Nothing is impossible for Shirogane Aqua.”
Aqua swiped the screen, and the image changed to a group of women holding Aqua’s merch, flashing peace signs.
Wait, what?!
Aren’t those our maids?!
How were they so easily… bought off?!
”Mom, if possible, please don’t scold or fire them. They wouldn’t agree to cooperate, no matter the offer, until I personally called and asked for the sake of you and Kohina-senpai.”
Even though you’re saying that, everyone was super happy to get your autographed goods, you know!
”Aaaaaaaah! If you knew that from the start, I didn’t have to go through all this roundabout trouble, did I?!”
Her face bright red, my mom lightly tapped Aqua’s arm with a feeble fist, *thump, thump*.
”Mom… I, uh, really like seeing an older sister squirm with embarrassment more than my 3 daily meals.”
”That’s just your perversion, isn’t it?!”
The onlookers were listening with idiotic expressions, like “What a good story,” but they’re not all clueless, are they!?
I accidentally blurted that out!!
”So, Kohina-senpai, that’s the truth.”
”Wh-what about it!”
It’s too late for that now!
”B-but, yes… she might think a little more of me, but for this person, protecting the house is more important!”
”I see, I see, so that’s where Kohina-senpai’s stubbornness came from…”
Wh-what?
That face… You’ve got something to say!?
Aqua gently took my mother’s hand, showing a kind expression.
”Mom, is the house more important than Kohina-senpai?”
”Th-there’s no way that’s true! Why would the house be more important than my own daughter?!”
Huh!?
My mother’s words left me with a simple, dumbstruck expression, like an autumn leaf had smacked me.
”B-But, ever since I was a child, you always told me, ‘As a daughter of a noble family, you should act this way’…”
”That was just to make sure you wouldn’t be looked at strangely by the other nobles around you! Of course, that’s why!!”
”Then—then what about that time when I stopped that boy from cutting his hair!?”
”That’s because if you picked a fight with a noble boy, no matter how prestigious our family is, your position would have been at risk! Otherwise, do you really think I would have bowed my head like that!?”
”You even tried to force me into an all-girls boarding school!”
”If I were really forcing you, I would have just brought you back home since I knew where you ran away to! Besides, you ran away before even telling me you didn’t want to go! If you hated it so much that you had to run away, I wouldn’t have tried to make you go in the first place!!”
”Then, then…!”
I couldn’t find the words.
I stared at my mother without even blinking.
Seeing her face flush bright red, raw emotions spilling out, I was reminded of the times she scolded me.
It hit me──she wasn’t angry just to protect our home.
She was upset because she cared about me.
Around us, onlookers were clapping and shedding tears.
”Congratulations!”
”It’s great that the misunderstanding has been cleared up!”
”So, it turns out that Kohina Yukari couldn’t fully grow up and had been stuck in a rebellious phase for nearly ten years, while Mom was just a communication-challenged softie…”
”Oh, I see! If Kohina Yukari struggles to express herself, it makes sense that Mom would too.”
”It was just a struggle in communication between parent and child. Mom really loves Kohina Yukari, and Kohina Yukari wanted attention because she thought Mom cared more about the house than her!”
”Now that I think about it, Kohina Yukari always seemed to want more attention…”
”Wait, why did this mother-daughter pair argue for over ten years?”
”Shhh! You can’t say that!”
”That was one long family feud.”
”For now, let’s just celebrate how amazing Aqua-sama is!”
”Aqua-sama forever!”
”Hey, don’t think you can wrap this all up nicely just because people are starting to lose interest and bring Aqua-sama into it!”
Seriously, what is up with you guys!?
Aqua raised his hand, scanning the crowd with a serious face.
”From today onward, I hereby declare this place the site of reconciliation for the Kohina family!”
The crowd erupted in joy, raising their hands in excitement.
”Yay!”
”A new tourist attraction has been born in Shiga Prefecture!”
”SEKAI NO BIWAKO!”
”Indeed, Lake Biwa is our pride!”
”For those who want to make amends, head to Lake Biwa!”
”Lake Biwa is truly magnificent!”
”Long live Lake Biwa! Long live Aqua-sama!”
”Alright, let’s wrap this up!”
”Everyone, be careful on your way home!”
”Kohina Yukari, if you’ve learned your lesson, try to be a bit more honest from now on!”
”That’s right, that’s right!”
Ugh!
You onlookers are getting way too involved for just spectators!!
I walked up to Aqua, glaring at her with narrowed eyes.
”…I’ll at least say thank you. Thanks.”
”Anytime!”
Ugh!
What’s with that charming smile?!
I was ready to snap at you like usual if you tried to make light of this, but with that face, I can’t say anything.
”Also, you keep saying ‘Kohina and family,’ but we’re not Kohina.”
”…Huh?!”
Aqua’s face goes blank, just like the simple expression I had earlier.
Huh?
You got along with my maid, but did you not even know my mother’s name?
Sigh…that’s why you’re like this…never mind, it’s fine for now.
”Kohina is my grandmother’s maiden name, so it’s my mom’s old surname.”
”Oh, so what’s Kohina-senpai’s real name then…”
Just as I was about to speak, my mom, who had been thanking the store staff, came back over.
”Thank you. By the way, I haven’t told you my name yet, have I? I’m Yukari’s mother, Kujou Yoshimi.”
”Kujou…I remember Rihito-san mentioning that names with ‘ku’ or ‘kyu’ are related to Kuga.”
Hearing Aqua’s words, a cold air seemed to surround my mom.
”Kuga? Yes, we are indeed counted among the same clan as the Kuga, but the Kujou are different. We have a proper Sumeragi lineage. In a different time, our Yukari could have lived as a princess.”
Geez────!
Stop it!
Don’t bring up stuff from hundreds of years ago!!
That’s why I left home and took up my grandmother’s name!!
”Kohina-senpai was a princess…?”
Ah, come on!
You shouldn’t think about complicated things, I always tell you that!!
You’re turning from cool to just plain silly!
”Come on, let’s go home already!”
I pushed Aqua and bundled him into the car for the trip back.
Then, my mom came closer, fidgeting with her fingertips as if she wanted to say something.
”Yukari…”
”I know. Next time, I’ll come back properly with Grandma, so wait till then.”
My words made my mom’s face brighten up instantly.
Ugh!
What is it?!
If I was that easy to understand from the start, we wouldn’t have dragged this out for so long!!
”You two are really troublesome, you know that?”
I really don’t want to hear it from Grandma, especially since she knew everything all along!
But then again, I can’t imagine my younger self actually taking her words to heart…
Thinking about it, I really have to be thankful for the onlookers and Aqua.
”I wonder who you take after?”
My mom and I silently screamed in our hearts, “You, obviously!” at Grandma’s grinning face.
