Volume 13 Chapter 8 Monster Hunting – Miriallia Blackdagger

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

The day before the hunt, I was getting busy with Ines and Feria in our bikini armor. Milly caught us. She got angry and made me work out all night.

Push-ups, sit-ups, back extensions, and squats over and over. It reminded me of the training place, and the instructor who helped me get the [Warrior] job.

Usually, if I was getting busy with Ines and Feria, Milly would just say, “Let me join,” and we’d do intercourse. But this time, she was serious about training me like a Spartan.

”I worked out too hard last night… Ouch… Even my young body hurts after all that training…”

My body ached all over from the night’s workout. I rubbed myself as I walked out of the inn towards the hunting wagon.

When I got to the hunting wagon, Milly was still looking at me with an angry face.

”Kent! We’re going to hunt monsters in the southeastern part of the Southern Region, where there are lots of new monsters! You’ll die if you let your guard down for even a second! You’ll follow my instructions during the hunt, got it!”

”Y-yes! I’ll hold back on intercourse for a while!”

Milly’s intensity made me say something I didn’t even mean to.

”That’s no good! Do intercourse too! We’ll set up camp, and you can do intercourse there!”

 ”Y-yes, I understand your instructions!”

I was overwhelmed by Milly’s serious tone, and I gave her a Kingdom-style salute, hitting my chest with my fist.

Milly is a super strong S-rank solo Hunter. Maybe this is her real self.

Milly used to worry too much about protecting me, so she couldn’t use her powers right. But now, she really wants to train me to be a good Monster Hunter.

…Milly looks best when she’s all cool and strong, like when we first met… But, I like the sweet, begging Milly too… I got a great wife…

I fell in love with Milly, my cool wife, all over again.

”Okay, everyone, check your gear! The other Monster Hunters already left. We’re the last ones!”

Milly gave the order, and the Crimson Bride members started checking their stuff.

The Crimson Bride members going hunting are Milly, me, Lina, Talia, Carly, Aurelia, Annabella, Feria, Ines, and Flamil.

Lana left the healing to Veris and the new Healers, and she’s coming with us to set up a field hospital at our camp with Sarah, Christina, Caroline, and Meg.

Since we’re the last to leave, there were lots of traders’ wagons behind us.

They want to come with us to the camp and sell rare monster stuff and supplies, so they were waiting for us to leave.

 ”Milly, I’m done checking!”

After everyone checked their gear, we got on the hunting wagon. Milly and Aurelia sat in the driver’s seat, and the wagon started to follow the others.

* * *

After about 3 hours in the wagon, the nice Town road was gone. The road was just tire tracks from the Monster Hunters who went ahead.

We didn’t see many signs of monster fights, so this area wasn’t a monster zone yet.

After a while, we got to a wide spot in front of a thick forest, where a dozen hunting wagons were parked.

”We’ve arrived at the first campsite. Everyone, get down with your gear.”

Milly was calling out from the driver’s seat.

The traders’ carts that had been following us also started to stop one after another, unpacking their loads.

Lana, who was with us, seemed ready to set up the Sanctuary with Barrier Magic before sunset to keep monsters out, and she was already running off with an assistant to place the barrier stones.

As we got out of the carts, Milly quickly began selecting the members for the hunt.

”For now, I’ll announce today’s team. Vanguard: Feria, Ines, Ms. Annabella. Midfield: me. Rearguard: Kent, Flamil, Talia, Carly. Lina and Aurelia will stay behind.”

Aurelia, who wasn’t chosen, raised her hand to Milly.

”Can I go hunt on my own? I haven’t given these kids any magic elements for a while…”

”No way. This place has so many monsters that are hard to hunt solo. Solo hunting is not allowed. Don’t worry, Aurelia. There are plenty of monsters, and I’ll make sure to leave some for you.”

Milly patted Aurelia on the shoulder.

Aurelia, forbidden from hunting alone, reluctantly backed down.

”Got it. Please let me join the team next time. I beg you.”

”Understood. Now, the chosen members, let’s grab our stuff and head into the forest.”

We quickly finished our hunting preparations and finally entered the dense forest where the southeast monsters lurked.

* * *

As we walked through the thick forest, scanning the area with Detection, we spotted a huge tree covered in mushrooms.

Having gained action experience from taking down Orphée Bleu in a high magic element density Hunting Ground, my [Scout] level was rising rapidly, and I had obtained [Detection III] and [Aura Perception], with the edge of my menu screen flashing red.

”Milly, those mushrooms look suspicious, don’t they?”

”Kent, did you notice? It’s probably a monster. But they’re just a decoy. The real deal is over there!!”

