When we arrived at the Hunter Guild, it was still early, so the cafeteria and tavern were empty and quiet.
We headed towards the counter with Feria.
At the counter was Ms. Suzy, a tough-looking woman.
”Oh, Sir Kent, what brings you here today?”
”I heard Feria is processing her resignation, so I thought I’d say hi to you. I brought some baked goods made by Annabella, so please enjoy them with everyone.”
I handed over the box of baked goods.
”Oh, you didn’t have to go through the trouble. But I think it would be rude to refuse, so we’ll enjoy them together.”
Ms. Suzy accepted the box and bowed deeply.
Her voice was so beautifully clear that it created a strange contrast with her tough appearance.
”Feria, you’ve been hired by a good master, haven’t you? Make sure you don’t mess up. If it gets out that a maid from the Blackdagger family caused trouble, it could lead to trust issues for us (Hunter Guild).”
”Why not? I’m already a maid for the Blackdagger family!”
A blue vein appears on Ms. Suzy’s forehead.
”Feria! You know our (Hunter Guild) also does staffing, right? That includes placing maids and butlers for nobles! If you cause trouble with that empty head of yours, the nobles will get worried and stop coming to us for staffing requests!”
Ms. Suzy, with her vein popping, talks to Feria in a rush.
”Then it’s fine! Mr. Kent is kind, so I think he’ll cover for me if I cause any trouble, right, Mr. Kent?”
Feria gives me a bright smile.
Sure, I think I would cover for Feria if she caused trouble, but I shouldn’t say that out loud.
Especially not in front of my former boss; that’s the worst choice, Feria.
Ms. Suzy grabs Feria by the collar and starts lecturing her.
”Feria! Since you haven’t officially resigned yet, I’m saying this as your boss! Your actions could cause your colleagues and their families to lose their jobs! Be aware of that! If you can’t understand that, I can’t accept your resignation. I have a duty to protect the guild staff.”
Feeling scolded by Ms. Suzy, Feria responds seriously.
”Yes, I’m sorry. I will do my best as a maid for the Blackdagger family while carrying the Hunter Guild’s name.”
”Ms. Suzy, the Blackdagger family will properly train Feria under Annabella, so could you please let it go?”
I bow my head to Ms. Suzy.
”Sir Kent, please lift your head. Feria may be lacking, but I ask you to hire her with a generous heart. Thank you very much.”
Ms. Suzy is a nice person; she must be a capable career woman.
I can’t see her face, but she’s probably a voluptuous beauty wearing glasses and a tight suit.
Oh, I shouldn’t let my imagination run wild, or I won’t be able to resist temptation, so I’ll stop here.
After that, the retirement procedures for Feria were completed, and as I was about to thank Ms. Suzy and leave, a familiar face appeared from the back of the counter.
”Hey, Trainee Kent… no, just Kent. Did you come to learn a new job today?”
The voice belonged to the instructor.
”No, I’m just here to accompany Feria for her retirement. Are you training today as well, instructor?”
Since the instructor was in armor, I thought he was training again and asked.
”Today, I have an additional lecture for the Warrior course, and we’re going to hunt monsters at a nearby hunting ground. Recently, monsters have become more active, and there aren’t enough Monster Hunters, so there are fewer parties and hunting groups that can afford to train beginners. Our Hunter Guild is also in a status of training.”
The instructor shrugged.
”By the way, Kent, do you want to join? Feria is here too, and today’s participants are the same guys you trained with before, so with me included, we’ll have exactly 8 people for the party.”
I was taken aback by the instructor’s offer.
”N-no, I don’t have any equipment, and if I go out without permission, Milly will get mad.”
The instructor glared at me.
”Kent, you’re a man! Make your own decisions! It’s nearby, and you can be back by evening. I’ll lend you equipment. Plus, this is technically a quest, so you’ll get paid a little. So, what’s it going to be? Are you in or out?”
If this isn’t training but a quest, then it’s work, right? If I get equipment, companions, and even some money, I should go.
If I’m back by evening, Milly probably won’t be too mad.
Maybe I should give it a try.
For now, I’ll ask Feria what she thinks.
”What about you, Feria? Are you going?”
”Well, today Ms. Annabella has given me a day off, so I’d like to go to earn some pocket money!”
Feria said she wanted to go, so I decided to join too.
I thought to myself that I was really indecisive.
”Sir, I will participate.”
”Oh, you’re joining? Alright, then accept the request (quest).”
”Sir Kent, are you going to accept the request (quest)?”
Ms. Suzy, who was next to the instructor, confirmed it.
”Yes, I definitely want to accept it.”
”Then let me explain the details of the request. The location is the Indra Plains northwest of Abyss Vena, where you need to collect more than 5 Horn Rabbit horns. The reward for completing the request is 2 large copper coins, and if you collect more than 5, we will buy them for 5 copper coins each. The difficulty is one star, so anyone can take it. The time limit is half a day, and that’s the request details.”
”Wow, Ms. Suzy, you’re offering 5 copper coins for each Horn Rabbit horn?”
Feria was surprised when she heard the details of the request.
It seemed she was shocked that a Horn Rabbit horn was worth 5 copper coins.
I don’t really understand the value of currency in this world, but judging by Feria’s reaction, it seems like normally, a Horn Rabbit horn wouldn’t be worth that much.
”Recently, the demand for healing potions has been skyrocketing, and the supply isn’t enough. So, we planned this material collection for healing potions while training beginners, so we’d be happy if more participants join.”
”Alright, I’ll do my best to get the horns!”
”Ah, Ms. Suzy, I have a question. How strong are the Horn Rabbits?”
I was curious about the strength of the monsters since I had almost been killed by a Silver Mantis.
”Well, the Horn Rabbit is just a wild long-eared rabbit that has turned into a monster, so I think if someone with a combat class equips themselves and fights, it should be a piece of cake.”
”I see, then it should be fine. How do I accept the request?”
Ms. Suzy brought out a small black box that looked like an Authentication Stone.
The box was emitting a yellow light.
”Could you please touch this Quest Check stone? If you do, the request (quest) will be written into your identification.”
Encouraged by Ms. Suzy, I touched the black box glowing yellow.
When I did, a log automatically unfolded.

