Volume 6 Chapter 9 The Rebellion Of The Ghost Clan

*Gertroud’s Perspective
”Sir Gertroud, we have completed the suppression of the Lawrence territory.”
Although we had already captured the castle and finished off the Lord Lawrence, the battle with the self-defense militia that had holed up in the town was dragging on.
However, it seemed that the situation was resolved with the arrival of my adjutant.
”Good work. I have some business to attend to, so kill the male prisoners among themselves, and bring me the survivors. Distribute the women among everyone.”
”Yes, sir, I shall follow your instructions.”
The man serving as my adjutant ran off to carry out my instructions.
Left alone, I opened the hidden door leading to the underground Treasure Warehouse in a chapel outside the Lawrence castle.
I walked alone through the underground passage filled with a musty odor.
The foundation of the Lawrence territory was ancient.
Originally, it was one of the palaces I built immediately after my fall from grace, but nearly 3 thousand years had passed since my death, and it seemed that those who knew the entrance to this underground Treasure Warehouse had already disappeared.
The light from the magic illuminated the underground passage dimly.
After walking for a while, a room with a wide ceiling appeared.
In the center, a colossal statue depicting my past form sat enthroned.
This place was originally the Treasure Warehouse of the palace, but after 3 thousand years, the upper palace had vanished.
However, the Treasure Warehouse, built underground, seemed to have withstood the test of time without erosion.
”This place is still the same as before.”
As I stepped into the Treasure Warehouse, my entire body was scanned thoroughly.
It was a security device designed to scan for magic and only allow entry to me or those connected to my bloodline.
Since the host’s magic had already been altered to match my wavelength, the security device did not activate.
I had a reason for coming to this palace’s Treasure Warehouse.
That reason was because the item [Ghost’s Flute] that I made to control the Ghost Clan for fun during my Demon Lord era was stored here.
I attacked the Lawrence territory, where the palace was located, to incorporate the Ghost Clan living throughout the magic continent.
I found the desired item, the [Ghost’s Flute], in the treasury.
I made the [Ghost’s Flute] on a whim during the Demon Lord era, creating a tool to control the Ghost Clan using the sound of the flute, despite their inability to understand Western Language.
However, as the number of people increased, this tool eventually fell out of use.
This [Ghost’s Flute] can send instructions at a wavelength only audible to the Ghost Clan I created, affecting the entire continent.
There is just one drawback: it does not work on individuals who have learned Western Language.
”To think I have to rely on an artifact from the Demon Lord era… I’ve really fallen far.”
I mocked myself for being in a situation where I had to rely on something like the [Ghost’s Flute], but I decided to endure this temporary humiliation, knowing that everything would be resolved once I regained Kent’s body.
I also rummaged through treasures I had ignored during the Demon Lord era.
I discovered the [Staff of the Dead] and the [Anti-Magic Armor] and decided to use them.
All of these were magic-enhanced equipment I created as a pastime during my stay in this palace.
The [Staff of the Dead] is a staff that allows me to control nearby corpses as ‘living dead (zombies)’, which was a valuable weapon during battles with the native Garuda Clan, but it has the flaw of going berserk if I control the ‘living dead (zombies)’ for too long, so I didn’t use it after unification.
The other item, the [Anti-Magic Armor], is an armor I enhanced with magic that negates spells by downgrading Divine Magic to make it easier to handle.
While it can completely negate magic, it lacks defensive power as armor, and with my current status, I do not have overwhelming magical power, so I have no choice but to use it.
I also acquired many high-purity magic stones to help restore my magic, but I couldn’t gather enough power to remove the bothersome shackles of Sazukrain.
”I can finally catch my breath. I’ll use the [Ghost’s Flute] to shake Kent up!”
I left the treasury.

*Kent’s perspective
When I returned to my territory and entered my study, Giuliana immediately rushed in.
We’ve both been busy lately, and I hadn’t been able to see her, so I thought maybe she was frustrated and had come to my study out of that.
