”Sir Kent, can’t you take me with you!”
Annabella frantically asked me.
I decided to leave Annabella, Ines, Talia, and Feria out of the search party this time because of the concern that, just in case we ran into a beast monster, their hunting experience is about the same level as mine, which is minimal.
One burden is enough with just me.
”Annabella will oversee everything for the Blackdagger family as Giuliana’s representative, and also Milly’s.”
”Sir Kent… understood.”
”I’m counting on you for Ines and the others too.”
”Yes.”
Once I was ready, I organized a search party with Giuliana included, climbed aboard the hunting carriage, and headed toward the castle gates.
The castle gates were crowded with returning Monster Hunters and Trappers.
We drove the carriage against the flow of people toward the castle gates.
The guards at the gates questioned us.
”You in that carriage! Currently, Abyss Vena is restricting exit from the castle. Turn back!”
I peeked out of the carriage and spoke to the guard who questioned us while showing him the Dream Demon Black Dagger.
”I am Kent Blackdagger. I was asked for a confidential quest by the Margrave. Sorry, but I need to pass.”
”Ah, this is… Lord Kent of the Blackdagger family. A confidential quest, I see. Understood. There are beast monsters approaching outside, so please take care. Safe travels!”
The guard trusted my story and guided me to the castle gate amid the throngs of returnees.
After thanking the guard, I headed to the place where I thought the monster from the quest Aida and her friends had received was wandering around.

After about ten minutes of riding in the carriage, we came to a forest with lush trees.
This forest is apparently a place where the monsters that Aida and her friends received quests for often appear.
”Giuliana. Where do you think Aida and the others are?”
”They heard the bell, and they must have returned. Perhaps they have entered a cave in the forest.”
Giuliana is concerned because she heard the target for subjugation is a giant bat, and it’s hiding in a cave nearby during the day, so Aida and the others might miss the sound of the bell while exploring the cave.
I share Giuliana’s opinion, so I directed the carriage towards the cave.
When we arrived at the cave, there were footprints left behind nearby a puddle formed by water at the entrance, indicating someone had entered.
”I wonder if they really went inside.”
”I think so.”
”Bea and Non-Non (Manon) will scout ahead and call AidAid. Kent, you stay here.”
I thought it would be more efficient for the two with [Exploration] and [Detection] skills to go rather than everyone entering together.
”Understood. Beatrice, Manon, I’m counting on you. If you encounter a monster, don’t force a fight. Got it?”
”Got it. If you leave it to Bea, it will be taken care of quickly.”
”Sir Kent, you can leave Ms. Beatrice’s backup to me-nya!”
The two jumped out of the carriage and disappeared into the dimly lit cave, even in daylight.
After a short period of keeping watch around the area, suddenly, a terrifyingly loud roar echoed.
”That roar just now… could it be from a beast monster?”
”I think so. It’s also my first time encountering a beast monster, so I can’t say for sure.”
”Kent… we need to be prepared to run, because if we reunite with Aida, we’ll have to escape quickly or we’ll get eaten.”
”But Ms. Miriallia and other A and S ranks are out hunting beast monsters, right? And yet, when you think that the beast monsters have come this close to Abyss Vena… that’s…”
Lana is implying that the extermination team of advanced-level hunters may have been annihilated as well.
I’m confident that Milly wouldn’t die and leave me behind, so I don’t think the extermination squad was annihilated.
However, they may be struggling because they can’t gather enough people.
”It’s fine, Milly won’t leave me behind to die, and there’s no way A-rank and S-Class Hunters are weak enough to be easily devoured by beast monsters. They’re just having a bit of a tough time.”
”I want to believe that.”
Feeling a little worried, I decided to climb a nearby tall tree to get a better view of the surroundings.
Once I climbed the tall tree, the view opened up, and I could see the area much better.
I could see the walls of Abyss Vena clearly.
Within that, there was a place where the trees were unnaturally knocked down.
As I peered closely, I could faintly see a silver mass knocking down the trees.
Could that be the beast monster?
I noticed that the silver mass was emitting a magical light as it rampaged through the forest.
It seemed like the extermination team was still fighting.
Having spotted the magical light, I was convinced that the extermination team was still in combat with the beast monster.
However, perhaps they were short on numbers or lacked Magicians, as the emitted magical light was sporadic.
Climbing down the tree, I relayed what I had seen to everyone.
”The extermination team is still alive. But it seems they are having a tough time.”
”Did you see it?”
”Yeah, pretty close. Just as Lina said, it would be best to run away after meeting up with Aida.”
While I was talking with Lana and the others, I was hoping the search for Beatrice and the others would wrap up quickly.
After a while, Beatrice and the others came back.
However, Aida’s party was not following behind them.
”Kent, AidAid wasn’t there”
”I tried really hard to find them, but they weren’t here-nya. By the way, I didn’t see any giant bats, even though they’re usually plentiful here-nya.”
”Could it be that there was no target to hunt, so they headed elsewhere… Giuliana, where else could be a cave that could be a giant bat’s nest?”
”Anywhere but here, the extermination squad will be fighting the beast monster. What will you do, Lord Kent?”
