Princess-Groomer 19

Chapter 19 Hellbeast Battle ①

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Mika Draguin had come alone from the Black Wing Corps, the unit she had left behind in the Royal Capital.

She had joined about a year ago and had risen through the ranks fast. Now she headed the intelligence division. Her current level was eighty-three. She wore her red kimono in that carefully messy way that Marqui remembered from the game. The hem was short, both shoulders were bare, and her cleavage was on full show.

The fortress soldiers were almost drooling as the beautiful woman with the black bob cut walked closer. But she had not come all this way for nothing. Whatever she had to say was sure to be important.

”The King is making moves I don’t know about?” Rosella asked.

Her doubt was easy to understand. The impostor king was a Demon God given by Lili Lim. He was supposed to be acting on Rosella’s orders.

”Marqui, has Elder Sister said anything?” Rosella asked.

 ”No,” Marqui said.

Right then, Lili Lim had gone back to her family home in the Demon Realm. One of Hell’s three major factions had started moving into the territory of the Lust faction. That was keeping her busy with damage control. Even the Cat Demon God could only shake her head when asked.

”For detailed information, it might be faster to ask him directly,” Mika said smoothly. “That’s why I’d like you, Your Highness Rosella, to write a royal decree asking for a meeting with the King.”

”Him” meant the impostor king. Only a few high-ranking officers knew the truth, that he was a fake.

”Agreed,” Rosella said. “Even if he thinks he’s acting in my best interest, I can’t have him making choices on his own. I’ll write it right away.”

The Shadow Demon God. That was the Demon God now playing the role of king. Level sixty-seven. That was low for a pre-final-battle opponent. In the game, a different Demon God had been the decoy. Marqui had felt an outside will trying to push the game’s events forward. But by the time they had put a puppet king in place, history had already changed. He had not been too worried.

”Mika, what moves from the King have you seen?” Marqui asked.

Inside the Corps, Marqui outranked Mika.

”I’ve seen strange Demon Gods inside the castle,” Mika said, tilting her head a little. “They seem to be getting in touch with nobles we pushed out before.”

 ”Any details?” Marqui asked.

”Still looking into it,” Mika said.

 Something felt wrong.

”Did the Head Maid have anything to say?” Marqui asked.

They had left several of their own lady’s maids in the Royal Castle to help the puppet king.

 ”Nothing special,” Mika said.

”I see. Thank you,” Marqui said.

Following the game’s story, Rennes would sneak into Akeios and head for the Royal Capital. Several events would happen along the way. She would break into the Royal Castle, lose her first fight with Rosella, get caught, and then Mika would secretly help her escape. There was even a scene where a rough guard tortured Rennes. Marqui had found it exciting. The game had not shown it clearly, but the words hinted at worse things.

But in this world, Rennes had not snuck into Akeios at all. Marqui had no idea what she would do next. And he had no idea what the Mika standing in front of him would do either.

”Hm? Is something wrong?” Mika asked.

 ”No,” Marqui said quickly.

”You shouldn’t look at other women with such interested eyes in front of your fiancée,” Mika said.

”Please don’t joke about that,” Marqui said.

”Oh my,” Mika purred, “but I’ve been dying to taste that impressive specimen I saw before.”

Rosella said nothing during their exchange. But the quill in her hand snapped.

”Mika Draguin,” Rosella said coldly, “take this and head for the Royal Castle.”

”As you wish, Your Highness,” Mika said with a curtsy. “And please, do take care of your bottom.”

 ”Wh-” Rosella started.

Mika gave a teasing grin and left.

”That woman,” Rosella hissed. “Marqui, you haven’t been won over by her charms, have you?”

”Nothing of the sort,” Marqui said.

He had seen her naked once, though.

”Hmph,” Rosella huffed. “Fine. I’ll trust you.”

”More importantly,” Marqui said, turning the talk back, “what do we do now? The Rulegard Kingdom side hasn’t made any moves. Just a request for prisoner returns.”

”What do you think, Marqui?” Rosella asked.

Besides Bianche, Rennes had three other friends: the Heavy Knight Princess of the Empire, a High Elf witch, and Mika. There were others, but they were hidden characters. You would need amazing luck to even meet them. No need to look for the princess or the High Elf ahead of time.

”I think we can clear up Her Highness Rennes’s misunderstanding,” Marqui said.

”We did get quite close, after all,” Rosella said dryly.

 It was out. She knew.

”I want to find the person behind all this,” Marqui said.

 ”What’s their goal?” Rosella asked.

Marqui could feel a will trying to push things along the game’s path. But who gained from that?

 ”Unknown,” Marqui said.

Was there someone out there who knew the game’s story? If they were a reincarnator like him, that would make them a serious threat. Anyone who could make BGM and title screens appear in the sky was not just strong. They were on a whole different level. The only other person who knew this was a game world was Lili Lim. And she was in the Demon Realm right now. Marqui wished he could talk to her.

”There are soldiers here who can’t forgive Her Highness Rennes for almost killing your brother,” Rosella said. “They’re itching for blood. That’s why I’m holding them back here.”

Having the King send a recall order would be easy. But this was exactly why she had come this far.

”Even if Her Highness Rennes said sorry, they probably would not accept it,” Marqui said.

”If she said she was guilty, they would ask for her execution,” Rosella said.

That meant they still needed to find the mastermind. Someone had to take that anger.