──Hunter Guild Quest first acceptance. Guild card will be issued.

Looking at the new menu, I see a Guild card section, so I open it.

Oh, a Guild card. It feels kind of game-like.
It shows the number of successes and failures; if I have too many failures, will people look down on me? Also, I got the title of F-rank Hunter, which means I’m just starting out.
’Group’ seems to be like a Guild or Clan in an online game.
”Sir Kent, the acceptance procedure is complete. Let me explain about the Guild card. The Guild card also serves as an ID. If a comrade loses their life in battle with monsters, a metal plate will be expelled from their body after death. If you bring that to the Hunter Guild, we can distribute the deceased’s inheritance to their designated family members, so please make sure to bring it. A reward will also be given.”
The Guild card is like a recognition tag (Dog Tag); it conveys that in Monster Hunter, it’s possible to die at any time and anywhere.
”Ah, I understand.”
”It would also help if you could bring back any Guild cards you find in the field.”
”If I find one, I’ll bring it back.”
After receiving the explanation about the Guild card, I borrowed some equipment and got ready to set off.
”Oh, it looks like everyone has arrived.”
When I looked in the direction the instructor pointed, I saw 4 young men from Majin who trained with me and a young woman who seemed to be from Asura.
”It seems Kent and Feria will also participate in today’s request (quest). Everyone, do your best!”
The Asura young man (woman in fact) glanced at me and then looked away, sitting down.
Since everyone had gathered, we were set to depart for the Indra Plains under the instructor’s guidance.
I asked Ms. Suzy to pass a message to Annabella before I left.
And then, I was set to head out on my first quest with Feria.
