Chapter 58 The Fourth Morning ①
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”If we get caught, let’s just own up to it and apologize,” Jane said.
It was the morning of my fourth day in this world. I was currently agonizing over the fact that I’d already broken my promise to the Class President when Jane tossed that line out with casual indifference. Whether she had simply decided to stop caring or was actively trying to provoke me, she was currently sharing my morning bath.
”Is it really that simple?” I asked.
”It isn’t a matter of being ‘good’ or ‘bad,’ Anma-sama,¹” Jane replied. “When a man and a woman with pent-up desires are sequestered in the same room, this outcome is practically a foregone conclusion. Besides, it’s not as if I intended to seduce you.”
She said the words, but she wouldn’t look me in the eye. It was a total lie. It’s a bit hard to claim you aren’t being a temptress when you’re currently pressing your bare skin right up against mine.
”Do you really think she’ll buy that?” I asked.
”Whether she does or not is irrelevant,” Jane said. “If she’s so frustrated by it, she should simply come stay in Anma-sama’s room herself. If you find it too awkward to invite her, I would be more than happy to extend the invitation on your behalf.”
”Please, let’s not,” I muttered. “That’s just asking for a fight. And what would you even do if she actually took you up on it?”
”I would welcome her, of course,” Jane said. “As fellow women who will belong to Anma-sama, I am sure we can get along desuwa.²“
”I wonder if you can…” I said.
The common sense in this world was so far removed from Japan that I couldn’t even wrap my head around it. This was going to end in a disaster, wasn’t it?
”There is no use in fretting,” Jane said, standing up. “We shall simply have to go for broke and see what happens. Don’t worry. No matter what comes to pass, Corinna and I are on your side.”
”Thanks,” I said. “Well, I’ll try my best to keep it on the down-low for now.”
Or so I thought.
”Ah…” I gasped.
”A-A-Anma-kun!?³” the Class President stammered.
I hadn’t expected to run into her the moment I stepped into the hallway. The Class President had just emerged from her own room, and seeing me there seemed to short-circuit her brain. She was stammering and flustered – a far cry from her usual, composed self. A deep, vivid crimson began to climb up her neck and onto her cheeks.
”Morning, Class President,” I said.
”M-Morning,” she replied. “No, wait, I mean – just come over here for a second! Ena-san, stay right there!”
”Understood,” Ena-san replied.
With Ena-san’s voice fading behind us, the Class President grabbed my arm and dragged me toward the stairwell. Once we were secluded, she leaned in so close our noses were practically touching. This was it – the serious love distance.⁴
”Anma-kun! About yesterday… just forget it, okay!?” she demanded.
”About yesterday?” I asked.
Which part did she mean? The part where she told me to be prepared for today? The part where she was stroking my chinpo?⁵ If she wanted me to forget her warning about not letting Jane seduce me, I was more than happy to oblige – especially considering what had just happened in the bath.
”All of it!” she hissed.
”Excuse me?” I asked.
”Everything about the massage yesterday! Forget it!” she cried. “And even if you can’t forget, you have to keep it a secret! Please!”
Seriously, everyone in this palace wants me to keep a secret. I felt like I’d accumulated a lifetime’s worth of classified information in the span of twenty-four hours.
”Yeah, okay. I get it,” I said. “I won’t tell a soul.”
”I don’t just want you to stay quiet, I want you to forget it!” she insisted.
”That’s asking the impossible, Class President,” I replied. “You were… so incredibly lewd. There’s no way I could ever forget that.”
Forget that look on her face? No chance. Just the memory of it was already making me hard.
Her face turned an even deeper shade of red as she looked down at her feet. Seeing her react this way – so vulnerable and cute – triggered a sudden, mischievous impulse in me. Maybe it was just male instinct. Call it childish if you want, but I couldn’t help myself.
”Tell you what, Class President,” I said. “I’ll keep our secret. But I’m really looking forward to tonight.”
”Huh? To what?” she asked.
”Well, if you haven’t changed your mind by then, you’re going to make me feel good, right?” I asked. “Give me your answer tonight during the massage. I’ll be waiting.”
”Ah… gulp.”
I pressed a finger to her lips before she could protest. “See you tonight,” I whispered. She gave a small, shaky nod, her face practically glowing with heat.
I took the Class President’s hand and led her toward the dining hall. She followed me submissively, without a hint of resistance. It was a relief – maybe “going for broke” wouldn’t result in a total crash and burn after all.
When we reached the spot where we’d left Ena-san, Kitabayashi Ai was there too. I didn’t even hear her arrive. Why were only Ena-san and Kitabayashi Ai there? Had Jane already gone ahead?
”Oh! Prez, Anma-kun! Mornin’!” Kitabayashi Ai chirped.
”Morning, Ai-chan,” I said.
”Morning,” the Class President said, trying to regain her footing. “Kitabayashi, what are you doing here?”
”Hmm? Well, I saw Ena-san standing here all by herself and wondered what was up,” Kitabayashi Ai replied. “Then I saw you and Anma-kun whispering in the distance over there.”
”You were watching us?” the Class President asked. “You could have just gone ahead to breakfast.”
It wasn’t like we’d made plans to walk together, so she was clearly just being a busybody.
”I was actually gonna sneak closer to listen in, but Ena-san told me no, so I just waited here!” Kitabayashi Ai said.
Crisis averted. Thank you for stopping her, Ena-san. If she’d heard that conversation, I’d be dead. But wait – where was Jane?
”Ah, Jane has already headed to Her Highness’s room,” Ena-san explained. “She was summoned to come quickly. We should head to the dining hall as well; I believe breakfast is ready.”
”Right. Let’s go,” the Class President said.
”Yeah… but man, I’m curious~” Kitabayashi Ai said, her eyes twinkling with mischief as she looked at us.
”What is it?” the Class President asked, looking suspicious.
”I mean, look at you two! Walking out here holding hands, you’re such great friends~” Kitabayashi Ai teased. “I think I’m gonna have to hear about this in detail~”
”Wh-What?! No! You’ve got it all wrong!” the Class President cried. “This is… this is just a coincidence!”
”Yeah,” I added quickly, letting go of her hand. “Class President was just acting a little spacey, so I was leading her along. It’s not like anything happened.”
I felt a twinge of guilt at the “coincidence” excuse. But apparently, the Class President didn’t like my “spacey” comment either. She shot me a glare.
”Spacey?! What do you mean by that!?” she snapped. “Anma-kun reached out like he was dying to hold my hand, so I was just being nice! It was his idea!”
”But Prez, you accepted it, and you were letting him pull you along the whole time~” Kitabayashi Ai sang. “If you hated it, you would’ve swatted him away, right? Hyaaa~ you guys are so close! How long has this been going on? Have you been hiding this the whole time? Come on, spill!”
This was bad. Kitabayashi Ai’s curiosity was at full power. The demon of love talk had awakened before I’d even had my coffee. Time to bail.
”Anyway, let’s get to the dining hall,” I said. “We shouldn’t keep the others waiting.”
”Yes, absolutely,” the Class President agreed. “Ena-san, let’s go quickly!”
”Ahahaha. Yes, of course,” Ena-san replied.
”Hey! Don’t you dare ignore me! You guys are totally in sync!” Kitabayashi Ai shouted after us.
””We are NOT!”” we shouted back.