”Lord Kent. It’s terrible. The Ghost Clan living in the Southern Region is gathering toward Felward Fortress one after another. A kobold messenger came to me and informed me of the situation.”
Since Giuliana became the Hunting Group Leader of the Red Valkyrie, she has become more conscious of her Western Language. So I gave her the Eloquence ring as a gift.
Because of that, her pronunciation of Western Language, which used to be broken, has become fluent.
And, as my concubine, she had been serving as the representative of the Ghost Clan in Estfort.
The Ghost Clan living in Estfort and my territory have mostly become kobolds, goblins, and ogre species who can speak Western Language, but those were just a small number compared to the entire Ghost Clan.
”What? The Ghost Clan is gathering at Felward Fortress? Could they be monsterizing?”
When I asked Giuliana for confirmation of the situation, the kobold-like man next to her started making a commotion.
”We were returning to our village when the young men suddenly stopped listening to us and started walking north aimlessly. We followed them, and when we arrived at Felward Fortress, we saw not only kobolds but also goblins and ogres! This is terrible, so I rushed to Big Sis Giuliana, whom we respect. You are Lord Kent’s man, the Majin Clan, right?”
The man with a dog-like face was talking earnestly.
”Hey! Bruyne! It’s Sir Kent or Lord Kent! Don’t forget that you are receiving a stipend from Lord Kent as the Ghost Clan officer for Estfort!”
Scolding Bruyne, Giuliana had her tail tucked between her legs, drooping.
”Sorry…I can’t go against Sis Giuliana. Hey, Majin Clan…no, Kent…Lord, Bruyne will apologize!”
”Ooh! This must be the Ghost Clan officer Giuliana was talking about”
The Ghost Clan officer’s post was liaison with the many Ghost Clan residing in the Southern Region, and also to watch over them so they wouldn’t turn into monsters.
Usually, orcs who are less susceptible to magic element influences are given this post. Bruyne, a Kobold, was the first of his kind to be appointed as Ghost Clan officer, a hopeful star for the Kobold race.
Bruyne, after finding a group of scholars who had collapsed in the Southern Region as a child, obtained the [Ghost Language Ring] and [Ring of Longevity] and learned to understand the Western Language.
Thanks to that, he guided Monster Hunting parties exploring the Southern Region and, as the village head of the Kobold village, fought monsters to survive.
Giuliana, having been saved by Bruyne during work in the Southern Region, felt indebted to him and Bruyne, in turn, unilaterally proposed a sisterhood pact.
Since then, he often visited Abyss Vena, so Giuliana recommended Bruyne as the Ghost Clan officer for my territory.
Bruyne, despite being a Kobold, possesses exceptional longevity for his race thanks to the Skill effect of the [Bracelet of Longevity]. His Skills and Jobs also grow at a rate that surpasses even the Majin Clan, making him a powerful Ghost Clan member.
”Oh, w-what are you doing! No, stop”
”Oh! Mr. Kent! Can Feria have this doggy? Can she?”
With the door left open, Feria appeared and began petting Bruyne.
”I take good care of my fur, you know! Hey! Don’t touch Majin People!”
”It’s all fluffy! I’ve finally gotten my own fluffy one. Ludge is smooth and hard, you know?”
Ludge is the name of the Dragonewt that Feria rides as [Maid Dragon].
Although still young, this Dragonewt ranks at the top in terms of ability.
Well, however, due to being ambushed by Feria, he ended up as her mount, but it seems he is okay with it.
By the way, Ines also has a Dragonewt as a mount; this one is called Flander, and he is paired with Ludge.
”Feria… Bryune is technically my bureaucrat, so I won’t give him up.”
”What! This little dog is a high-ranking official? No way! But if he’s Mr. Kent’s subordinate, then he should be usable, right?”
Come on, I’d like her to stop mixing business with pleasure.
Feria should be re-educated by Annabella once.
She’s been too free lately.
