Volume 3 Chapter 21 Kent Becomes The Southern General

The monsters attacking around Abyss Vena started to go away, thanks to the hard work of the Hunting Groups.
We also joined several cleanup missions.
During those times, I mostly watched as my new partner Carly and Lina used powerful magic to defeat the enemies.
Carly became very respected by the Hunting Group members and the Godard Clan because of her strength, but I noticed her nose getting bigger with pride as if it was normal.
She is really happy about it.
Even if she doesn’t like it, it seems people feel good when they are praised.
If she had shown even a little smile here, she could have shared the popularity of monster hunting with Milly.
Carly has allowed me to be close to her, but to protect her pride as a True Demon, she openly says she will kill me after she pays back her debts.
But I think she won’t actually kill me, because while she pretends to hate it, she gives me looks that show she likes me.
Also, it seems she decided to wear a magic-absorbing pendant and work as a Maid for Annabella.
I don’t really know how she feels inside, but she seems to follow Annabella’s orders calmly.
However, she seems to be really bad at housework skills, and I’ve seen her getting scolded many times.
Carly’s job as a Maid will be to take care of me.
Meanwhile, thanks to my careful nursing, Ms. Lila has regained her vitality and is now able to work with Helga on a huge amount of paperwork.
The title of former Secretary to the leader was not just for show, and the accumulated documents were cleared in no time.
However, I’m sure she’s happy to have a son, so please don’t try to feed me at mealtimes.
It’s totally fine if it’s just the two of us…
And now, we are in the final stages of the cleanup, with Carly and the others hunting down the monsters.
Because I was bored, I opened the sex slave list from the menu to try to understand the abilities of the two.
Let’s start with Lila.

There is a new job.
[Clerk] and [Architect], but both are General Jobs.
[Clerk] is probably a higher job than [Accountant]. The skills are like [Sharp] and [Administration], so it seems like a military administrator job. It will be a strong help for me, who has a territory.
[Architect] literally helps with building designs and city planning.
I heard Lila was helping behind the scenes under Milly’s father, Gwain, so it seems she has this wonderful government skill.
Still, I’m glad Lila came to us.
With her, the development of the new territory should go smoothly.
I thought she was too good a person to let her waste away at Gwain’s place.
After taking into account Skill.
I have decided to appoint Lila as the person in charge of developing the territory.
Rather than me interfering, I’ll let Lila do what she wants and I’ll focus on processing petitions from the people and defeating monsters.
If you add Helga and Nannie to the support, they will be very useful.
Next is Carlamia.

Carly also had a new job.
It is [Elementalist].
According to Carly, this job can only be given to a True Demon, who is a direct descendant of Orphée Bleu.
This job can take 6 magic elements (fire, ice, wind, earth, light, dark) from magic (mana) and add them to magic.
This means that during normal times, it can change single target attacks into area attacks or make weak magic stronger.
I thought that was amazing since Carly is a descendant of Orphée Bleu, the creator of magic, but I won’t praise her because it might go to her head.
Carly is a magic-specialized firepower class, so she has no ability as a maid, but if she pairs up with Lina, she can be trusted to wipe out the small fry with the compound magic they’re using now.
She will be useful in a large-scale invasion like this one, but for small-scale subjugation, she may be a bit over-specced.
Also, she can’t use strong magic outside of the hunting grounds.
During normal quests, she will probably get help from Support Magic to boost the party’s abilities.
If she doesn’t like it, I will be nice to her when she works with the Majin members.
I was very happy to have 2 strong side partners in both fighting and studying.
Soon, the cleanup mission ended.
When I returned to the mansion, a messenger came from my father-in-law asking me to hurry to the castle.
I went to my father-in-law’s castle with Milly.

When we arrived at the castle, we were taken to the office.
Next to my father-in-law stood a trusted man who protected the western garrison.
”I have come because my father-in-law Kent Blackdagger called for me”
”I called you today because a messenger from the capital just arrived. Kent was approved as the Southern General and Baron Blackdagger’s rank by His Majesty. They say I have told His Majesty that I will hold the ceremony for the appointment. This means that officially, the eastern garrison is now Kent’s land”
”Oh, my father-in-law really pressured the officials near His Majesty in the capital. So, will they send troops to the west?”
”The foolish people in the capital didn’t send reinforcements even after ten days. So, when I forced the military officials who came to check the situation to join the monster-hunting team, reinforcements arrived in 3 days.”
”Father-in-law is quite bold. But still, it will be a problem if the new general for the western troops is useless.”
”He is my brother’s chosen general. He may not be useless, but he is a bit difficult to work with.”
Apparently, the new general in the west is a personal subordinate of Milly’s father, Gwain.
Well, I guess it’s like he’s watching over his younger brother and his daughter.
Whether we can get along depends on how the other side responds.
”But why didn’t the royal capital send reinforcements? You know that if Abyss Vena falls, monsters will come flooding in, right?”
”The royal aides seem to dislike me having power in the south. I have the same authority as His Majesty in the southern borderlands, so they don’t want me to have power, but at the same time, they don’t want me to be wiped out by monsters.”
”You’re a good bodyguard, aren’t you?”
”That’s true. So I will definitely collect the bodyguard fee. This time, because of the big attack, nearly 3 hundred people from the town and hunters got hurt or died. I will make sure to get their funeral money and medical help from the kingdom.”
