Chapter 127 What Should I Do?
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
How many days had passed since everything started to fall apart?
Haruto didn’t know anymore. He didn’t even care.
Even when he tried to eat, his body pushed it away.
He could only drink water. He knew—people can only live two or three weeks like that.
(If it was going to end like this… I shouldn’t have kept my power secret…)
If his body was just going to grow weaker, if he was just going to die like this, then why didn’t he use his ability back then?
Why didn’t he heal those people suffering during the medical training?
Someone might say that thought sounds noble, even wise.
But that wasn’t the truth.
Haruto’s mind wasn’t clear. His thinking had fallen apart.
These weren’t thoughts based on reason—they came from guilt. From pain.
(If that’s true… then I didn’t have to hold it all in because of Mom…)
If he could return to the past…
Then maybe—yes, maybe—it wouldn’t have been so bad to become someone who used his body as a price for his healing. Even if it meant becoming someone like that with Harue.
”Haru-kun!”
As if from nowhere, a voice cut into his head.
”Haru-kun!”
He wasn’t imagining it this time. Someone really was calling him.
And then she appeared—just like he had seen in his mind—standing right there, in front of him.
”…Mom…”
Her eyes were wide. Her voice shook.
”Why… why did this happen? Haru, are you hurt?”
”…Hurt?…”
Harue stepped into the room. Her eyes dropped to the kitchen floor.
Sticky blood had dried across the tile.
Her heart jumped as she looked around.
Then she saw Haruto. Her eyes scanned him—his arms, his clothes.
”There’s blood on your arm, but… you don’t have any cuts. Wait… no way—”
Earlier that morning, Harue had gotten a call from Akane.
She boarded the first bullet train she could and rushed here.
Akane had told her everything.
The exhaustion. The breakdown during the medical training.
The fact Haruto hadn’t eaten.
That they had separated after the incident.
She’d also told Harue something that haunted her the whole ride over.
That Haruto… might be in despair.
That maybe he was giving up.
So now Harue had two fears battling inside her.
One: Haruto had coughed up blood.
Two: He had hurt Akane.
”…I… I’m not hurt…”
”Then what about Akane? Haruto… did something happen to her?”
”…Akane?… Hurt?… Did she get hurt?…”
”This blood—this is blood, right?”
”…Yeah… I’ll show you, Mom.”
Haruto slowly stood and walked to the kitchen.
But once he got there, he stopped.
His eyes moved around the room. Frantic.
(The kitchen knife… it’s gone…)
What he didn’t remember was that yesterday, Akane, still in shock, had come back with the knife.
Maybe she did it without thinking. Maybe it was instinct.
Maybe deep down, she still wanted to protect him.
Now, Haruto stood in the kitchen—confused, breathing hard.
Harue could see it.
Something in him wasn’t right.
His body was here, but his mind was lost.
”Haru-kun, let’s go to the hospital, okay?”
”What—? No! No, I don’t want to!”
”H-Haru?”
His face twisted. Eyes wide. He looked at her like she was a ghost.
Harue froze.
She had heard everything from Akane. She knew.
She knew how bad the hospital had been for him.
And yet, she had said it anyway.
She bit her lip. Regret burned inside her.
”I’m sorry, Haru-kun… I won’t say that again. We won’t go.”
She didn’t know if he heard her.
Didn’t know if he could hear her.
Haruto dropped to the floor, hugging his knees tight against his chest.
His whole body trembled.
(What should I do…? What am I supposed to do now?)
Harue had come as fast as she could.
But she never thought it would be this bad.
There were so many things she wanted to ask…
But she didn’t even know how to start.
She lowered herself slowly to the floor beside him.
Her hand reached out and covered his hand—soft, but steady.
”Haru-kun… can you talk to Mom? Can you tell me what happened?”
