Volume 2 Chapter 4 Aurelia’s Job Hunting

After arriving at Abyss Vena, we returned the equipment at the Hunter Guild and settled the rewards for our quest.
I was holding 2 large copper coins that I earned myself for the first time since coming to Grimoire, along with an additional 20 copper coins as a reward.
It had been quite a while since I worked and earned something, even including my time over there, so I felt really happy about it.
Feria and Aurelia also settled their rewards and seemed to be smiling with their pockets feeling warm.
After putting the rewards away, Aurelia came closer to me.
”Lord Kent, by the way, will I be able to meet Lord Blackdagger?”
I knew Aurelia’s skills firsthand, so I had planned to introduce her from the start, but she seemed really concerned about it.
”Ah, yeah. It’s fine, I’ll definitely introduce you. I think she’s probably back already, so if you’re okay with it, I’d like to introduce you over dinner.”
”R-really! Thank you, Lord Kent.”
Aurelia bowed her head and thanked me.
I hadn’t really done anything to deserve her gratitude, and it wasn’t certain that Milly would definitely help her find a job.
”Well, I’ll introduce you, but don’t get your hopes up too much.”
”No, just being allowed to meet Lord Blackdagger will make me a respected figure in this town.”
Well, if she gains a connection with someone as influential as Milly, Aurelia’s job hunt will probably become much easier.
Feria, who had been quietly listening, proudly spoke to Aurelia.
”That’s right! Feria was scouted by the Blackdagger family and is working as a maid. Aurelia, you should show me more respect!”
Feria, while on a quest, started talking to me like a close friend when she realized we were around the same age.
She was being noisy, and Aurelia made gestures to shoo her away.
”I’m not so bored that I need to pay respect to a useless Maid. Now, Lord Kent, shall we hurry along?”
”Ugh, I’m going to tell Ms. Annabella!”
”Yeah, let’s head home then.”

With that, we made our way back home.
When we got home, Feria, who had dirtied her Maid outfit, got scolded by Annabella.
I told Annabella that I brought a guest, Milly, but it seemed she hadn’t returned yet.
So, I decided to guide Aurelia to the reception room and wait for Milly to come back.
On the way down the hallway, I ran into Lina and Lana.
When I asked about the move, it seemed like they were almost done.
”So, who’s that girl behind you? Did you mess up again? By the way, you went on a Guild quest today, right?”
Lina glared at me.
Even though I had nothing to hide, it felt uncomfortable being stared at by her.
”Uh… Mr. Kent… is it because I didn’t do my duty (unlocking Sexual Prowess Skill)?”
Lana asked while hiding behind Lina.
However, she seemed to be getting a bit closer than yesterday.
”No, that’s not it. She’s not a Carrier; I brought her to introduce to Milly.”
”I’m Aurelia. I remember you two are daughters of the Dorman family, but why are you at the Blackdagger house?”
I realized that Aurelia was surprisingly well-informed.
”Ms. Aurelia, there are many things in this world that are better left unknown.”
Lana subtly warned Aurelia not to pry.
Is Lana surprisingly cunning?
I was momentarily taken aback by the gap between her usual demeanor and this side of her, but as soon as I looked at her, she hid behind Lina again.
”I apologize for that. I won’t speak of today’s events to anyone, so please forgive me.”
Aurelia bowed her head to the two of them.
”Well, I’m fine with it. My sister is pretty serious, you know. Aurelia, right? Just be careful, because if weird rumors start floating around, my… (assassination squad) might… (assassinate you).”
Lina’s casually scary comment made Aurelia show a face of fear.
”Well, you don’t have to scare me that much. Aurelia won’t talk.”
”Ha, I’ll be careful.”
Aurelia and I separated from Lana and entered the reception room.

