Volume 13 Chapter 251 Bernard, Papa’s Lonely War
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
With the help of the Holy Aqua Religion, I rescued my wife and daughter, escaped from the States, and returned to Japan.
”This is our new home, right?”
”Yeah, that’s right.”
We left behind my beloved car and sold most of our belongings. Using the money we brought, we bought a nice house with a garden through a real estate agent recommended by the Holy Aqua Religion.
I originally planned to rent, but I’m happy we bought a house at a much lower price than expected.
I wondered why it was so cheap. Apparently, it had been unsold for years because of a shrine behind the house.
’Please, never destroy this shrine.’
I remember the store clerk who helped us with the purchase warning us several times in strong words.
By the way, that clerk really looked like Yukishiro Emily. Well, there’s no way someone famous like her would work a part-time job here, so it’s probably just a resemblance. They say everyone has about three doppelgängers in the world.
I sat down in front of the shrine, folded my hands, and said,
”I’m Bernard Aylward, and we’ll be living here from today. Please take care of us.”
I urged my wife and three daughters to greet our new neighbors.
I’ve heard shrines like this, attached to houses, protect the people living there.
I folded my hands again in my mind and prayed that, when I’m not around, the shrine would protect my family in my place.
”Alright, everyone, let’s have a barbecue with the meat we just bought.”
Barbecues for celebrations, barbecues for farewells—that’s how it is in the States.
Even in Japan, that doesn’t change. Sushi and tempura are delicious, but barbecue is still the best. Most problems for people from the States are solved by barbecue.
And, honestly, I, Bernard Aylward, love barbecue more than three meals a day.
Fortunately, there’s a butcher shop nearby, so I can always enjoy it.
I started preparing the barbecue with practiced ease, grilling the expensive Japanese beef I bought.
Let me tell you, anyone who starts with vegetables is an amateur. Americans start with meat—and it’s all meat, from start to finish. Vegetables don’t even exist.
”Daddy, cool…”
Heh, at this moment, even my daughters, who usually call me cute because of my round face and bulging belly, look at me with sparkling, respectful eyes. That’s right. I’m not cute—I’m cool!
”Hehe, Japanese meat is delicious.”
”Yeah, Mama. But if we eat too much, we might gain weight.”
What are you saying? Unlike me, my wife and daughters are actually too thin.
But women worry more about their weight than men.
That’s why I’ve prepared something for times like these.
”Don’t worry. Papa bought Diet Coke, so drink that.”
Diet Coke has zero calories. No matter how much you drink, you won’t gain weight. Right?
This thoughtfulness is why I was valued at Star Lights.
Don’t underestimate Papa’s problem-solving skills—I’ve been cleaning up the messes of male celebrities for nearly 30 years. I give my wife and daughters a serious look.
I take the best piece of meat, place it on a small plate, and set it in front of the shrine.
In Japanese culture, this shows goodwill toward a good neighbor.
”Hmm?”
I feel the damp atmosphere from earlier is gone.
When I look up, the overcast sky clears, and a beam of light shines down on our new home.
”Papa, is the meat ready yet?”
”Oh, wait! Papa will grill it all for you!”
Alright, Papa’s going all out!
It’s been a while since all my daughters were together, so I’m putting my all into grilling the meat.
There’s been a lot going on, but spending time with the whole family like this isn’t so bad.
The Bible given to me by a member of the Holy Aqua Religion, with Shirogane Aqua’s sacred words, also says to always think positively.
After the barbecue, I clean up and polish the shrine.
”Papa, shall I help you?”
”Yeah, please.”
”Then, Papa, I’ll go refill the bucket with water.”
As expected, my daughters are good children.
I might be called overprotective, but I believe I raised them to be respectable daughters who could marry Shirogane Aqua without issues.
By the way, I heard Shirogane Aqua likes women with large breasts.
I also prefer women with big breasts—that’s why my wife has a large chest.
My eldest daughter Beatrice, second daughter Leticia, and third daughter Serafina all inherited my wife’s genes, and all of them have busts over 100cm.
If Shirogane Aqua also loves big breasts, I hope at least one of them has a little mishap with someone at some opportunity.
After polishing the shrine, I look up at the sky. The cloudy weather from earlier has turned into a clear blue sky, as if it were a lie.
”Let me tell you about what’s to come. First, I apologize for involving you all because of my mistake.”
”Papa, lift your face. In this case, Papa is not at fault.”
”Yes, that’s right, dear. Rather, I am sorry you lost the work you loved because of this.”
I shake my head in response to my wife’s words.
”No, it’s fine. A company that takes my beloved wife and precious daughters hostage is one I’d rather not be involved with.”
Of course, only some groups went on a rampage.
The president dismissed those groups, handed them over to the Holy Aqua Religion, and apologized and compensated us.
However, whether the president truly didn’t know about the incident is uncertain.
There’s a possibility he turned a blind eye intentionally, and there’s no evidence of his involvement, though it can’t be ruled out.
Still, kidnapping itself is common in this industry. The problem is that they took my family hostage during the kidnapping.
The president proposed I take a respectable position in exchange, but I rejected it.
”Besides, I believe I did everything I could at that company. From now on, I plan to start over in this country and chase my dreams again. I haven’t decided exactly what I’ll do yet, but…”
The reason I entered this industry was my passion to liven it up.
It was never to clean up someone else’s mess.
For that reason, I decided to start over from scratch in this country.
However, this is my dream.
What’s important to me is whether my wife and daughters can live happily.
That’s why I didn’t want my dream to make my family unhappy.
”I think it’s a good idea. Even after buying a house, we still have plenty of money left. I also got along with a neighbor who needs help with farm work, so I’ll start tomorrow. You can pursue your dream without worrying.”
”My honey…”
I hug my wife tightly. She is truly a wonderful woman—more than I deserve.
”Papa, I’m fine too. I contacted a friend in Japan, and they said someone they know is looking for help. I’ve arranged to work there.”
”I also have a job introduced by someone from the Holy Aqua Religion, so don’t worry, Papa.”
”Papa, I can transfer schools, and the real estate agent’s sister arranged a part-time job for me, so don’t worry.”
All three of them, before I knew it… Ugh, I feel my eyes getting hot, sensing my children’s growth.
They are truly wonderful daughters—more than I deserve.
”Thank you, everyone. Papa will do his best.”
I renew my resolve. That night, the moon was clear and visible without any clouds—a beautiful night—but I couldn’t sleep because of the burning heat of my own passion.
”Ah… Papa, good morning.”
I woke up early and headed to the washstand, where my second daughter, Leticia, was drying her hair after a shower.
Compared to my eldest daughter, Beatrice, who is reliable but a bit absent-minded, and my youngest daughter, Serafina, who is kind and gentle, Leticia is quiet and somewhat introverted.
”What are you doing up so early?”
”Ah, thinking about the future, I just couldn’t sit still. I thought I’d go out and look for things I can do.”
It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this full of vitality.
I can feel just how fired up I am.
”I see, Papa. Good luck.”
”Yeah!”
I tightened my tie, then left the house with a beef sandwich I made using yesterday’s grilled meat.
Oh, I should probably greet the shrine before leaving.
After praying for my family’s safety, I got into my bright red sports car and headed out.
”There’s still some time left.”
I parked the car, went into a convenience store, and bought some newspapers and entertainment magazines that caught my eye.
I then stopped by a nearby café, ordered a strong cup of tea, and spread out the newspaper at a terrace seat.
