Chapter 2 Chickenpox

I don’t know much about medicine.
The illnesses in this story are based on basic research.
So, the names, symptoms, and after-effects might be wrong.

Three-year-old Haruto loves bath time with Harue.
He’s excited to take a bath with her today.
”Mama! Mama!”
’Haru-kun…!!? What are those bumps?! Oh no, we have to go to the hospital!’
(Huh? Bumps?)
Haruto uses his ability on himself and instantly knows the cause.
(Ah, chickenpox. How dare you ruin my bath time! I’ll punish you!)
He heals it quickly, and the bumps disappear.
Harue, his mother, is surprised the bumps are gone, but takes him to the hospital anyway.
Since there are no traces left, they just observe him and go home.
In the end, they skip bath time that day, just to be safe.
He had some basic knowledge of chickenpox from his past life, so he treated it without a second thought.
But it would later cause a huge problem.

Haruto, age 4.
’Hey, Harue! Haruto has a rash on his face!’
Harue and Shouma rush him to the hospital, but the rash vanishes on the way.
The doctor can’t find anything wrong, so they go home.
Haruto, age 5.
Haruto, now able to move freely, sees a rash in the mirror by himself.
He treats it without his parents noticing.
Haruto, age 7.
Haruto starts first grade.
Harue wakes up early to make breakfast and panics when she sees Haruto sleeping next to her.
’Haruto!! Haruto!! Noooo!!’
Shouma, his father, jumps up, startled by Harue’s voice.
He sees Haruto covered in a rash, foaming at the mouth, and unconscious.
He grabs his phone and calls for an ambulance.
BEE-DOO BEE-DOO
Diagnosis: Chickenpox (Varicella).
He’s rushed to the hospital.
Haruto’s condition worsens, and he develops encephalitis. He falls into a coma.
Severe chickenpox has a high chance of death.
Mom, Harue, and dad, Shouma, were told by the doctor that even if Shouma regains consciousness, he might have lasting problems.
’It’s all my fault… Ugh… if only I had noticed sooner!!’
Harue cried out in shame. She felt useless. She had no idea what was coming.
’It’s not just your fault, Harue! I didn’t notice either! I’m responsible too!’
The two of them squeezed Shouma’s hand tightly and cried.
But even after 2 days, even after 3, Shouma’s eyes didn’t open.
Shouma should have been cured by a miracle gift from the gods.
But why is he like this?
Maybe he had bad luck and got sick while sleeping. He lost consciousness and couldn’t heal himself.
But the biggest problem?
He tried to treat chickenpox with only shallow knowledge.
That was the main cause of all this.
