Volume 4 Chapter 23 Risa’s Complaint
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
”Risa-san?”
”I can’t right now! Leave me alone! Please!”
Risa-san really won’t come out of her room, just like her parents said. But since she replied, it seems like she might listen to me a little.
”I’m sorry for playing the recording for your parents without asking.”
”…”
I apologized because this whole situation started because of me. Now it’s up to Risa-san. I just have to wait until she calms down.
(I need to stay calm.)
I take a deep breath. A minute passes, but there’s still no reply from Risa-san. I hold back the urge to explain myself and the anxiety building up inside me.
(This is bad. How long should I wait here?)
Waiting outside her room isn’t helping; there’s no conversation, and I can’t see her. I start to worry that the talk about marriage might disappear, and my thoughts spiral into negativity.
Before I lose my cool, I should go to where the parents are instead of waiting outside Risa-san’s room.
”Okay, Risa-san. That’s all I wanted to say.”
”Wait! Shuu! Don’t go!”
The door opens, and Risa-san appears in her kimono. She looks different, and I can’t take my eyes off her.
”Why are you wearing a kimono!?”
As I say something silly, she almost shuts the door on me, so I quickly stick my arm and one leg in the gap. It hurts a bit being stuck in the door.
”Oh, sorry! Are you okay?”
”…Not okay.”
It’s not a big deal, but this is the only way Risa-san will talk to me. I know it’s sneaky, but I really wanted to see her face and talk. You can’t understand someone’s feelings just by their voice or words.
”I’m really sorry!”
Even though I did it on purpose, she doesn’t doubt me at all. It feels like I’m tricking her.
”It might turn red. You might need ice.”
”I can’t cool it down well, so can you help me, Risa-san?”
”Okay, I got it.”
I follow Risa-san as she goes to get the ice. A gentle, fresh scent, different from perfume, follows her.
(Risa-san in a kimono is nice.)
On the way, we pass the room where the parents are waiting, and I pull Risa-san into a room as a trick.
”Huh? Why…?”
”We can talk about that later. We need to discuss this first. That’s why I came.”
Seeing the situation in the room, I pull Risa-san closer as she tries to escape.
”Wait! I’m not ready yet…”
I turn my back to the parents and hug Risa-san near the door. I don’t want her to lock herself away again.
”Should I sit next to you?”
I think of a way to calm Risa-san down, who is blushing.
”Ugh… I’m still embarrassed, but if you’re next to me… it’s okay.”
We change the seating arrangement so we’re facing each other. I also tell everyone not to mention the “recording of Risa-san’s marriage announcement,” and they agree.
I force Risa-san, who is looking down in embarrassment, to sit at the discussion table. We start with greetings, and finally, we can move forward.
The discussion goes mostly the way Risa-san wants. She signs and stamps the marriage papers and hands everything to her parents, who plan to stay in Japan. Just as we’re about to decide on the next steps, like submitting the papers in April next year──
”We’ll be able to see our grandchild next fall, and I’m looking forward to it.”
My parents say something unnecessary.
”…Shuu? Why? You said you wouldn’t say anything until the last minute!”
”Oh… sorry.”
I completely forgot to keep it a secret.
”…Grandchild?”
Risa-san’s parents freeze. Silence fills the room, creating a tense atmosphere.
”Risa-san, are you pregnant!? This is serious! You should stop studying abroad and come back to Japan!”
”I’m not coming back! I won’t stop studying or working! The discussion is over, I’m leaving!”
This is bad. Risa-san is way more aggressive than I expected. Her dad is silent. How am I supposed to handle this situation…?
