The square, located almost in the center of Abyss Vena, usually had street vendors and stalls, but today it was closed since the guard squad was present from the morning.
Suddenly, something like a podium was set up, and the residents started gathering in the square out of curiosity.
”Today, Lord Margrave Heido is ordering a public punishment for the misconduct of the Silver Wolf Hunting Group.”
At the entrance to the square, the guards began explaining the purpose to the residents who started to gather.
After a while, perhaps through word of mouth, a large crowd of residents started to swarm into the square.
Watching the scene from the podium, I spoke to Milly.
”Wow, look at all the people. It’s over a thousand, right?”
”That just goes to show how well-known Silver Wolf is. It’s one of the top 5 Hunting Groups by scale in Abyss Vena.”
As we were chatting, Arbalest, now dressed in formal attire, came up to the stage.
Then, as if being brought forward by the guards, the main culprit of this incident, Gruza, was dragged onto the stage still tied up.
Gruza was a man who looked nothing like a Monster Hunter, with a body that was loose and round, resembling a lump of fat.
It was clear to see that he was not someone who seriously hunted monsters.
He was probably just a parasite soaking up the benefits within the Hunting Group.
”I didn’t do anything! Why do I have to be captured in front of all these people!”
Gruza was loudly proclaiming his innocence while cursing.
Buzz.
It seemed that something resembling a ‘microphone’ had been set up on the stage. Upon closer inspection, there appeared to be speakers as well.
”People of Abyss Vena, I am your lord, Margrave Heido. Today, due to the misconduct of the Silver Wolf Hunting Group, I have decided to publicly punish them.”
As the news spread among the residents of the square, murmurs began to ripple through the crowd.
”The incident this time involved Gruza, an executive of the Silver Wolf Hunting Group, who became the main perpetrator by kidnapping and assaulting young women who had just become a Monster Hunter and even going so far as to sell them into slavery, a fact that was brought to the attention of the guard.”
”No! It’s not just me! Everyone was enjoying it!”
Gruza argues back as if shouting.
Angry and surprised voices rise from the residents of the square.
”I am Matthew, the leader of the Silver Wolf Hunting Group. Step forward.”
Matthew stepped up to the podium.
”So, Matthew, what I said is the truth, isn’t it?”
”Yes, it’s the truth. Upon investigation within the Silver Wolf Hunting Group, this scandal was uncovered. I was the one who appointed Gruza to his position.”
”That’s right! I only took on the dirty work for Leader Matthew! The responsibility lies with Leader Matthew!”
Even at this point, Gruza still refuses to acknowledge his own crimes and tries to shift the blame onto others.
He was such a disgusting guy that it made me sick just watching him.
It’s quite comforting that he’s so spectacularly shameless, as it allows me to avoid feeling guilty.
Angry voices are rising from the residents of the square, especially the women.
”Now, I will announce the punishment for Silver Wolf regarding the recent misconduct. First, the demand for the dismissal of the current Hunting Group leader, Matthew. Next, for the next 3 years, all members of the Hunting Group will be subjected to a monthly Service hunt. Additionally, the compensation for the victims will be one gold coin per person, excluding medical fees and so on. Then, a follow-up investigation to find all women who were sold as slaves, and this must be done in cooperation with the Guild. Next, a ban on the recruitment of new Hunting Group members for one year. Finally, a prohibition on female members in the Hunting Group. If these conditions are not accepted, I will demand expulsion from the Hunter Guild by the authority of the lord!”
Hearing the details of the punishment, the residents began to murmur loudly. Voices mixed with screams and shouts could be heard, saying things like ‘That’s too harsh!’ and ‘Anyone who kidnaps and assaults a woman should be put to death!’
Matthew, having anticipated the announcement, readily accepted it.
”In accordance with the lord’s ruling, I will step down as the leader of the Silver Wolf Hunting Group and dedicate my efforts as a member of the Hunting Group,”
”Hey! Matthew, the Hunting Group leader! If you accept that, Silver Wolf will fall apart! Do you understand that, you muscle-headed idiot! I went through the trouble of building this Hunting Group to a scale that ranks in the top 5 with Abyss Vena!”
