Finally, Kanon’s labor pains began.
So… I’m finally going to be a father…
Remembering everything that’s happened up until now… a whole ocean of emotions just wells up inside me.
”Uuugh…”
”Kanon! Are you alright?!”
I stayed close, right by Kanon’s side as she suffered through the contractions.
Damn… my wife, Kanon, is in so much pain, and all I can do is watch?!
Argh… I’m such a useless man.
”A… Aqua… please…”
”Kanon, what is it?! Tell me anything! If there’s anything I can do, just say the word!”
I squeezed Kanon’s hand tightly, leaning in close to her mouth.
I wanted to do something, *anything*, for Kanon.
That’s all I could think about.
”I… I’m embarrassed for you to see me… pushing, and hearing my voice… so please, don’t look too much…”
Kanon?!
Just as I was frozen, still gripping Kanon’s hand, Kohina-senpai nudged me from behind.
”You gotta understand a woman’s heart.”
Kohina-senpai… understands women’s hearts?!
I refrained from making such a tactless comment.
I let go of Kanon’s hand and slowly got up, moving away slightly.
Then, Emily immediately rushed to Kanon’s side.
”Kanon, are you okay? Don’t worry, your mama’s here!”
”Since when did Emily-senpai become my mama?! Seriously! Ugh!”
Kanon gave a small smile as she retorted to Emily, as usual.
Emily’s presence seems to be a huge comfort to Kanon.
Following Emily, Kotono and Kaede also came to Kanon’s side.
Having those 3, who she’s so close to, by her side is a good thing for Kanon.
”Kanon-san, huff, huff, fuu, huff, huff, fuu, okay!”
”In times like these, it’s all about power! Somehow, just give birth with the power!”

I’m a little worried about when Kaede gives birth.
The kid… *SPAWNS*!
I just hope the baby doesn’t *POP* out like that…
”Hang in there, Kanon! I’m here!!”
”Hang in there, Ane-sama!”
Kanon’s face softened, just a little, after Victoria-sama and Haa-chan took her hands.
Then Kythera-san, who’d been acting as her guardian, and Mary-obaa-chan spoke to Kanon too.
”You’re going to be a Saint, Kanon.”
”It’s okay, we’re all here for you.”
I watched from a little ways off, fidgeting.
And then, for some reason, Kohina-senpai came over to me, holding a glove and a ball.
”Here, let us handle things in here. You go outside and play catch or something. We’ll come get you when the baby’s born.”
”Y-yes…”
I couldn’t argue.
Because there was nothing I could do here.
I left the hospital ward in the Shirogane Kingdom and started practicing against the wall, alone.
My wife was in labor, and here I was…what the hell was I even doing?
Just as I started thinking that, I felt someone approaching.
Maybe the baby was already here?!
I turned toward the sound of footsteps.
”Junior!”
”Tenga-senpai?! What are you doing here!?”
Tenga-senpai, glove on, held out his hand for the ball.
Seriously?
He’s going to play catch with me, when my wife is in labor and I’m just patheticly practicing against a wall?!
Damn!

I started playing catch with Tenga-senpai in the middle of the night.
”Huh? Haruka-san is here too?”
”Yeah, I was basically dragged along by Haruka-nee. Kohina Yukari-san asked me to keep you company with some catch…”
Apparently, Haruka-san has a midwife’s license, and she rushed over after hearing the news in the girls’ pre-birth group chat, hoping to help in some way.
Thank you, Haruka-san, thank you so much!!
I was truly grateful for her kindness.
As Tenga-senpai and I silently kept throwing the ball, 2 more people joined us.
”Hey, by the way──why are we playing catch?”
”I have no idea.”
Tenga-senpai and I stand side by side, while Toa and Shintaro are happily tossing the ball back and forth.
Four guys, in the dead of night──past 4 AM──and we’re all just having a good time with a friendly game of catch.
Honestly, I don’t get what’s going on either──so maybe that’s okay.
None of this makes sense, and I’m just going with it.
”Shintaro, Toa──thanks, you two…”
”Don’t sweat it, Aqua! We’re best friends, right?”
”Yeah, but we’re kinda just the bonus sidekicks for Mom and the others, huh?”
Turns out, even the moms who’ve been through childbirth came running for Kanon’s sake.
Toa and Shintaro, who came along to support Kanata-san and Kiyoko-san, showed up late at night just to play catch with me.
Damn it!
I can’t help but tear up over this brotherly bond shining so bright.
Sorry, you guys.
The fact that I, the guy leading BERYL and Beryl Entertainment, am just casually tossing a ball while my wife’s suffering… it’s so damn pathetic, I can’t stand it!
”Hey, Kujaku. Hajime──why are we even playing catch, huh?”
”Don’t ask. Maruo, focus on the game!”
”Whoa, I missed the ball! Sorry about that!”
Kohina-senpai, you only need one person to catch, you know.
How many people did you even invite!?
”Hey, Nobu──why are we even here?”
”Well, they said it’s ’cause we’re short on players for baseball.”
”Tsuwabuki-san, your turn!”
”Leave it to me, Kamonohashi-san!”

My Kohina-senpai got all flustered and sent out a bunch of calls──didn’t mean for it to turn into this──really sorry!
”Toa, playing catch with Mr. Aqua? Seriously?!”
”Oh, Rihito-san, he’s over there now.”
”Leave it to me. Danjou-san, you’re up next!”
”Got it!”
Kohina-senpai, seriously──this many invites?
Enough already!!
They’ve got numbers one through 9, plus pinch-hitters, defensive replacements, relief pitchers, closers, and even the damn manager!
We were just having a good time, tossing the ball around, when Kohina-senpai and the other girls marched over, faces like thunder.
W-Wait, did something happen to Kanon?!
Tension crackled between us.
”Kohina-senpai, what’s wrong?”
At my words, Kohina-senpai, Inko-san behind her, and even Prime Minister Habu all looked grim.
”We’re in the same boat, you know? We’re just in the way and don’t matter!!”
I reached out to Kohina-senpai and gave her a firm handshake.
Guess I wasn’t the only one getting the axe.
With the numbers we had, we ended up playing Kusano ball in a big park nearby, past 4 in the morning.
