”Alright! The sun is about to set. Let’s make a run for it. We’ll handle the decoy, but I’ll leave the carriage coachman to Akebus. Men, don’t let the Black Dogs near the carriage!”

After finishing the instructions to Godard’s men, I walked over to the area near the carriage where the members had gathered to give them further instructions.
”Lana, Feria, and Ines, you guys protect the carriage with Akebus. The rest──Annabella, Aurelia, Beatrice, Manon, Milly, Lina, Talia, and I will act as decoys. There are at least 2 hundred enemies. This time, we don’t need to hunt them all down. Just protect the carriage and the villagers. That’s the only thing you mustn’t misunderstand.”

Once I confirmed that everyone was ready, I led the members assigned to act as decoys to open the gate on the south side and we took off running.
At that moment, a Black Dog, acting as a scout, barked to alert its companions while watching us.
Awoo! Awoo!
From deep within the forest, about 50 Black Dogs appeared, making a rustling sound.
To lure the Black Dogs further in, we boldly opened up the battle with Lina’s magic.
”Kent! I brought plenty of magic stones, so I’ll launch them now! Gather, magic element! Transform into scorching winds of fire! Fire Tornado!”
Gooooooaaahhh!
As the magic unleashed by Lina activated, 3 pillars of fire erupted from the ground, intertwining as they began to spin, forming a fiery tornado.
The tornado of fire burned up the Black Dogs it touched one by one, and continued to circle around in search of prey.
”Lina, you should never do that when you’re having s*x with me”
Though surprised by its power, I prepare for battle.
”I know. I always wear the magic-absorbing pendant when I’m having s*x. The other day, the moment I came, I lost control of the magic and the magic stone came flying out!”
It seems I still need to rely on the Magic-Absorbing Pendant for a while.
”Kent, they’re coming! They’ve called for more allies and are gathering. It looks like they’ve set their sights on us.”
The dogs seem to be focusing on Lina’s flashy magic, planning to hunt us first to secure their safety before devouring the bait.
But I won’t let them have their way.
”Manon, send the signal!”
As Manon nocked an arrow and shot it into the sky,
Whooooosh.
The arrow released an explosive sound.
Then, the carriages and men waiting in the village opened the northern gate and started to run out. Their speed was slightly faster than a person running, to avoid exceeding their capacity, but they were definitely moving away from the village.
”All we can do is leave that to Akebus and Lana. We need to draw these guys in as much as possible before we escape.”
The dogs ran over one after another from the encircled area, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the carriage had left as they were too focused on hunting us.
”Lord Kent! Is it okay to slice the dogs now? I haven’t let this little one absorb much magic element today, so I want to cut them quickly!”
Aurelia was eager to strike with her beloved Sword of the Diamond King drawn.
According to what I heard from Milly, weapons seem to increase their sharpness and durability over years of use due to the influence of magic elements, and some even glow ominously, drastically enhancing their attack power.
Since Aurelia had heard that story too, she must be desperate to shower her beloved sword with a ton of magic elements.
”Okay, hunt down some dogs and then run away!”
”””Yes”””
Following my instructions, Aurelia casts Body Enhancement Magic, is enveloped in red light, and runs towards the nearby Black Dog, diving into its embrace and raising the tip of her sword.
Thunk.
Thud!
Black Dog, who lost the head, spews out black particles and collapses.
”One!”
Aurelia quickly regained her balance and slashed away the body of Black Dog, who was about to jump at her from next to her, with her beloved sword.
Thud!
The torso was split into 2 halves and landed on the ground.
”Two!”
Aurelia, having swiftly taken down 2 in succession, dashed forward to leap and slash the third.
”Disappear! [Golden Phoenix King’s Sword]!”
Just like before, the blade radiated a golden light, slicing the first body, and a vacuum wave burst forth from the blade, cutting through the one in the back.
Perhaps thanks to the benefits of Body Enhancement Magic, it was even more impressive than the combat techniques used up till now.
”Four!”
As Aurelia swiftly sliced down 4 Black Dogs, instead of approaching her in caution, they targeted me and Talia, the rearguard.
