”I have something to talk about too.”
Now that many misunderstandings have been cleared up, it’s easier to talk.
”Can you please delete the photos you took without asking?”
”I’ll delete them all, don’t worry!”
She took her smartphone out of her coat draped over the stool and started to operate it right there. She was holding a glass in one hand and drinking quickly. Her attitude changed way too fast.
”And also…”
”What, Shuu-kun? I’m not doing anything else, you know?”
She spoke in a cold tone without even looking at me.
”Well, Risa-san’s contact info.”
”Oh, I get it. I’m deleting Rokushoushio-san’s contact info right in front of you. …Is this good enough?”
She deleted the contact from her phone book and also blocked and deleted the ID from the messaging app.
”Seriously, a high school student who’s underage and looking for a job… You look way too good to be true. If you get a girlfriend and try to control her too much, she’ll run away, you know? You should take it easy.”
She ordered another martini, and it sounded like she wanted it to be a strong cocktail. It’s great to drink what you like without worrying about what others think.
”I have a girlfriend, but I’m not controlling her at all.”
”You seem pretty relaxed, huh?”
”I don’t need to control her. Her job is tough, and she works in a place with a lot of women, so there aren’t really any chances to meet new people.”
”Oh, I see. That makes sense.”
While I understood, I finished my cold martini.
”That’s not a Bloody Mary, right?”
I casually glanced at my glass on the table and said that.
”I’m still a high school student, you know. If I add vodka to this, it would be a Bloody Mary.”
”Ugh… I don’t want to hear the word ‘high school student’ anymore. It’s annoying to be reminded of my mistakes.”
Is this turning into a drinking session? I’ve said what I needed to say, and I want to go home. But Banzushima-san stopped Sakauchi-san (coworker) and ordered a snow-style margarita with tequila.
Are we still drinking…?
’It’s later than usual, are you okay?’
I got a notification on my phone, and it was from Risa-san. It’s really rare for her to message me first.
She must have finished her night shift and came home early from her day job.
I texted back that I was “still at work” and that “a drunk customer was bothering me, so I probably wouldn’t be able to leave for a while.”
After about 3 more drinks, she finally said she was “going home.” I was finally free.
When the bill came, I said, “Oh… I don’t have any money.”
”Are you kidding me!? How did you even get here? You didn’t walk all the way from that tower apartment, did you?”
”I have my IC on my phone, so I didn’t bring my wallet.”
”Ugh… I can’t believe this. You say you’re a student, but you definitely have the potential to be a freeloader. I’ll pay for you this time as a consultation fee.”
She says that even though she’s just like me.
”I really got fooled by your fresh and honest-looking appearance.”
Reluctantly, she took out her wallet and paid for what I drank too.
”Thanks for the meal. If you have more questions…”
”Never again!”
And then── even though I properly thanked her, I ended up making her mad.
