Volume 14 Chapter 456 Kohina Yukari, You Sure Like That Honesty-Challenged Guy

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Ugh… why’d I have to go and fall for a guy like this?

When I brought Aqua back to the hospital, the people who’d been waiting for him dragged him straight to his room.

”Aqua-kun… you’re supposed to be resting right now,” Tamamo-sensei said, her voice carrying that gentle-but-firm doctor tone.

”And on top of that, you did a backflip? What were you thinking?” Maria-sensei added, her eyes narrowing.

Surrounded by doctors Tamamo-sensei and Maria-sensei, Aqua sat on the bed with a serious face, knees tucked beneath him. Pfft—look at him getting chewed out. What a complete idiot. I mean, he didn’t just sneak out of the hospital—he was dancing too. Serves him right.

”I wasn’t thinking at all…” Aqua mumbled, his voice trailing off.

Uh-huh. You and Kaede’s brains are basically just decoration anyway. And despite all this, nobody’s given up on him. Everyone spoils him way too much, I swear.

To Aqua’s downcast expression, Marin said gently. “Aqua-chan… I know it’s great that you have your energy back, but try not to worry Mom and the doctors too much, okay?”

 ”…Okay,” he replied.

I nodded along to Marin-san’s words. When Aqua disappeared from the hospital, I honestly felt like I wasn’t even alive. And I was scared he’d just disappear from in front of me again, y’know?

”I’ll keep all my energy confined to the bed!” Aqua declared, practically glowing with misplaced enthusiasm.

Hey! This guy isn’t sorry at all! And what happened to all that energy from a second ago?! Don’t go all red-faced and fidgety! This is how he operates—don’t you dare fall for his tricks!

While the girls were all falling for Useless Aqua’s smooth moves, Toa-chan was the only one giving him the dead-fish stare.

”Hey, Aqua. You’re not actually sorry, are you?”

 Gulp!

”That’s Toa-chan for you.” I crossed my arms and nodded approvingly.

And as if to pile on, Akocchi stepped forward too. “Toa-chan’s right. Aqua-kun, you really are always so reckless… you shouldn’t make everyone worry so much.”

That’s right! Tell him off, Akocchi!

I was cheering her on from behind when Akocchi suddenly spun around and gave me the same look.

”Yukari, and I’m talking to you too, you know,” she said, stepping closer.

 ”Huh?!”

I jumped onto the bed, taking a seat right next to Aqua, my knees folding beneath me like I’d been caught red-handed.

”Just because you’re getting discharged soon doesn’t mean you’re off the hook, Yukari! You’re still supposed to be resting! And unlike Aqua-kun here, who’s still a minor, you’re a full-grown adult—so at the very least, get permission before you go running off!”

 ”…Yes, ma’am,” I muttered.

Hey! This is YOUR fault I got scolded too! Ugh!

Kaede, watching me getting lectured right next to Aqua, covered her mouth to hold back her laugh. But Kotono-san and Announcer Onidzuka both gave her sharp looks.

”Speaking of which, Kaede-san, weren’t you running through the hospital halls earlier?” Kotono-san asked, her voice deceptively light.

”Mo·ri·ka·wa~!” Announcer Onidzuka bellowed. “How many times do I have to tell you not to run in the corridors?!”

Pfft—hahaha! See? That’s what you get for laughing at me!

Wait, no—why are you getting on the bed too?! It’s already cramped enough!

Somehow, Aqua, me, Kaede—and Emily-chan too, making it four of us—were all lined up in a row on that hospital bed, sitting seiza-style like we were in some kind of disciplinary assembly.

”Um… Emily-chan, why are you sitting seiza?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

”Well, you see…” Emily-chan scratched the back of her head sheepishly. “I sort of… posted that video of Kanon blushing from the indirect kiss on social media. And now she won’t talk to me…”

What? That’s literally 100% your fault.

Aqua and Emily-chan exchanged a deadpan look and high-fived without a word.

Hey!! You two are clearly not sorry at all!!

Thanks to those two idiots, I got dragged into the mess too, and Kaede and I ended up getting lectured for a solid hour right along with them.

”Alright, we’ll be heading out now,” one of the girls announced.

”Make sure you actually rest, okay?”

Once everyone had finished their round of scolding, they all filed out one by one.