Howoooo… awoooon.
I rushed in and defended against the fangs of the Black Dog with my shield.
Bang!
”Ugh, if you want to bite me, you need better fangs!”
When the Black Dog tried to bite, I struck it with my shield, causing it to stagger, and I thrust my spear into its throat.
The weight of the lifeless Black Dog hung on the spear.
As I pulled out the spear, I caught sight of Milly in battle.
Milly wasn’t killing but rather methodically slicing off the Black Dog’s front legs; she seemed to prioritize this processing over killing to prevent many Black Dogs from pursuing.
Manon and Beatrice, like Milly, also incapacitated many Black Dogs by shooting them with poisoned arrows or targeting their front legs.
After some time, 20 or 30 of the Black Dogs were weakened or lost their legs and began to struggle, and no new Black Dogs came out of the forest.
So I prepare to retreat.
”Manon! Beatrice! Go ahead and check the retreat route, and set up that thing in the village.”
””Yes””
The two of them ran towards the village to carry out my instructions.
About ten Black Dogs saw what was happening and jumped out, trying to chase after Manon and the others.
In a panic, Lina’s fireball struck the Black Dogs who were still clustered together as they chased after us.
Boom!
The one that was directly hit exploded, and the 4 surrounding ones were injured by the blast.
”Kent, I’ve used up all my magic now. All that’s left is the magic stones, so I’ll have to conserve it.”
It’s understandable that Lina’s magic was exhausted from casting big spells since morning, but since we don’t have that many magic stones either, it’s inevitable that our firepower will drop.
I could have Talia share her magic, but it wouldn’t be worth reducing our lifeline’s Healing Magic just to attack.
The 5 remaining Black Dogs turned towards us.
And then, they were easily incapacitated by Milly and Aurelia.
Aurelia was going around, stabbing her sword into the throats of the incapacitated Black Dogs to finish them off.
”Hurry up and absorb the magic elements, and wrap yourself in a mysterious light. Kukuku.”
That’s scary, way too scary, Aurelia.
I felt fear while watching Aurelia gazing at her beloved sword.
I firmly vowed to take her sword away during our intimate moments.
While I was thinking about such things, the sound of an arrow signaling reached our ears.
Whooooosh!
”Everyone, it’s the signal! Run to the village! Hurry!”
We took off running towards the village at full speed.
Seeing this, the Black Dogs came rushing out of the forest.
Fortunately, there was enough distance between them, so everyone arrived safely, closed the fence, and headed toward the central square.
There was a wagon with a farm horse tied to it in the square.
It was provided by Villager.
”Sir Kent. I’ve finished installing that thing-nya”
”There are no more enemies in the north.”
Two people in the square reported this.
Meanwhile, Black Dog has reached the fence and is ramming into it, trying to break it down.
”Okay, let’s run away! Annabella, Lina, Talia, Manon and Beatrice, get in the wagon! Me, Milly and Aurelia are running.”
”Yes”
We opened the northern gate and fled with the wagon.
I thought running while wearing heavy armor would be tough, but thanks to having multiple jobs, the weight of the armor didn’t bother me much, and it felt like I was running in everyday clothes.
”Sir Kent, the Black Dogs have broken through the gate and invaded the village-nya. There are about 50 of them-nya”
We managed to gain quite a distance while the Black Dogs were breaking through the gate.
Furthermore, reports kept coming in from the two who were scouting the situation in the village.
”Kent. It seems the Black Dogs have found and eaten that stuff. Those that ate it are foaming at the mouth”
That stuff refers to the tasteless and odorless poison created by Milly, mixed with a fragrance that attracts Lana’s special monsters and dusted onto dried meat.
In other words, we had placed poison-laced meat that smelled good all around the village.
”About 30 of them got caught in the trap. Moreover, those who invaded the village seem to have lost track of Bea due to the smell of the fragrance”
It seems that the poisoned meat trap was a huge success.
With nearly a hundred incapacitated or defeated, and if we include Godard’s villagers, we could end up with a ratio of 50 to a hundred, or 1:2, so they likely won’t be completely wiped out.
Even while running, I felt some relief at the success of the operation.
