Volume 4 Chapter 8 Thank You Gift
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Since it was almost time for our appointment, we took the subway to visit Elishira-san’s house in Manhattan.
(Her house is on the roof of a building…)
I heard it’s called a penthouse. It’s pretty unusual to build a house in a place like this. From there, I looked at the view around me.
The buildings in Manhattan were glowing orange in the sunset, making it feel like I was looking at a beautiful photo. Sometimes, the light would reflect off the windows, making it really bright.
”Welcome, you two. This is my daughter, Arshi.”
Elishira-san and a girl who looked just like her greeted us. She told us she’s a college student studying in New York City. She also said to call her “Arshi.”
For some reason, we were taken to a greenhouse. Surrounded by all kinds of plants, Elishira-san and Arshi-san were grilling vegetables and meat on a special stove.
It seemed like we were having a barbecue for dinner.
By the time dinner was over, the sun had set, and we could see the tall buildings that are famous tourist spots lit up. The brightness of these buildings at night might not be so different from Japan.
”Um, the food was delicious. Thank you for today. Here’s a little gift for you.”
Risa took out a wrapped gift from her backpack and handed one to Elishira-san and one to Arshi-san. They opened their presents right there.
Elishira-san’s gift was a beautiful oval bento box and a matching set of lacquered spoon and fork. …A bento box?
”Risa, thank you! I didn’t have a bento box like this!”
Looks like Elishira-san, who works, prefers bento over deli food for lunch.
”Wow! Risa! This is the best gift ever!”
Arshi-san’s excited voice echoed in the greenhouse. What did she get?
(!)
I could see she was holding something unbelievable. That’s… a book that Risa has been reading a lot lately! The cover color is a bit different from Risa’s, so it must be a new one or a special edition.
”Risa-san!?”
I wanted to ask Risa why she had that here. I’ve never seen anyone bring a set of old books or novels as a gift before.
”Huh? What?”
She casually asked back like it was no big deal. Maybe I’m the weird one for thinking it’s strange to give that as a gift?
”Uh… nothing.”
The person who received the gift was so excited, almost screaming, and kept thanking Risa over and over. …So, does that mean Elishira-san’s kid likes it too?
It’s true that the best gifts are the ones that make the receiver happy.
”Oh? This is…”
Elishira-san was staring closely at the book cover. Is it okay for her to find out about her kid’s unusual taste? For some reason, I felt more nervous than anyone else.
”This is a genre that’s popular among girls right now, right? I’m glad, Arshi-san.”
No matter the genre, it seems this family is pretty open-minded about creative stuff.