I can’t abandon them, so I have no choice but to go, but if I get too close to the beast monster, I might get caught up in it.
I made the decision to head towards the other cave, even as I struggled with my judgment.
However, I plan to escape immediately if we encounter a beast monster.
There’s also a chance that Aida might have returned without me realizing it.
Once I made up my mind, I directed the carriage towards the destination and set it in motion.
As I drove the carriage through the trees, Beatrice, who was on alert, warned me.
”Kent, something is coming! Be careful!”
Taking Beatrice’s warning into account, I slowed down the carriage.
Then, something fell from the trees above.
It turned out to be Milly, dressed in tattered leather armor.
”Milly! Are you okay? Lana! Please use your Healing Light. She’s in such bad shape!”
Looking closer, I saw Milly was cradling a succubus woman who had lost one arm.
When I approached Milly, a sharp pain shot through my cheek.
Smack!
Milly, with tears in her eyes, slapped my cheek.
”I thought something was off because our hunting carriage was here. Kent! Why are you wandering around in a place like this? You shouldn’t be able to leave the castle!”
I flinched at Milly’s fierce tone.
”Actually, Aida and the others hasn’t returned, and I came to look for them. I would never fight a beast monster.”
”Beast monsters only devour anyone nearby! Plus, the search for the subordinates should be left to them! That’s not something the leader Kent should be doing!”
”I’m sorry, I took Lord Kent’s kindness for granted. I should have led the search.”
Giuliana bows her head and apologizes to Milly.
That is certainly the way to go, but since Aida is also my concubine, I think I have a duty to search for her.
I understand Milly’s anger, but we can’t give in.
”Milly, I’m sorry but I’m going to keep looking for Aida. Anyway, what happened to the girl?”
”Kent… this place has become really dangerous. What if Kent turns out like this girl? She had her arm ripped off by Silver Tiger and was about to be burned to death by a fire bullet, but I saved her.”
The succubus woman being held has lost one arm, her complexion is pale, and she seems to be unconscious.
I can’t say for sure that I won’t end up like that, but Milly is way too much of a worrywart.
”It’s fine, once we regroup with Aida, we’ll escape into the castle right away. Plus, we need to show that girl to Lana too.”
”Got it, Kent. But as soon as we pick up Aida, we need to get out of here. Also, please take care of that girl.”
I received the girl that Milly was holding, laid her down in the carriage, and told Lana to examine her wounds.
Milly watched this but soon said she was going back to hunt the beast monsters and vanished into the forest.
”Mr. Kent, I’ve finished the hemorrhage control for the girl you entrusted to me. Since the severed arm was also included, I was able to join the severed parts with recovery magic. After a short while of healing light treatment, she should regain consciousness.”
”I see, thank you, Lana.”
Since Milly had left, I directed the carriage back toward the intended cave.
Eventually, upon arriving at the cave we were headed for, just as I expected, I ran into Aida and her group, who had just finished hunting inside the cave and were coming out.
”Huh? It’s Kent! What’s up? Oh! Wait, are you chasing after me to relieve yourself at my place?”
”Ah, Aida. I don’t really understand what you mean, but this is an emergency. Hurry and get the members onto the carriage. We’re in a hurry! Quickly! Quickly!”
After loading Aida’s party members, who didn’t understand the situation, onto the second carriage, I called out to Manon, who was driving.
Then, right away, the carriage started moving and rushed toward Abyss Vena.
”Kent, what happened? Can you explain it so I can understand?”
Aida doesn’t seem to understand why I’m so anxious.
I decided to give you the details briefly.
”Right now, a beast monster is coming towards Abyss Vena, and the place where Milly’s advanced-level hunter extermination team is fighting is very close. So, I’m going to hurry and escape to Abyss Vena before I get caught up in it.”
”Seriously! Is that the beast monster? It’s the strongest and worst monster in this world, born from the crossbreeding of another world monster and a regular monster!”
”Ah, that’s why we’re running at full speed. Did you understand?”
”Got it. There’s no choice but to run away now.”
When Aida grasped the situation, the carriage that had been running at full speed suddenly stopped with a jolt.
Wondering what was going on, I called out to the driver, Manon, from the window.
”Manon, what’s wrong? Hurry up and get us moving!”
”K-Kent… It’s the worst-nya!”
Pointing in the direction Manon indicated, I saw a silver mound.
Upon closer look, it was a silver tiger.
Its silver fur was scorched in places, and black particles were leaking out from its body, but its red eyes were still full of light.
As the silver tiger roared at us in a threatening manner, everything from the carriage body to us trembled violently.
”No way! Manon! Just run for now! If we stop, we’re done for! And Lina! Just throw a Fire Arrow or fireball for some distraction!”
Backing my body from the window of the moving carriage, I conveyed the situation to Aida’s party.
”Aida. We’re in a critical situation right now. It seems a beast monster has targeted us. I told Manon to run with all her might, but there’s a chance it could catch up. I’m sorry, but can I borrow Elitzina? I’ll hold it off with Lina as well.”
”No way. This is really bad! But it can’t be helped, we’ll all do our best to survive! I’ll lend Kent a spare!”
