Iska… please… I hope you’re safe….
With a desperate feeling, we continued searching the vast central control room. Then, I noticed something moving inside one of the capsules.
”Stop. Something just moved in that capsule. You two stay here. I’ll go check it out.”
”O-okay. Be careful.”
”Sir Kent… please be careful…”
I readied my Elitzina and slowly approached the capsule. With each step, the frost-covered capsule gradually came into full view. It seemed the capsule was still powered on, emitting a low humming sound. Peering inside, I sensed a faint movement at the edge of the capsule.
Could it be a survivor of the Fairy race?
The fact that the capsule’s power was still on suddenly made me think it might be a survivor of the Fairy race. If there was a survivor, they might have information about the facility’s closure device. However, looking around, most of the capsules were destroyed, and many had died, their remains reduced to skeletons. The chances of finding a survivor were slim.
”Kent… is there something in there?”
Lina, on the verge of getting lost in her thoughts, called out to him.
”Yeah, something’s moving inside the capsule. I hope it’s a survivor, but given the state of things around here, the odds are low.”
”But we have to check… if it’s a survivor, they could be a valuable source of information…”
Valentina seemed to have reached the same conclusion as him.
”Alright. I’ll open it. You two, move a little further away.”
After having the two of them wait at a short distance, he pressed the built-in button that was supposed to open the frost-covered capsule door. There was a mechanical sound, and the capsule lid slowly opened, releasing the cold air trapped inside. A pale hand emerged from within.
Y-yes, it’s a survivor after all! We have to save them!
Seeing the hand, I believed there was a survivor and immediately tried to touch it to use Healing Magic.
OOOOOOOO!!!!!!
The moment I reached into the capsule to use Healing Magic, a strange creature with a grotesquely swollen head bit my hand!!
”Gahh! Fuck!! An enemy?! Screw off! Why are your hands so clean?!”
As the cold air inside the capsule dissipated, the figure of a grotesquely bloated, human-like creature became visible. At the last moment, I dodged its bite, pressed the muzzle of my Elitzina against the swollen head, and fired in full auto.
Rat-a-tat-tat, rat-a-tat-tat, rat-a-tat-tat-tat!
The creature, riddled with bullets to its head, had its skull explode, and its limbs went limp as it collapsed messily back into the capsule.
”K-Kent! Are you okay?!”
”Ugh, it almost got me! My armor managed to block it somehow! Still, what the hell is this thing?! Is this a Fairy race?!”
Looking at the headless corpse before me, it wasn’t a pleasant sight, but I had to investigate it thoroughly.