After a while of talking with Aurelia, it seemed Milly had come home, and Annabella came to inform us.
”Lady Miriallia will join us as soon as she finishes changing, so please wait.”
Annabella bowed and left.
After a bit, Milly entered the reception room in her knight’s outfit.
”Thank you for waiting. I am Miriallia Blackdagger. I hear you were introduced by my fiancé, Kent. Are you looking for a position in another house?”
Milly got straight to the point.
I was surprised, as I thought she would speak more indirectly.
”Milly, this Ms. Aurelia is looking for an introduction to some noble as a bodyguard. She’s young but skilled. She’s got the guild instructor’s endorsement.”
I was promoting Aurelia to Milly.
”Oh, that person gives endorsements, huh? Hmm.”
Milly seemed to be thinking about something.
Ideally, I wanted her to introduce Aurelia to a proper noble.
Since Aurelia is a woman, I wondered if there were any jobs as a bodyguard for noble ladies.
”Lord Blackdagger, thank you for meeting with me today. My name is Aurelia. I had a surname, but I discarded it, so please forgive me. The purpose of today’s audience is to request your assistance with the introduction I mentioned earlier.”
Aurelia bowed her head.
”Ms. Aurelia, I see. You are Asura, but given the current situation, you shouldn’t have trouble finding a position, right?”
Aurelia’s face twisted as if she had drunk something bitter in response to Milly’s remark.
”Is this about the current Demon Lord’s preferential treatment of the Asura people? Unfortunately, it seems to have little to do with me. I was planning to join the guard team for my livelihood, but I failed the exam. And if I hadn’t met Lord Kent today for a beginner quest, I would have run out of money for my stay.”
I felt like a question mark appeared on Milly’s face.
Oh no, I realized I hadn’t told Milly that I had been doing quests as a Monster Hunter.
I thought Annabella or Feria would have informed her, but it seems they haven’t.
”Kent, what do you mean by a beginner quest? You didn’t go outside, did you?”
Milly asked in a voice that carried a hint of sternness.
Yep, she’s definitely angry.
”Ah, no. I was invited by the instructor, so I had no choice. I had proper companions with me, and the instructor came along, so it was a piece of cake.”
”…So it was okay then. That’s good. But next time, make sure to tell me first.”
I thought Milly would get mad, but maybe she didn’t press further since there were guests around?
I hope I can avoid a lecture after Aurelia leaves.
”Ah, I’m sorry, I got off track. It was about Ms. Aurelia’s employment, right? In that case, how about becoming a guard for our family? Of course, not as my guard, but as Kent’s personal guard. Also, I’m planning to establish a Hunting Group funded by our family soon, and I would like you to join that as well. I have a few conditions to add, but the salary will be generous.”
Milly actually suggested hiring Aurelia as my personal guard.
If that happens, the chances of becoming a Carrier (Skill activated) will increase significantly.
And what’s this Hunting Group? I haven’t heard a word about it from Milly.
”Lord Blackdagger, no, Lady Miriallia. Will you really allow me to serve the Blackdagger family?!”
Aurelia looked at Milly with a happy expression.
”However, there are 3 conditions. First, you must pledge absolute loyalty to Kent as your lord. Second, you must prioritize Kent’s life above all else. And finally, you must provide your body to Kent. If you can accept these 3 points, we will provide you with food, clothing, and shelter, as well as all equipment from the Blackdagger family, and we will also pay you a salary. What do you think?”
The conditions Milly laid out would almost automatically be accepted if I became the Carrier of my ability.
If that’s the case, is Milly planning to scout Aurelia as a staff member? But I still haven’t seen Aurelia’s true self…
Thinking that, I turned to face Aurelia.
”I have no objections to the first 2 points, but when you say to provide my body, are you suggesting that I should serve Lord Kent in that way?”
”That’s right.”
Milly answered with a calm expression.
”Well, I’ve lived my life focused solely on martial arts, so I have no experience in that area… Is that really okay?”
”In that regard, you can receive guidance from our head maid, so it will be fine. So, what will you do? Will you accept? Or not?”
Milly urged Aurelia to make a decision.
But why is Milly so anxious? Do I really need a personal bodyguard? Right now, I’m just a kept man.
”Ms. Aurelia, you don’t have to force yourself to join. Milly’s proposal is basically the same as becoming my sl*ve. We can forget this conversation.”
”Wait! Lord Kent, I don’t want to dismiss such a good offer. Providing my body is no big deal; I was already considering selling myself as a sl*ve if I couldn’t secure a position here anyway. Besides, I believe Lord Kent wouldn’t do anything unreasonable. I felt that from seeing Feria.”
I could sense that Aurelia was surprisingly enthusiastic about Milly’s proposal.
”Then, you will serve as Kent’s personal bodyguard in our household?”
”Yes, this is Aurelia. I will serve the Blackdagger family as Lord Kent’s shield.”
Aurelia bowed deeply.
”Well then, Kent, you can take off your glasses. She’s probably a woman who really fits your taste. But, please keep your ‘work’ (Sexual Prowess Skill release) to a minimum.”
Milly suggested that Aurelia become my Carrier.
In reality, if she were to be my bodyguard, she would eventually become a Carrier, so it might be Milly’s consideration to have it done early.
Thinking that, I took off the Illusion Glasses and looked at Aurelia’s face.
In front of me stood a tall, beautiful girl with sharp black eyes, long black hair that reached her shoulders, and a body with a chest that seemed ready to burst out of her leather armor.
Since I had been wearing the Illusion Glasses and appeared as a man, I hadn’t minded her height, but Aurelia was quite tall even among women.
If asked whether I liked tall women, I could only answer, “I do!” and I found myself liking Aurelia the moment I saw her.
”Lord Kent…? Ah, you’ve taken off your glasses… you suddenly look quite dignified.”
”Ms. Aurelia, you’re actually quite tall, aren’t you? But really, will you work as my bodyguard?”
Aurelia started to fidget while looking at me.
Curious, I opened the log.
──Handsome Guy Skill activated [Aurelia] Friendship level significantly increased
It was activated.
With this, she was now a Handsome Guy Carrier.
I felt like I had tricked her into coming here to make her a sl*ve, but the moment I saw her appearance, I didn’t want to give Aurelia up to anyone.
”Lord Kent, I will serve you as my lord from now on. I look forward to your guidance.”
The tall Aurelia bowed, folding her body.
”Likewise, I look forward to your guidance, Ms. Aurelia.”
”Then, Ms. Aurelia, I would like you to move in here starting today. I will prepare a room for you. Also, it’s almost dinner time, so let’s introduce you to everyone while we eat together.”
Milly invited Aurelia to dinner.
Aurelia said she hadn’t decided on a place to stay today.
Because of that, she only had the things she was carrying with her, so it seems she decided to just move in as is.
And so, another person to help me out has joined the team.
