Volume 5 Chapter 4 Your Highness

Ludmila immediately expressed her discontent with my words.

”So you are Lord Blackdagger! Do you know that I, the princess of the Black Dragon Dukedom, am here!? Why must I have to sleep in such a shabby barrack!? Can’t you show a bit of consideration for me, the noble princess, by allowing me to use a room in this splendid castle instead?”

Ludmila demanded an improvement in her living accommodations, just as I had imagined, in her high-handed manner.

Even though it was shabby, I had provided the officers’ quarters in the military camp for Ludmila and the others.

Indeed, it might have been a cramped room for a princess of the realm.

”I was aware that Lady Ludmila is the princess of the Black Dragon, but due to your sudden visit, we couldn’t prepare a room in time. I apologize.”

Granting accommodation to Ludmila was dangerous for 2 reasons.

One was the increased risk of Ludmila unexpectedly encountering Dee, leading to the chance of Dee’s existence being revealed, and the second was the growing danger of losing control over my desires.

Rosvita, who stood next to Ludmila, muttered quietly.

”…That stalion’s daughter dares to call herself the Black Dragon princess… what a laugh…”

 ”What did you say, Rosvita?”

As the two began to glare at each other, the atmosphere around them became tense.

I thought their animosity was excessive, but from Rosvita’s perspective, having served as a trusted aide to Fabulanova, it must have been bitter for the daughter of Ugno, who had no track record in the Dukedom’s administration, to claim the title of princess.

If Rosvita were to learn about Dee’s existence, she would likely take great delight in plotting Ludmila’s downfall.

Fabulanova seemed to be keeping Dee’s existence hidden, even from Rosvita, one of her closest aides, out of concern for that scenario.

”W-well then, please calm down, both of you. I will speak to my father-in-law and arrange for a noble residence in Abyss Vena for Lady Ludmila.”

”Oh, I see that you are indeed the son-in-law of Margrave Heido. Very well then, I shall endure staying at the noble residence in Abyss Vena. Prepare it by the end of the day.”

”Understood. Does Lady Rosvita have any requests?”

Rosvita, who was bitterly watching Ludmila’s whims, calmly answered my question.

”Then, I would like a campsite where my soldiers can stretch their wings, even if it’s on the outskirts. It feels a bit cramped in the military camp. My apologies to Lord Blackdagger, but I humbly ask for your cooperation.”

Rosvita bowed her head slightly to me.

Her request was for a campsite where her Dragonewt subordinates could rest freely.

It was understandable since the Dragonewt species, when in dragon form, could reach lengths of ten meters and heights of 5 meters, making a military camp feel cramped.

”I understand. I will promptly begin selecting candidate sites. I will hurry so that we can set up camp by tomorrow.”

 ”Thank you for your consideration.”

Ludmila, hearing Rosvita’s request, muttered quietly.

”…Rosvita the White Pig’s demand is a much more expensive one…”

”Did you say something? Princess Ludmila, Your Highness.”

Awkward, there’s definitely some sparks flying here…

I was starting to want to withdraw from being the mediator between these two.

Both of them are members of the True Demon Kingdom’s strongest clan, the Black Dragon clan, Dragonia, and could battle thousands of soldiers on equal footing.

If they got into a serious fight here, not only would the castle be affected, but Estfort might also turn to ashes.

”Now, now, we have the monster extermination battle coming up, so please get along. If you lack coordination, the monsters will exploit that and catch us off guard.”

”A thousand or 2 thousand monsters are no match for me. I had already conveyed to Lady Fabulanova that we could handle this assignment alone, yet Rosvita decided to join me uninvited.”

”I am Lady Fabulanova’s appointed military supervisor. I am tasked with educating Lady Ludmila so that she does not make any blunders on her first battle.”

Fabulanova might be trying to prevent her brother Ugno from using his faction’s power to create a fait accompli for the kingdom’s cooperation, by having her trusted aide monitor the situation as a military overseer, and perhaps even plotting to sabotage the expeditionary force of Ludmila.

While I didn’t want to get caught up in their sibling rivalry, I was reconfirming that, in the worst-case scenario, I would have no choice but to get involved in the internal strife of the Black Dragon Dukedom.

 ”…sigh… what a hassle…”

 ””Did you say something?””

 ”No! Nothing at all.”

”Then, since my business is done, I’ll take my leave. The matter regarding the estate is due today! I expect to see Lord Blackdagger’s capabilities.”

Ludmila shot me a provocative glance.

 However, I wasn’t flustered.

The Blackdagger family’s assets included real estate, so I owned several rental properties in Abyss Vena.

These were mainly acquired as collateral for loans given to Nobles during Milly’s time as head of the family, and I had sold them all once for the development costs of Estfort.

However, due to the reorganization of southern Nobles by my father-in-law, many Nobles had their salaries and pensions reduced, leading to several properties that were collateral from Nobles who had defaulted on their loans.

”I have several properties available, so please choose one you like. I will provide a guide. In the meantime, I will obtain permission from my father-in-law. Feria, Ines. I entrust you with guiding Your Highness Ludmila.”

The maids Feria and Ines, who had been standing nearby, approached.

Ludmila looked at the two of them with a puzzled expression.

”Are the guides maids? I feel insulted. How can a mere maid serve as a guide! That’s it! I demand Lady Miriallia as my guide!”

”Lady Ludmila, my wife Miriallia is away on business. However, those 2 maids are my concubines.”

Ludmila directed an intrigued gaze at Feria and Ines.

”Is that so? Lord Blackdagger takes pleasure in dressing his concubines in maid outfits. How peculiar!”

Ludmila shot me a contemptuous glance.

Feria and Ines stood in a way to block that gaze.

”Your Highness Ludmila, we will be your guides. May we prepare for you?”

”I know we may not be the guides you wanted, but we will do our best.”

Receiving the serious gazes from the two, Ludmila seemed to have decided to go along quietly.

”O-Okay. I was just joking. Forgive me.”

”Your Highness Ludmila… I wish you wouldn’t create unnecessary friction… If you’re incompetent, you should just focus on having children…”

Rosvita also seemed exasperated by Ludmila’s lack of consideration.

Thus, the audience with the representative of the Black Dragon clan came to a close.

Ludmila, a 152-year-old female of the Black Dragon clan, Dragonia… the daughter of Ugno and holds the second rank in the succession to the Dukedom of the Black Dragon.

She holds the status of Your Highness.

Her shallow thinking and arrogant speech often lead to trouble.

Rosvita, an 829-year-old female of the Black Dragon clan, was discovered by Fabulanova and rose to become a high-ranking official in the Dukedom.

Unusually for the Black Dragon clan, she has white skin and a voluptuous body, leading some ill-mannered people to call her “White Pig.”
