This is the unit where ambulance patients are treated—from first response to full diagnosis and care.
And now, an ambulance had pulled up outside, its sirens blaring.

The whole place had a different energy from any of their earlier fieldwork.

※A stretcher is a tool used to move patients who can’t walk or use a wheelchair, letting them lie down on their side or back.

The woman wasn’t Harue.
She only looked a little like Haruto’s mother.
But just for a second, he saw her.
And he panicked.
His whole body started shaking.
”O-Oi, Ichijou… You okay?”
”What’s wrong? You alright?”
One of his teammates noticed something was off.
They tried calling out to him.
But Haruto dropped what he was holding and rushed to the stretcher.
”M-Mom!!”
He ran over, grabbed the woman’s arm, and tried to use his ability.
Right away, a nearby nurse shouted and stopped him.
”Step back, now!”
But Haruto’s ability had already told him—
Her heart had stopped.
Pushing past the nurse, he grabbed the woman’s arm again.
He activated the ability.

The heart wouldn’t beat.
No matter how many times he tried, it didn’t work.
Then, a word came into his mind—
Something God had once told him.

His ability confirmed it.
The woman was already gone.
”Move! Take her and go!!”
A surgeon yelled, getting ready to start chest compressions.
Doctors and nurses pulled Haruto away.
”Sorry! We’re sorry!”
His teammates stepped in to hold him back, bowing quickly to the staff.
They held Haruto, still in shock, and walked him out.

The woman wasn’t his mother.
And he’d been suspended from university.
That’s all he remembered.

Haruto hadn’t left his apartment for days.
He wasn’t eating at all.
Akane came over every day to make him food.
But he wouldn’t touch any of it.

But today, Akane said something different.
”I’m staying over in your room tonight!”
”…Akane.”
”Huh? What is it?”
”…Let’s break up.”

”I’ve been lying to you this whole time.”
