After that, we hit a few small groups, but since we always fought 2 against one against the monsters, no one got injured.
However, we only gathered a total of 14 horns, which was half of what all 7 of us needed.
”Alright, let’s take a break for now. Everyone can rest.”
”Ugh, I’m tired. There aren’t many Horn Rabbit around, huh?”
Feria sat down in the grass and was drinking from her water pouch.
During the battle, I had caught glimpses of Feria’s backside a few times, so I was relieved that I had her wear tights.
If Feria’s bare backside was flying in front of me during the fight, my gaze would be drawn there, and I might get caught off guard.
While I was thinking about that, someone called out to me from behind.
”Lord Kent.”
When I turned around, it was Aurelia.
”Is it true that you are the fiancée of Lord Blackdagger?”
”Yes, that’s right, but why do you ask?”
Aurelia grabbed my shoulders with both hands and leaned in closer.
”Would you consider hiring me as your personal guard?”
”Huh? You want me to hire you as a guard?”
Aurelia was desperately trying to sell herself to me.
”Actually, it’s a bit embarrassing, but I failed the officer exam for the guard and I’m running out of money for my stay. So, I want you to buy my sword skills. My Warrior level is 1, but my Swordsman level is 10. I’m better than that Maid sitting over there.”
Aurelia pointed at Feria.
It seemed Feria had heard and started to argue back.
”The Blackdagger family doesn’t need a guard──because the strongest guard, Ms. Miriallia, is here!”
”But she’s not here right now, and it looks like you’re just bringing along a useless Maid for the quest.”
Aurelia calmly countered.
”I’m not useless! I’m a Maid representing the Hunter Guild!”
”Then how about this? Let’s compete for the number of prey. If I catch more, you hire me as a guard; if I catch less, I become a slave. What do you say, Lord Kent? Will you accept?”
”That sounds…”
I thought that was a pretty cunning proposal.
Considering the level difference, it was hard to imagine losing to Feria, and if I won, I could become her guard.
Even if I lost, I would at least be guaranteed food and shelter as a slave in the Blackdagger family.
For broke Aurelia, it was definitely a proposal she wanted me to accept.
However, I was planning to decline.
The reason was that she was a woman.
Even though she was in a male form with Illusion Glasses, being close to her as a guard would increase the chances of my [Handsome Guy] skill activating.
Just as I was about to decline Aurelia’s proposal, Feria opened her mouth.
”I’ll take that challenge, Mr. Kent! Of course, I’ll accept! I’m definitely going to win and make Aurelia cry like a slave!”
It seems our Maid Warrior is really fired up.
But Feria, think about it for a moment.
Whether we win or lose, we have to bring Aurelia back to the Blackdagger family, and I’m sure Annabella and Milly will lecture us for that.
And I’ll have to endure that lecture too.
To avoid that future, I came up with a plan.
If I lie and say I don’t have the authority to make personnel decisions, and introduce Aurelia to other job opportunities through Milly, she might be satisfied.
So I proposed this to Aurelia.
”I’m sorry, but I can’t accept Aurelia’s proposal. I’m just Milly’s fiancé, so I don’t have the authority to make personnel decisions. But if you show me your skills, I can introduce you to other nobles through Milly.”
”Eh, Mr. Kent, let’s do it! I’ll do it!”
Feria mimicked swinging a sword in the shadows.
Her chest was bouncing as if it was about to spill out of her armor.
It seems our magical-breasted MaidWarrior’s motivation has reached its peak.
”I see, since it doesn’t make sense to compete with weak enemies for prey, I’ll let you show me your skills, and if I can get an audience with Lord Blackdagger, that’s good enough.”
Aurelia seemed satisfied to have the opportunity to get to know Milly.
”Aw, that’s too bad──.”
Feria puffed out her cheeks.
”Hey! Enough chatting. A big group is approaching! Everyone, get ready!”
The instructor’s sharp warning rang out.
The grass ahead was shaking unnaturally over a wide area.
We all stood up and readied our weapons.
A horn Rabbit jumped out from the bushes.
”Lord Kent, let’s see my skills right away!”
Aurelia dashed towards the horned rabbit.
Then, she leaped into its space and, with a thrust that knocked me out, pierced the horned rabbit’s throat, taking it down in one blow.
──One hit, huh? That stab really hurt a lot.
While Aurelia was taking down one, more Horn Rabbits kept appearing.
Just from what I could see, there were about 5 or 6, and I felt like there were more hiding in the grass behind us.
The other trainees, besides Aurelia, were also following the rule of facing the Horn Rabbits in pairs.
”Mr. Kent, there’s one coming from behind!”
I was focused on the enemy in front of me when Feria’s warning made me notice a Horn Rabbit jumping out from the grass behind.
”Sorry, Feria, can I trust you with my back?”
To take down the enemy in front, I wanted to break the two-on-one rule and rely on Feria to cover me.
”Yes! I’ll protect your back perfectly, Mr. Kent!”
”Thanks, I’m counting on you.”
Hearing Feria’s response, I aimed at the Horn Rabbit ahead.
The Horn Rabbit seemed confused about who to attack.
──I’ll finish it in one hit!
I approached the confused Horn Rabbit and thrust my iron sword toward its throat, putting all my strength from my legs and arms into the strike.
The tip of the sword pierced the Horn Rabbit’s throat perfectly, releasing a large amount of ‘magic element,’ and its massive body vanished.
But then, another one appeared.
”Tch, how many are there?”
I clicked my tongue and faced the newly emerged Horn Rabbit.
After that, more Horn Rabbits kept popping out from the grass, and even the instructor who had been guarding us joined the fight.
Feria and Aurelia were also hunting quite a few Horn Rabbits.
I couldn’t remember how many I had taken down after the fifth one.
In the chaotic battle, some got lightly injured, but everyone was okay, and there were no issues continuing the fight.
When the Horn Rabbit frenzy finally ended and we gathered the materials, we found 56 horns.
That meant we had taken down 56 of them.
Since it’s an 8-person party, that means each person has hunted 7 heads, but Aurelia has probably hunted more.
”In the chaos of battle, it’s hard to tell who hunted what, so we’ll split it evenly. By the way, I’ll give my share to Aurelia since she was moving the best.”
There were no objections to the split from the instructor, and the long-eared rabbit’s body was processed and distributed among everyone.
”With this, everyone has exceeded their quota. Shall we head back soon?”
Since the instructor suggested returning, and I was feeling tired, I decided to go along with the suggestion.
”Yes, let’s head back. I’m a bit worn out.”
It seemed the other members felt the same way, so our hunt came to an end.
