Volume 14 Chapter 40 Otherworld

 *Kent’s Perspective

Having overcome the deaths of Rosalinda and the members of Rootless Weed (Deracine), I stepped into the otherworld, the source of countless sacrifices, and entered the realm where the ‘another world monsters’ dwelled.

The sky above was covered with gray clouds, blocking out any sunlight, casting a gloomy, overcast hue. The ground was a reddish-brown sand, riddled with glass-like fragments, making it difficult to traverse. The landscape was a ruin of stacked buildings, towering and crumbling.

I thought to myself, *What is this place? The city has become a ruin… It definitely looks like a near-future building…*

By deciphering the diary of the first Arsella of the Dorman family, which Lina and Valentina had been investigating, we concluded that this place might have been an alternate space created by the Fairy race, who had intended to escape from the ‘another world monsters.’ It was a temporary space, containing only enough room for a single city, similar in size to a dungeon connected through a crack in time and space.

As expected, the Fairy race that fled must have been destroyed by the ‘another world monsters’…

With Milly and the others, I explored the ruined town and streets, staying vigilant. There were old but severe combat scars scattered around.

I noticed something sticking out of the sandy ground and pulled it out. “A flesh puppet?” I muttered. However, most of it had already rusted, leaving only the arm.

”Only the arm is left. What a shame. The complete ones, like the one you have, are top-quality and rarely found even in a crack of time and space!” Lina commented.

”Ah, I know that. But what is this? What exactly were the Fairy race? Their civilization level is way too different from ours…” I replied, examining the arm.

”Lady Arsella felt that when she sent the investigation team. It seems that their civilization had technology far surpassing ours, given the ruins and Magic Tools left in our world… Even they could not defeat the ‘another world monsters,’” Lina explained.

As we continued exploring, Lina spoke of the demise of the Fairy race, the indigenous people of the Demon Continent. “According to the literature brought back by the investigation team, the ‘another world monsters’ were originally called impostors. They seemed to be creatures that possess human minds and bodies. When the possessed humans bit others, it caused a massive panic. I concluded that the Fairy race, fearing infection, discarded their physical bodies to fight the ‘another world monsters.’ I think they used meat puppets as temporary bodies, copying their personalities and consciousnesses into components called chips.”

I listened intently, wondering why the Demon Continent’s ruins were not in disarray and why this alternate space was left as an escape route. However, since it’s from an ancient time, it’s impossible to know the details.

”I see… But the current ‘another world monsters’ have become mechanical creatures, haven’t they? How did that happen?” I asked.

”That’s just a speculation, but I think it’s a form of the bioweapons developed by the Fairy race against the ‘another world monsters’ being possessed. The investigation team’s materials had images of weapons similar to the current ‘another world monsters,’” Lina replied.

I nodded, processing this information. “The current ‘another world monsters’ don’t have the infection ability, right?”

”Yes, that’s confirmed. The infection ability seems to be lost after the bio-weapon was incorporated and changed into a bio-mechanical form,” Lina confirmed.

As we discussed this, Feria reported from above, “Mr. Kent, if we continue straight ahead, there’s a large circular building where ‘another world monsters’ are gathering.”

I turned to Lina and Valentina, “A building where ‘another world monsters’ are gathering… What do you think?”

Valentina, who had offered to help close the Abyss Gate and joined us on this mission, spoke up. “Sir Kent… that building might be the central control room of the unapproachable space that the investigation team couldn’t reach. According to the Fairy race literature identified by the investigation team, it seems that an impostor took over the bio-weapon there and is multiplying.”

Lina supported Valentina’s opinion. “Yes, I also think that facility is suspicious. Iska might have gone there too.”

”Alright. Everyone, let’s head towards the building that Feria found,” I decided.

As we started moving, an ‘another world monster’ burst out of the sand, catching me off guard. I stumbled, but quickly regained my footing. Kerstin immediately took charge.

”Kent… this is where Black Bullet will take over. Kent’s group, aim for the building! Black Bullet Hunting Group members, we will hold the retreat for King Kent here! From now on, we will annihilate the enemy,” she declared.

I nodded, grateful for their support. “Kerstin, it’s up to you. If it gets dangerous, ask for reinforcements outside the gate!”

”Understood. Unlike Rosalinda and the others, I don’t plan on dying from making a mistake. I still have a mountain of things I need to get from you, Kent,” Kerstin replied with a serious expression.

I smiled, appreciating her determination. “Thanks, Kerstin. I’m counting on you.”

Leaving the rear-guard to Black Bullet, we ran towards the central control room. As we approached, several giant ‘another world monsters’ and hundreds of medium-sized ones charged at us with firearms. Sensing danger, I ordered the First Strike.

”The giants ahead are carrying suspicious weapons, so wipe them out with full force!” I commanded.

Delprius, leading Black Wing, disrupted their formation with beams from above. The Hunting Group members from King’s Sword, Silver Wolf, and Hand of Glory closed in, slaughtering the ‘another world monsters’ one after another.

”Kent, leave this to me and the Monster Hunters. You and your group head to that building,” Delprius said.

I nodded, grateful for his support. “Sorry… I’ll leave it to you.”

With the enemy’s fierce resistance confirming our suspicions about the building, I ran with Milly and the others towards the central control room, determined to achieve our main goal of closing the Abyss Gate.