Milly threw a small knife into the bushes of Left Hand.

The knife stabbed into the empty space, and black mist started to seep out.

”Carly, you can burn that. I leave it to you.”

”Tch, Miriallia Blackdagger. Don’t act all high and mighty giving me instructions! I knew that was a Camouflage Treant!”

”You’re so annoying. Just deal with it already.”

Milly waved her hand at Carly like it was a hassle.

”Ugh! My lord, I think it would be better to make another woman your official wife instead of keeping that nasty piece of work!”

Even while cursing at Milly, Carly shot a fireball at the Camouflage Treant.

The fireball hit, igniting the disguised Ent and causing it to rise in flames.

Then the surrounding bushes started to shake, and several gooey, humanoid monsters with long white tentacles oozing slimy liquid emerged.

”Mr. Kent! Some sticky monsters are coming out!”

”Ms. Feria! Is that mushroom in front moving?!”

Ines’s voice cut in as the mushroom growing at the base of a giant tree began to aggressively release spores.

”Ines, don’t panic and create some distance. Exploding mushrooms and magic mushrooms definitely grow together, so it’s better not to get too close. Let’s back up and draw in the Camouflage Treant and the tentacle beasts. Everyone, fall back. Kent, no enemies behind you, right?”

Following Milly’s instructions, I checked our escape route, and the menu was flashing bright red.

The intense flickering of the menu screen indicated that I had also acquired [Ambush Prevention II], which meant I successfully sensed monsters approaching from behind.

”Milly, they’re coming from behind too!”

”Chii, you’re totally hooked, huh? Kent, Flamil, blast the enemies in the back with all you’ve got! Ines, Feria, Annabella, fall back to me! Carly, keep burning those fake Ents!”

Milly’s orders came fast, one after the other.

Milly was totally focused on killing the monsters, and her orders were perfect.

Feria and the others joined her, and they started fighting the Tentacle Units that were attacking.

I squinted, trying to spot any enemies coming from behind, looking hard in the dim forest.

I looked and looked, and then I saw it: a bunch of green-eyed beetle-things flying towards us from deep in the woods. I figured they were attracted to the magic stuff in the Nitro Mushrooms and Magic Mushrooms spores.

 The beetles got closer.

When they got close enough, their green eyes suddenly turned red, and they screamed “REAAAL PEOPLE!” like a human, and charged right at me.

”Kent! Those are Explosion Bugs! They go crazy when they see couples this time of year and blow themselves up. They see Kent with a bunch of girls and will focus on you, so shoot them down! Even if they blow up, your barrier should be fine with Mr. Golerg’s armor. Just a little dent, that’s all. Get rid of them quickly, okay!”

Milly, dodging the Tentacle Units’ lotion attacks, told me what the charging beetles were. Then, she gave me orders to take care of the Explosion Bugs.

Before, she would have just tried to protect me, but now she trusted my skills.

If I didn’t live up to her expectations, I’d be ashamed to stand next to her as her man. So, I pulled out Elitzina from my inventory, aimed at the charging Explosion Bugs, and started shooting.

The exploding bugs started their charge, and when the bullets hit them, they went boom, scattering everywhere. The explosions even set off more explosions.

But the exploding bugs didn’t flinch, yelling “REAAAL LIIIFE!” as they charged at me.

 ”Sorry, Flamil, cover me!”

 ”Yes, Sir Kent.”

Flamil was happy to help with my cover quest, and she fired her Induction Bullets, smashing the exploding bugs coming at me with tons of steel balls, making them explode.

Thanks to that, I didn’t get blown up, and I could calmly aim and shoot the few exploding bugs left with Elitzina.

The exploding bugs that charged all blew up before they could get to me, so I had a clear way to retreat.

 ”Milly, clear path!”

”Let’s fall back! We need to be at least 20 meters away from the mushrooms. Kent, you make sure the back is safe. The retreat order is Talia, Flamil, Carly, Annabella, Ines, Feria, Kent, and then me!”

Everyone listened to Milly’s clear Instructions and started to retreat in order.

 ”Sir Kent, I’ll go ahead.”

Talia saw that no one was hurt or had a status problem in the crazy battle, and she and Flamil ran to the back, 20 meters away.

”Those monsters in the Southern Region really like to ambush us. My master. It sucks to follow Milly’s Instructions, but even if she’s rotten, she’s got the same S-class strength in Monster Hunting as me. She seems serious about hunting this time, so I’ll just do what she says.”

Carly grumbled at Milly but followed her Instructions and retreated.

She was also an S-class Monster Hunter, so she knew how dangerous the monsters in the Southern Region were.
