Chapter 160 Training Doctor In Remote Areas IV
Edited by: Kanaa-senpai
(Hmm…? This feeling… where have I felt this before…?)
As Haruto gently massaged Yoshimi’s cheek, a strange sensation stirred in his fingertips. Something familiar—something he’d sensed once before.
(Where did I feel this…? That’s right… That tree—)
His thoughts drifted to the barren tree beside the clinic. No leaves, dry bark—but it had reacted to his healing ability. When he examined its cells, he had felt something… just like this.
(…But what exactly is this sensation?)
”Um, Doctor… Isn’t that enough already?”
”Huh? Oh—right! Sorry! You can wash your face now.”
Lost in thought, Haruto had continued applying the ointment long past the necessary amount. Yoshimi’s cheek was completely covered in white cream. He looked down and noticed the empty tube rolling across the floor.
Thud thud thud
”Wow! It’s really healing!”
”Really!? Let me see!”
Yoshimi returned from the sink, her cheek freshly washed. Beaming, she sprinted down the hallway to show her mother, voice full of excitement.
”It won’t fully heal with just one treatment,” Haruto called after her, “but you should already see some improvement.”
”Yes! I can see it!”
”If you combine this with your grandmother’s massage, it should heal completely.”
”I’ll do it! I’ll ask her right away!”
The girl bounced on her feet, pure joy on her face.
”This child is completely overjoyed…” her mother said with a gentle laugh. “But I understand now. The doctor’s massage isn’t suspicious at all. Please continue with the treatment—use my mother’s massage too.”
”Of course.”
Just like that, Haruto’s mysterious healing massage had earned their trust. He even treated the grandmother that same day and promised to return tomorrow for a follow-up.
That evening, after everyone had left, Haruto stepped outside and approached the tree with no leaves once more.
(This feeling really is the same…)
He rested his hand on the trunk again, letting the sensation wash over him. Then, with a curious look, he placed his other hand on his own chest—comparing the two.
(Wait… This can’t be… Is it possible?)
His expression shifted. He quickly pulled out his smartphone and began typing frantically.
”It’s real…! Plants have blood types too…?”
Unlike animals, plants don’t have blood—but they do have fluids containing sugar-based proteins. And just like in human blood, those proteins can define blood types: A, B, O, and AB.
Blood type tests for plants examine the sugar chains in their sap. Not every species can be classified, but research has documented several examples.
Type A / Type B:
* Aoki (Evergreen)
* Inuzuke (Evergreen)
* Kibushi (Evergreen)
* Tsurumasaki (Evergreen)
* Hisakaki (Evergreen)
* Celery
Type O / Type AB:
* Daikon (Radish)
* Soba (Buckwheat)
* Kabu (Turnip)
* Plum
* Grape
* Akebi
* Tsukami
* Itaya Maple
* Strawberry
* Rose
* Pear
* Burdock
* Enoki
* Cabbage
* Taro
And about maples? The red-colored kind usually carries Type O. The yellow ones? Type AB.
”…Fascinating,” Haruto muttered. “But… that girl was different, wasn’t she?”
It all started with the tree. Haruto had assumed it was dead, only to sense something lingering within. That vague, elusive sensation—it was only possible because a plant’s structure is far simpler than a human’s.
If Haruto had only ever treated people, he might never have noticed it.
But now… he could detect blood types. Not through tests, but through touch alone.
And yet… the sensation he felt when treating Yoshimi’s cheek wasn’t exactly the same as what he felt from the tree.
There was something else in that moment.
What was it?
What exactly was Haruto sensing…?
Notes:
• Yoshimi – Female. A high school girl who guides Haruto to her grandmother’s house. She is wary of doctors due to past experiences and becomes agitated when Haruto reveals her grandmother’s condition. Her relationship with Haruto is tense, and she sides with her family in distrusting him.