”I’m not a dog! I’m a Ghost Clan Kobold! This is why the lowbrow Majin People are so troublesome!”
”Ah, my apologies. Our Maid is a bit unique, you see. Getting back to the topic at hand, does this mean that the Southern Region’s Ghost Clan is besieging Felward fort?”
Bryune, having escaped Feria’s petting attack, nodded while fixing his fur.
”That’s righto, everyone has stopped listening to me. Plus, they’ve been spouting, ‘It’s the Demon Lord’s order!’ like it’s a catchphrase!”
”Lord Kent, I became curious and sent a reconnaissance to the Ogre village, but it was empty as well. It seems they headed towards Felward.”
Giuliana seemed interested in Bryune’s report too, and she asked a mid-level Hunter to confirm. The information they brought back matched Bryune’s report.
”Sir Kent! An urgent message has just arrived from Felward!”
As I was receiving reports from Giuliana, an officer from the Estfort Army burst into the office.
Hearing it was a message from Felward, an uneasy feeling washed over me.
”What’s wrong?”
”It’s an urgent request for reinforcements from Mr. Soumei, stationed at Felward Fortress. The fortress is under siege and being attacked by the Ghost Clan. Furthermore, the ‘another world monster’ from the Abyss Gate has begun flooding into the Felward area, targeting the Ghost Clan.”
As I expected, the Ghost Clan gathered at Felward had begun attacking the fortress.
However, I never imagined they would draw in the ‘another world monster’ from the Abyss Gate.
”How many Ghost Clan members are gathered?”
”We’ve received reports that it’s nearing ten thousand. There are approximately 5 hundred Small-sized, 100 Medium-sized, and about 20 Large-sized ‘another world monsters’ confirmed.”
”What’s the total number of Monster Hunting forces stationed there?”
”The fighting force holed up in Felward is around 3 hundred, but they are all Intermediate-level Hunters or higher, so I don’t think they’ll fall easily.”
If top-tier Monster Hunters from Abyss Vena, led by Mr. Soumei, are holed up in Felward Fortress, it shouldn’t fall easily, but without sending reinforcements, they would likely wither away.
”Has the Ghost Clan turned into monsters?”
”No, it doesn’t seem to be due to monster transformation. Their skin color hasn’t changed to black. However, there seems to be no sign of self-awareness. They also don’t respond to calls in Ghost language.”
The Ghost Clan might be under someone’s control, just as Bruyne said.
The ‘Demon Lord’ mentioned by the Ghost Clan is definitely not the current Demon Lord.
In that case, the only Demon Lord that comes to mind is the first Demon Lord Orphée Bleu, who is parasitically linked to Gertroud.
Is Orphée Bleu controlling the Ghost Clan with some kind of magic…?
”There’s no time to hesitate. I feel bad for the Ghost Clan, but they will be targeted for extermination since they have violated the kingdom’s territory under the Southern Pact. I apologize to Bruyne, but I’ll have to take them down.”
”…It can’t be helped. It’s the villagers who can’t keep their promises that are to blame… I’ll just give birth to lots more of my kind, so don’t worry.”
”I will accompany you. We must punish those who have lost the pride of the ogres.”
Both Bruyne and Giuliana remained unfazed upon hearing that their kin were being slaughtered.
The Ghost Clan has quite a dry perspective regarding the life and death of their kind.
It’s likely due to the strong principle of survival of the fittest that governs their race-dearu.
The Ghost Clan, having invaded Felward’s land, violated the agreement made between the Margrave and the Ghost Clan, which stated they would not infringe upon kingdom territory in exchange for food supply.
Therefore, there will be no complaints from anyone if they are exterminated.
Due to their low intelligence, the Ghost Clan has had many problems living with the other 7 tribes, leading them to often reside in the outskirts of various regions of the kingdom; in the south, they have established settlements in the Southern Region outside the walls.
”Understood. I’ll urgently convene a meeting. Gather all relevant parties.”
”Yes, sir!”