Gruza was outraged upon hearing the punishment.
”Next, the punishment for the main perpetrator, Gruza… Hey, bring it out!”
Arbalest gave instructions to his subordinate.
The subordinate brought a small box containing a ring that emitted a dark aura.
”The punishment for the mastermind Gruza is to be transformed into a woman and sold as a permanent slave to the Goblin village. Of course, a curse has been placed to prevent him from committing suicide. He must atone for his deeds with his own body.”
”Huh? I’m saying I’m innocent! Why do I have to be punished! Where’s the evidence! Mugh-uuuu!”
The guards gagged the shouting Gruza.
Then, a cursed Gender Change Ring was placed on Gruza’s finger.
When the light faded, there lay a plump middle-aged woman.
”Mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm-mmm”
It seemed Gruza was shouting something, but he was immediately cursed and extracted as a slave.
It is said that he will be taken to a Goblin village in the southern suburbs.
The goblins are a species with high fertility and strong sexual urges, and in the past, they often abducted Majin women, causing trouble. Thus, it was not uncommon to transform death row inmates or serious criminals into women and give them to the goblins.
This punishment mimics that practice, but one thing is certain: death awaits him without exception.
Gruza committed such heinous acts, so he brought this upon himself.
I thought it was fitting for him to be violated by goblins and waste away.
The residents displayed various reactions.
Some showed fear, others disgust, and some delight; it was truly a range of reactions.
After Gruza was taken away, Gruza’s henchmen, who were chained in a row, were gathered.
”Next, we will deal with the punishment of those involved in the Silver Wolf’s misdeeds. You are all ordered to serve as combat slaves in the royal army. Your deployment will be at Fort Felward near Abyss gate. The length of your sentences will be determined based on the severity of your crimes, so keep that in mind. If any crimes beyond those you confess to are discovered, your sentence will be doubled, so it’s in your best interest to confess everything honestly.”
Voices of despair rose from Gruza’s henchmen.
The assigned area, Fort Felward, was a highly dangerous deployment in the True Demon Kingdom known as Abyss Vena, plagued by another world monsters.
The casualty rate in that area was significantly higher than in others, requiring many soldiers.
”Fort Felward… I wonder if I can survive a week there?”
”I don’t even know if I can last 3 days.”
”I shouldn’t have fallen for Gruza’s sweet talk…”
”You, who enjoyed playing around with women, didn’t you?”
Those guys are just like Gruza.
They will be worked to the bone, and if they manage to do something good for others, maybe it will count as atonement.
If they somehow survive, they might become decent hunters.
When Arbalest gave the order, the guards led the henchmen away.
”Now, for the final announcement, it seems my niece, Miriallia, Lord Blackdagger, has an important announcement.”
Milly, who was half-asleep, woke up.
”Did you call me just now?”
I explained the situation to Milly, who was still half-dazed.
”Huh? Me? I didn’t hear anything.”
Anyway, I pushed Milly towards Arbalest.
”Ahem, I am Miriallia, the head of the Blackdagger family. Today, I would like to introduce the new Hunting Group. The name of the new Hunting Group is ‘Red Valkyrie,’ which is established with the funding of the Blackdagger family. This Hunting Group will focus on training female hunters in particular, to ensure that incidents like the one we experienced today do not happen again and to raise the status of female hunters. Details regarding treatment and regulations will be communicated to the Hunter Guild in due course.”
The townsfolk were bewildered by Milly’s sudden announcement.
A girl, seemingly a female hunter who understood the situation, asked a question.
”So, can anyone who is a woman join this Hunting Group?”
”Um, that’s the plan, but the focus will primarily be on training beginners. I think details regarding treatment and other matters will be posted by the Guild later. Joining is possible whether you are free or transferring from another Hunting Group.”
Milly’s announcement of the new Hunting Group ended with a somewhat awkward atmosphere.
Well, at least they would have acknowledged that a new female hunter training Hunting Group was established in Abyss Vena.
After that, the public punishment was concluded with Arbalest’s closing words.
As soon as we arrived at the mansion, Milly and I collapsed into sleep.
