To Aqua’s downcast expression, Marin said gently. “Aqua-chan… I know it’s great that you have your energy back, but try not to worry Mom and the doctors too much, okay?”

I nodded along to Marin-san’s words. When Aqua disappeared from the hospital, I honestly felt like I wasn’t even alive. And I was scared he’d just disappear from in front of me again, y’know?
”I’ll keep all my energy confined to the bed!” Aqua declared, practically glowing with misplaced enthusiasm.
Hey! This guy isn’t sorry at all! And what happened to all that energy from a second ago?! Don’t go all red-faced and fidgety! This is how he operates—don’t you dare fall for his tricks!
While the girls were all falling for Useless Aqua’s smooth moves, Toa-chan was the only one giving him the dead-fish stare.
”Hey, Aqua. You’re not actually sorry, are you?”

”That’s Toa-chan for you.” I crossed my arms and nodded approvingly.
And as if to pile on, Akocchi stepped forward too. “Toa-chan’s right. Aqua-kun, you really are always so reckless… you shouldn’t make everyone worry so much.”

I was cheering her on from behind when Akocchi suddenly spun around and gave me the same look.
”Yukari, and I’m talking to you too, you know,” she said, stepping closer.
”Huh?!”
I jumped onto the bed, taking a seat right next to Aqua, my knees folding beneath me like I’d been caught red-handed.
”Just because you’re getting discharged soon doesn’t mean you’re off the hook, Yukari! You’re still supposed to be resting! And unlike Aqua-kun here, who’s still a minor, you’re a full-grown adult—so at the very least, get permission before you go running off!”
”…Yes, ma’am,” I muttered.

Kaede, watching me getting lectured right next to Aqua, covered her mouth to hold back her laugh. But Kotono-san and Announcer Onidzuka both gave her sharp looks.
”Speaking of which, Kaede-san, weren’t you running through the hospital halls earlier?” Kotono-san asked, her voice deceptively light.

”Wait up! Kanon~!” Aqua called, scrambling after her.

Honestly. Complete idiots, the lot of them.

I decided to head back to my own room and crash.

A few days later…
Along with everyone else, I was discharged from the hospital.
”Hold on! Why are you getting discharged at the same time as us when you only started rehab two weeks after we did?! That doesn’t make any sense!” I protested.

I parted ways with Aqua as he headed off for his run and made my way to the main bathhouse. Just as I reached the entrance, I ran straight into Maron.
”Oh, you’re heading to the bath too?” I asked.
”Mm-hmm. And hey—congrats on getting discharged.”
We went in together and started undressing side by side.
Huh. I’d never really looked at another girl’s naked body this closely before… but this is the kind of figure Aqua likes, isn’t it?

I turned away from Inko. And on the other side, Maron was grinning at me.
Seriously!! I looked away from both of them, trying to escape their stares.
”Hey, Yukari. You don’t have to be honest if you don’t want to,” Maron offered gently.
”Huh?”
I blinked at Maron’s advice.
”She’s right. You’re fine just as you are, Yukari. Aqua likes you for who you are,” Inko said, her voice carrying that familiar warmth.
”And aye,” Inko muttered a quiet, “Sorry about teasing you earlier.”
Like I cared about that. I teased them just as much. That’s what friends did—no holding back.

”I don’t have to hide anything in front of Aqua either. And I love that he still accepts me—even with all my flaws.”

”Uh… yeah.”
That was… well, debatable. But I guess to Aqua, I was still a girl, too. I mean, he… you know… used me as that kind of target for his needs…
”Hey, everyone! How long are you gonna keep washing?! Let’s all get in the bath!” Kaede called out.
”Coming! C’mon, you two, get up. Let’s go!” Inko replied.
The five of us lined up and got into the bath together.
Ahh… A home bath beats a hospital one any day. It felt like all my worries were washing away. The five of us chatted away about our usual nonsense.
”I’m getting out first. Oh, and everyone—thanks for visiting,” I said.
As I left the bath, I glanced at the spare underwear Emily-chan had packed for me.
…It wasn’t my fault! This was the only underwear Emily-chan had prepared, so I had no choice!! I mentally made excuses as I changed into what she’d left for me.
