Volume 8 Chapter 3 Tale Of Nokin Triumph – Prologue

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

 *Nokin’s perspective

I left Alonsa in Vildestia to handle the troublesome politics and domestic issues while I led a small group of soldiers on an expedition to eliminate the rogue Thieves and remnants of the Demon God Emperor’s forces that had sprung up in the war-torn East, thanks to the Demon God Emperor’s regime.

We had already secured the area around the Eastern Capital of Vildestia and the border of the South District, including the Roland territory, as well as Browning, Gorlbev, and Fenrir territories that had initially belonged to the Demon God Emperor.

Furthermore, we successfully liberated what Gertroud called the ‘Garden of Women’ in the Occlair territory, where women had been gathered and managed from subjugated and ravaged lands.

This region was granted as the territory of the ‘Garuda Principality’ from the True Demon Kingdom.

Thanks to Alonsa, I was able to obtain powers that rivaled that of a king…

To be honest, I only have memories from the past 6 months.

I don’t even remember why I joined the Demon God Emperor’s nation.

I’ve forgotten how I acquired my martial skills as well, as I was just fighting recklessly until I met Alonsa, who gave me a purpose and opened up a path for me.

Now, I found myself as the Great Clan Leader of the Garuda Clan and the High Chief of the Garuda Principality.

Alonsa skillfully utilizes my power… I just need to focus on defeating our foes as her sword.

In reality, Alonsa is a competent strategist, politician, schemer, and a devoted wife all in one.

After being officially appointed as the Garuda Clan Leader by Priestess Elkisa, I welcomed Alonsa as my rightful wife.

However, due to challenging times, we only held a simple ceremony, but I planned to have a grand wedding once things settled down.

This expedition was for that purpose.

By the way, this expeditionary force only has a small number of one thousand soldiers, but that’s because Porcha, who is financially backing the Garuda chieftain country, requested Alonsa to focus on rebuilding after the subjugation.

Alonsa also learned that Gwain, who became the Chancellor of the True Demon Dukedom, is eyeing the northeastern territories, so she wants to send an army quickly, but she also doesn’t want to upset Porcha, who is financially supporting them.

So she decided on this minimum force after a close call.

As for me, I thought a thousand soldiers were overkill for just a bunch of thieves and stragglers, but since Alonsa has to stay in Vildestia, it’s probably for safety’s sake.

This expedition is scheduled to liberate from Vildestia to Schuwelt territory, which is protected by the self-defense corps, and Oostenfort territory, where the thieves are running rampant.

If we liberate that much, we can warn Gwain, who is eyeing the northeast, and if his army advances, we can delay their advance until reinforcements arrive, Alonsa figured.

”Sir Nokin, we’re about to enter Schuwelt territory.”

My adjutant rode up to me and spoke.

”That’s right… this is where the self-defense corps is stationed. Is Lord not here?”

”This territory expelled the Lord who was conducting tyranny as soon as Gertroud’s rebellion broke out, and the residents established a self-defense organization and maintained neutrality. Even the Demon God Emperor’s national army tried to attack, but the self-defense corps repelled them successfully.”

”Wow, they repelled them… I was on a different front, so… then, maybe we shouldn’t fight?”

My answer turned my adjutant’s face pale.

”No, Sir Nokin! We’ve already sent a surrender envoy to the representative of Schuwelt territory, and they’ve accepted! Please refrain from fighting!”

I was joking, but my adjutant didn’t seem to get it.

For this expedition, I’ve already heard Alonsa talk about the seizure of the Schuwelt domain so many times it’s driven me crazy. I had no intention of fighting from the start.

”If that’s the case, let’s get into town and meet the representative.”

I decided to make my horse run.

”Sir Nokin! Please don’t go ahead alone! I’ll be killed by Lady Alonsa!!”

The Lieutenant changed color and ran after me.

The soldiers followed me and ran towards the town of Schuwelt.

When we got to town, the city gate was open, and a young man in his twenties and a man in his forties with their knees knocked were waiting in front of the gate.

”Are you the leaders of the self-defense force?”

The young man answered my question.

”Long time no see! Mr. Nokin has made a name for himself! The guy they called Wolffang is different!”

The young man spoke to me familiarly.

The older man next to him also seemed to know me, and he spoke to me familiarly as well.

”It’s been a while. Thank you for saving us back then. I heard you disappeared for a while after that and worried, but to become a king…”

”…Have you met me before? Sorry, I don’t know you.”

 ””What?””

The two of them were stunned after hearing my reply.

It seems like an unexpected answer.

”It’s me! It’s me! I’m Repulus who was Monster Hunting in South District!”

The young man identified himself as Repulus.

”Repulus… I don’t know that name… What is your relationship to me?”

”Mr. Nokin is my master. I won’t forget that. You said you’d take me on as a disciple, but you went on a job in the east and never came back, so I was looking for you. On the way, I met Mr. Bartram again, and when I was in this Schuwelt territory, I got caught up in Gertroud’s rebellion and became the self-defense captain!”

It seems the young man in front of me, named Repulus, was my disciple before I lost my memory.

Probably a martial arts disciple, but I couldn’t remember him at all.

 ”You’re saying I’m your master?”

The middle-aged man gave me a suspicious look as he asked.

”Don’t tell me… Mr. Nokin, have you lost your memory…?”

 Whoosh!

I thrust my greatsword at the man’s neck.

He didn’t collapse, but his face turned pale.

”You people… do you know about my past?”

”Surely you haven’t forgotten… We’re the carriage traders you helped during the great raid in the South District. Thanks to Mr. Nokin, Repulus, and those 4 ladies, we made the delivery to Abyss Vena on time, and my family was spared from the Lord of Schuwelt’s wrath. This time, my allegiance to the Garuda Principality with the Schuwelt’s self-defense force is a way of paying back the favor.”

”Mr. Bartram is the leader of the Lord’s exile movement. I, as the head of the self-defense force, agreed to the allegiance because I believe Mr. Nokin would protect the weak.”

These 2 seem to be people I helped before I lost my memory.

Though I have no recollection, they seem to hold me in high regard.

”So, you two know me from before I lost my memory. As Mr. Bartram pointed out, I’ve lost my memories from more than 6 months ago. This is something I’ve only told Alonsa. You say you know the old me. Who was I?”

”You were my mentor, a Monster Hunter specializing in escort quests. Your success rate was 100%, making you well-known in the South District. I don’t know much about your life before that, as you never told me.”

Repulus looked at me with a pained expression when he learned I had no memory.

”I just want to repay the kindness you showed me. Protecting a quester or a nation is just a matter of scale. I believe you can be trusted with the people of Schuwelt. I’ve told them about Sir Nokin, so there’s no opposition. Even without your memories, your essence remains the same──you protect the weak.”

Bartram’s words seemed to be mixed with flattery, but they also felt like a deep expression of trust in me.
