Volume 14 Chapter 33 The Fighting General Arbalest – Part I
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
Eclair, who had broken the crab-shaped ‘another world monster’s’ claw, then drove the broken claw into the crab to finish it off. Though she claimed her arms were weakening, she still possessed the skills of an Advanced-level Monster Hunter. After clearing out some of the nearby ‘another world monsters’ around the soldiers and securing a more favorable space for battle, she faced off against the ‘another world monsters’ back-to-back with them.
”If compared to Kent, all the men in the world would be seen as useless. Even I, with my saved-up wages, could have afforded to spoil Eclair at least. Well, I think she was probably satisfied with the night, though…”
A light shock hit my back. When I turned around, Eclair’s face was flushed bright red, and seeing that, I was satisfied that she had been pleased.
”I never thought Arbalest would be so aggressive. Thanks to that, the part of me that was dying out reignited. You better take responsibility. A mature woman’s desires are something else. After retiring, it’ll be non-stop all day long, from morning to night.”
”Bring it on. I didn’t expect to have such desires at my age. I might end up moving my hips like a riled-up monkey.”
After losing my desire for intimacy following the death of my ex-wife Aclea, my re-marriage to Eclair seemed to have unleashed those desires. On days when we could return home early, we spent the entire night together, and it wasn’t rare for me to show up for work the next day with bags under my eyes. Once the war was over and I could retire safely, the idea of heading to the hot spring town in Kent’s territory to unwind and spend some intimate time with Eclair sounded far too tempting.
”That’s right. After retiring, let’s go to the hot spring town. We’ll warm our bodies, relax, eat delicious food… Alright! Now I’m fired up! Come! Triple Sword Slash!!”
After thinking about life after retirement, I got excited, my energy skyrocketed, and the mischievous feeling from my younger days came back. Before I knew it, I had unleashed a Sword Flash Triple Slash. The Sword Flash tore through the bodies of the approaching ‘another world monsters,’ cutting them apart. It kept moving forward until it lost its power, leaving behind a heap of corpses, their limbs and torsos dripping with bodily fluids.
”General Arbalest took down the enemy!! Now’s our chance! Push them back!”
With the pressure relieved by my attack, the soldiers regained their stance and began launching their spears again at the approaching ‘another world monsters.’ As a general, it was foolish for me to fight on the front lines, according to the Kingdom’s military manual created with Quenelra and Julius. But since the manual wasn’t designed with a situation like this in mind, Quenelra would probably revise it later.
In desperate battles, there are times when a general must lead from the front and give the soldiers hope. The soldiers who had regained their spirits after watching my fight, in sync with the reinforcements led by His Majesty, began cutting down the disorganized ‘another world monsters’ one by one. However, the human cost of defeating them was high, and even if we won, few soldiers would be left to assist Kent.
…Sorry, Kent. I’ll try my best, but I might only be able to clear your way back at most…
Despite the losses, I had to defeat the remaining ‘another world monsters’ before us to maintain the path for the Margrave South District army and the Monster Hunters to reach their goal and return. I extended the extra arms growing from my back, gripping the swords tightly in my hands, preparing for the battle.
”Arbalest-Haydon!! I’m charging in!!!”
I plunged into the fray as the ‘another world monsters’ began to falter, my eight arms unleashing a whirlwind of slashes. With each step, I carved through the approaching enemies, their bodies piling into a mountain of death before me. Behind me, my guardian followed, allowing me to focus solely on the path ahead. It felt almost easier than battle itself.
”Sir Quenelra has issued the order to advance! Follow Sir Arbalest and annihilate the ‘another world monsters’!”
I could sense the stalemate breaking. Quenelra, though he claimed to be poor at command, had reinforced the troops, driving a wedge into the crumbling enemy lines. His meticulous care for his subordinates in administrative work had always convinced me that, with calmness, he could lead effectively on the battlefield. And indeed, he had perfectly timed the deployment of reinforcements, meeting my expectations.
”Alright, follow me! We’ll carve through the enemy ranks in one go!”
”””Ohhhh!”””
The troops roared in response, their morale soaring. I led the charge, slicing down more ‘another world monsters.’ Their bodily fluids corroded parts of my armor, but I paid it no mind, wielding my eight arms with demonic ferocity to shatter the bodies of humanity’s enemies.