”Morikawa… you’re coming with me. This is a perfect opportunity to have a little chat about… everything, don’t you think?” Announcer Onidzuka said, gripping Kaede’s shoulder.

”Excellent idea. Kaede-san, don’t worry—we have all the time in the world,” Kotono-san added with a sweet smile that promised nothing but pain.

 ”Eeeek~!”

 Yeah… she’s dead.

Emily-chan and I clasped our hands together in silent prayer as Kaede was dragged off by the two announcers.

By the way, Emily-chan—shouldn’t you be the one panicking right about now? And Useless Aqua—don’t just stand there staring into space!

I jerked my chin toward the door. “Hey. Look over there. Yeah, that way.”

Kanon was hovering just outside the room, giving off a “please pay attention to me” energy.

”Tsu~n!” she huffed, flipping her hair and storming off down the hallway.

See? Both of you. You’d better go after her. You’re the ones who’ll be dealing with the fallout later.

”Wait up! Kanon~!” Aqua called, scrambling after her.

”Kanon, it’s not what you think! Let me explain!” Emily-chan shouted, chasing after them both.

Honestly. Complete idiots, the lot of them.

 ”Ugh… I’m exhausted.”

I decided to head back to my own room and crash.

* * *

 A few days later…

Along with everyone else, I was discharged from the hospital.

”Hold on! Why are you getting discharged at the same time as us when you only started rehab two weeks after we did?! That doesn’t make any sense!” I protested.

”Kohina-senpai… don’t sweat the little details,” someone said with a dismissive wave.

Grrrr! My brilliant plan—to leave the hospital first with everyone else and leave him behind all alone to sit alone—had completely backfired! Read the room, you idiots!

We all piled into the bus that had been arranged for us and headed back to the Shirogane Kingdom.

”Ahhhh, home sweet home!” Aqua threw his arms up in celebration.

Phew. Hopefully things would settle down now. I glanced up toward the terrace where my room was—

 ”Wait—huh?!”

Hold. Hold on just a second.

Why is there construction going on outside my room?!

I was still frozen in shock when Emily-chan popped out from the building, wearing a yellow hard hat.

”Awww, I’ve got some sad news for you, Kohina-paisen,” she said, putting on a serious face.

”Turns out, the people who attacked us used firearms, and… well, your room took a direct hit. Pure bad luck. So it’s currently undergoing renovations—completely unusable right now.”

 ”Excuse me?!”

I’m going to hunt those bastards down and make them pay, so you’d better take me to wherever you’ve locked them up right now! I assume they’re rotting in some cell at the Saint Aqua Church headquarters or something!

”So, here’s the deal, Kohina-paisen. For the time being… you’ll be using Aqua-sama’s room.”

 ”What?!”

Aqua’s face went completely blank at Emily-chan’s announcement.

Hmph. Well, if that’s how it’s going to be, I guess there’s no helping it.

”Come on. No point standing around complaining. Let’s go, Aqua.”

 ”Wait—come on?! Hold on, Kohina-senpai!”

I grabbed my things and headed straight for Aqua’s room.

Oh… they brought my stuff over from my room. Good. My favorite plushies, my T-shirts, and even the gift he gave me—all safe.

I picked up a sticky note that had been left on top of one of my plushies.

[To Kohina-paisen. I fixed up some of the torn parts before I got discharged. Guhehe!]

Wait—where?! I can’t even tell where the repairs were made…

I offered a silent thank-you to Emily-chan in my heart.

[Oh, and I left a bag with everything you’ll need for cohabitation. Use it well. Guhehe!]

See? Emily-chan is so thoughtful. It’s probably full of sanitary products and makeup stuff, right?

Thinking that, I untied the bag and peeked inside.

 ”WHAT THE—what is this?!”

Why are there sexy underwear and cosplay outfits in here?!

Aqua must’ve heard my reaction because he turned to look at me. “Kohina-senpai, what’s wrong? If it’s a cockroach, leave it to me!”

 ”B—no! It’s nothing! I’m fine! Go away!”

I shooed Aqua away, tied the bag’s strings back up as tightly as I could, and shoved it deep into the back of the closet.

Honestly… Emily-chan would be perfect if she just didn’t go overboard with this extra “thoughtfulness” of hers!

”Alright, I’m gonna go take a bath,” I announced.

”Nice~ I’ll go for a quick jog, then hit the bath too,” Aqua replied.

