”Risa-san, can I ask you something?”
From what I noticed in the kitchen, it seems Risa-san isn’t eating at home. Since she works late, I thought she would have breakfast at home.
But it looks like that’s not the case.
”Don’t you eat breakfast?”
”Nope. On workdays, I eat breakfast and dinner out. So, I was thinking, how about we go out for breakfast together tomorrow?”
”Sure, let’s go together.”
At this rate, it looks like I’ll be eating out for a while. Should I get more part-time work?
”School starts at 8:30, right? I wonder which places open early in the morning…”
I walked away from the kitchen and started looking on my phone at the low table in the living room.
”The place you usually go to is fine.”
”Well, the cafés around here only open at 8, so you wouldn’t make it to school on time.”
”That’s okay. For the first class tomorrow, I have enough credits.”
”Found it! Do you prefer fast food or a beef bowl place?”
She wasn’t listening to me. And for an early morning date, we’re going to fast food or a beef bowl place instead of a café… In this case, I guess I should choose “fast food,” right?
”Then, fast…”
”I wonder what breakfast is like at the beef bowl place?”
(…That was close.)
I’m glad I didn’t answer before. I almost disappointed Risa-san.
”I don’t know? I’ve never been there for breakfast. Want to try it?”
”Really? Yay! I’m interested, but I felt awkward going alone as a girl.”
It’s been a while since I woke up at 5 AM. Can I even wake up that early?
”I’m looking forward to it. I need to sleep early.”
Risa-san put her phone back on the low table and turned around, saying, “Oh, by the way.”
”If you want to take a shower, the bathroom is on the second floor.”
”Second floor?”
The second floor in an apartment? I didn’t understand what Risa-san meant.
”Yeah. This house is a maisonette. You see that wall over there? There’s a staircase behind it that goes to the second floor.”
All I see where Risa-san is pointing is the living room wall.
”My room is also on the second floor, so come with me. I’ll show you.”
She seems to be telling me where the bathroom is. For a moment, I thought she was inviting me for something else, but I quickly realized I was mistaken. There’s no way she’d do that before a long shift at work. Still, a hidden staircase…
Is this place a ninja house?