I parted ways with Aqua as he headed off for his run and made my way to the main bathhouse. Just as I reached the entrance, I ran straight into Maron.

”Oh, you’re heading to the bath too?” I asked.

”Mm-hmm. And hey—congrats on getting discharged.”

We went in together and started undressing side by side.

Huh. I’d never really looked at another girl’s naked body this closely before… but this is the kind of figure Aqua likes, isn’t it?

”What? What’s with the look?” Maron asked, catching my stare.

 ”Nothing. Just… thinking you’ve got big b**bs, that’s all.”

Maron’s face flushed bright red. “Ugh, don’t say it like that! I’ve actually been eating a bit too much lately, so my belly’s gotten softer too. But you… Yukari, you’ve gotten thinner, haven’t you?”

”Have I?” I checked myself in the nearby mirror. Hmm… I’ve never really paid attention since I’ve always been small, but yeah—maybe I have lost a little weight since the space mission…

”Actually, I heard you can grow a few centimeters after a space mission too,” Maron said casually.

 ”No way!”

I scrambled to check my height. Three centimeters? Maybe even five?! I was buzzing with excitement as I stared at the numbers on the digital scale—

 ”I didn’t grow at all!”

”Yeah, apparently it only lasts a few days to a few weeks before you go back to normal. So you’re probably already back to your original height.”

UGHHHHHHHHHH! I was this close to getting bigger than that useless Aqua—tall enough to finally look down on him!

 ”…Whatever.”

Defeated, I stepped into the bath proper, gave myself a rinse, and went over to wash my body. And who should already be there but Inko.

”Why are you here?” I asked flatly.

”Hey, ain’t no rule says I can’t be. Look over there—they’re at it too.”

Maron and I followed Inko’s gaze to see Iria and Kaede swimming full sprint across the pool inside the bathhouse.

Seriously, those two have way too much energy… especially you, Kaede. Do you even remember you just got discharged TODAY?!

Why’d she even stay in the hospital that long anyway? She could’ve gotten out right away. Not that I got it—but whatever, it wasn’t worth thinking about. I told myself that and shut my brain off, starting to wash myself.

”Ahhh~ That feels so much better, for real.”

I glanced at Inko and Maron’s chests beside me. Hmm. I was pretty well-endowed myself, but sandwiched between those two? Yeah, not so much.

”Hmm? Yukari, you checkin’ out my chest or what?” Inko asked.

”Nothing… I was just wondering if Aqua preferred the bigger ones, that’s all.”

Inko’s eyes went wide, and she exchanged a look with Maron over my head.

Hey! What’s with that reaction?! If you’ve got something to say, say it!

 ”Oh-hoh. Mmm-hmm. Hee~”

”…If you’ve got something to say, say it!”

I pouted at Inko, who was making weird faces at me.

”Yukari… just be honest with yourself, like!” Inko urged, her tone warm but insistent.

”If I could be honest, I would be! Ah—”

I turned away from Inko. And on the other side, Maron was grinning at me.

Seriously!! I looked away from both of them, trying to escape their stares.

”Hey, Yukari. You don’t have to be honest if you don’t want to,” Maron offered gently.

 ”Huh?”

 I blinked at Maron’s advice.

”She’s right. You’re fine just as you are, Yukari. Aqua likes you for who you are,” Inko said, her voice carrying that familiar warmth.

”And aye,” Inko muttered a quiet, “Sorry about teasing you earlier.”

Like I cared about that. I teased them just as much. That’s what friends did—no holding back.

”You know that, right, Yukari? Aqua accepts us no matter what. That’s why I love how easy it is to be around him—no walls, no pretending,” Maron added.

”I don’t have to hide anything in front of Aqua either. And I love that he still accepts me—even with all my flaws.”

I nodded quietly at their words.

 Yeah… You’re right.

He accepted even someone like me, someone who was hated by other girls. Most guys would’ve kept their distance. But he always treated me normally.

Because he was that kind of person, I…

 ”Thanks. Both of you.”

As I thanked them, a little embarrassed, they both flashed me bright grins. Inko leaned in close and pointed at Kaede swimming behind us.

”Look. Even someone like Kaede—Aqua turned her into just another fragile girl. At this point, anything’s possible. He literally declared in front of everyone, to the whole world, that his broken bone was definitely a meteorite’s fault—because no way a cute girl like Kaede could’ve broken his arm! What guy does that? There’s no one else like him…” Inko said, her Northern accent making the story even more colorful.

 ”Uh… yeah.”

That was… well, debatable. But I guess to Aqua, I was still a girl, too. I mean, he… you know… used me as that kind of target for his needs…

”Hey, everyone! How long are you gonna keep washing?! Let’s all get in the bath!” Kaede called out.

”Coming! C’mon, you two, get up. Let’s go!” Inko replied.

The five of us lined up and got into the bath together.

Ahh… A home bath beats a hospital one any day. It felt like all my worries were washing away. The five of us chatted away about our usual nonsense.

”I’m getting out first. Oh, and everyone—thanks for visiting,” I said.

As I left the bath, I glanced at the spare underwear Emily-chan had packed for me.

…It wasn’t my fault! This was the only underwear Emily-chan had prepared, so I had no choice!! I mentally made excuses as I changed into what she’d left for me.

Seriously. She’d even prepared a robe to go over it—she was only thoughtful in the weirdest ways!!

I looked at myself in the nearby mirror.

”Haah… Fine. I get it. I lose for falling for a guy like him! So I’ll make my peace with it. Yukari!!”

I told myself that, left the bathhouse, and headed to his room.

 Bonus

”I mean, we’ve got rooms coming out our ears, but—hehehe~” Emily said with a lecherous grin.

”As expected of Emily-san,” Kotono replied calmly.

”Oh? Today’s Hoge-lar Wave reading is 85%, huh? I see, I see. No wonder even sharp Yukari didn’t catch on!” Kaede observed.

”So… why are you in my room, Emily-senpai?” Kanon asked, clearly suspicious.

”Obviously because my room, right next to Kohina-senpai’s, got caught in the blast too!!” Emily declared dramatically.

 ”…Ah.” Everyone responded in unison.

”Anyway, Kanon! Let me share your bed!!” Emily demanded.

”Wait! You just said there were plenty of rooms! Then go use one of those! Ngh!” Kanon protested.

”Hehehe~ While Aqua-sama’s getting stolen by Kohina-senpai, let’s comfort each other’s lonely, aching bodies!” Emily cackled.

”I’m not doing that!! Ah—!” Kanon shrieked.

”Take it easy, Emily…” Kaede said as she slid the door shut.

”Emily-san, don’t go overboard,” Kotono added as she slid the door shut as well.

”Kaede-senpai!? Even you, Nee-san!? Why are you both stepping outside and closing the door!? Help me! Uggghhh!” Kanon wailed.

 —

 Summary:

Yukari’s internal narration drives the hospital scolding scene, where Aqua’s reckless backflip earns him a group lecture, but the real tension comes when Akocchi turns the scolding on Yukari herself. The story shifts to forced cohabitation when Emily says Yukari’s room was destroyed in an attack, leading to an awkward shared living arrangement. Yukari’s hidden love for Aqua clashes with her pride, ending in the bathhouse scene where she worries about her body after the space mission.

Yukari questions Aqua’s too-long hospital stay while bathing with friends. Inko and Maron reassure her that Aqua accepts her as she is, leading to Yukari’s emotional breakthrough. She prepares to visit his room, getting ready to be honest.

 —

Maron mentions that space missions can temporarily increase height by a few centimeters, but it reverts within days to weeks.

The Saint Aqua Church is referenced as having headquarters where attackers might be imprisoned.

Yukari compares her body to Maron’s in the bath, revealing insecurity about whether Aqua prefers Maron’s figure.

The group dynamic involves layered scolding—first Aqua, then Yukari, then Kaede—showing the social hierarchy and concern for each other.

Iria and Kaede swim full sprint in the bathhouse pool immediately after discharge—showing their boundless energy and disregard for medical advice.

Yukari’s internal thoughts establish her tsundere personality early, with “I told myself” becoming a recurring pattern.

Inko speaks Kansai-ben, rendered as Northern English working-class speech for warmth and directness.

The bath scene serves as both physical and emotional vulnerability, allowing honest conversations.

Yukari’s self-confession in the mirror mirrors the earlier moment where she avoided honesty.

Emily’s comedic scheming in the omake provides tonal relief after Yukari’s emotional climax.

”Hoge-lar Wave” refers to a measurement of character awareness or perception.

Nocturne references indicate this is from Syosetu’s adult section, with explicit content separated.