”What about the Nuutra Empire’s moves?” Marqui asked.

”I didn’t have time to ask Her Highness Rennes about that,” Rosella said.

”Too busy with her p**sy,” Marqui muttered.

Rosella shot him a hard look.

”Don’t bring that up again,” Rosella snapped. “If we’re getting help, it’d be from the west.”

”The Vega Merchant State, if I remember,” Marqui said.

”Yes. So I’ll send a scout team to the western-” Rosella began.

The door was pounded on, loud and hard.

 ”Enter!” Rosella called.

It was one of the scouts they had just been talking about. He had come back.

”Urgent report,” the scout said, breathing hard. “A huge monster has appeared west of the Rulegard Kingdom. It’s now fighting what looks like the Imperial army. But the beast is too strong. The Nuutra Empire force of about three thousand is expected to be wiped out within hours.”

Rosella’s face darkened. “A huge monster? How many of them?”

 ”Just one,” the scout said.

”Just one?” Rosella said. “What kind of monster are we talking about?”

”It’s the size of a mountain,” the scout said. “It’s covered in a very hard hide like armor. It looks like a creature called a hippopotamus I’ve seen in southern lands. But its color is reddish-brown and it has long tusks.”

”Thank you,” Rosella said. “I don’t know that monster.”

 But Marqui did.

”Behemoth…” he said under his breath.

Princess Knight Chronicles had made its behemoth look like the elephant-hippo mix from the old stories. There was no doubt.

”Marqui, you know what it is?” Rosella asked.

”A Demon Realm monster, the Hellbeast Behemoth,” Marqui said. “But why? This is too early.”

This was an event that was supposed to happen after Rennes escaped the Akeios Royal Castle dungeon and went back to Rulegard for a short time. The beast would be sent from the Vega Merchant State, which would already be under Akeios’s control. The lowest level to win was forty.

”Ah… Her Highness Rennes’s level…” Marqui said quietly.

Right. She was over forty now.

Still, they would need to weaken the beast first. The normal way was to meet the High Elf, save her, and then fight the behemoth. The hint came from the Akeios Royal Castle dungeon, from the elf slaves Rennes would question. But in this world, Rennes would not know that.

”Hm… what about moving Rulegard’s citizens away?” Marqui asked.

In the game, Rosella had been cruel. But this Rosella was worried about the people.

”The west is part of the Empire’s area,” the scout said. “If we’re in a friendly relationship, they would be completely not ready. In fact, villagers have been slow to run away, and people are dying.”

”I see…” Rosella said quietly. “If three thousand Imperial troops are going to be wiped out, then the Rulegard army…”

A Hellbeast could not just show up in the human world by itself. Someone had brought it from the Demon Realm. Someone else was doing what the Black Wing Corps had done in the game.

”Either way, innocent people are dying,” Rosella said.

 ”Your Highness?” Marqui asked.

”Marqui, get ready,” Rosella ordered. “Have the fortress gates opened.”

The scout panicked. “We’re attacking Rulegard at a time like this?”

”Huh?” Rosella said. “Don’t be stupid. We’re going to hunt the Hellbeast.”

”Wha, with our army?” the scout said.

”If we do that, they’ll think we’re invading,” Rosella said. “Marqui, just the two of us can handle this.”

The confident, proud look on Rosella’s face, it was exactly the one Marqui remembered from the game.

* * *

Back at the castle, Rennes was talking about future plans with the Akeios Kingdom when news came: a huge monster had shown up in the west. It was destroying villages and moving toward them. At first, Rennes thought the Nuutra Empire had tricked them. But the Imperial forces were under attack too. In the middle of all the mixed reports, Rennes made her choice.

”Akeios won’t attack,” Rennes said. “Have the army gathered at the northern fortress march west. I’ll go too.”

Rennes took Bianche and a small group of elite soldiers, riding ahead on horseback. Rulegard was not a big kingdom. But the beast moved fast. By nightfall, they were face to face with it.

”What… what is that thing?” Bianche said.

Its sheer size made it visible even from far away. The trees around it did not even reach its knees. Just like the reports said, it was a moving mountain. Each step shook the ground hard. The horses got so scared they would not move. Rennes got off her horse and ran.

At level forty-three, Rennes’s speed left Bianche and the elite knights far behind. She knew she was leaving them. But she had to get there as fast as she could. The monster was getting closer to another village.

As she got near, its real size became clear.

”How… how do you even stop something like that?” Bianche said, breathing hard.

She passed villagers running from the town. They were in a panic, too scared to even notice her. These were people from the village just before the forest. The land here was open plains. Good for running, but no cover.

”What happened to the Imperial army?” Rennes shouted.

A roar shook the sky. The force of it sent a strong wind blasting toward her.

 ”Tch…” Rennes gritted her teeth.

She saw people blown off their feet. But it looked like they had survived. This was only a warning. The beast’s mouth opened wide. Countless firefly-like dots of light began gathering into one point. A flash of light shot out. In one moment, the village was burned to nothing. Every building turned to ash.

The blast was as strong as the highest-grade magic. That kind of magic could only be used by a handful of people in the world.

She stood frozen. Then she shook her head hard.

If this went on, her beloved homeland would be destroyed. It would become a place where no human could live. How many more would die before then?

”A monster is still a living thing,” Rennes said. “There’s no reason we can’t kill it.”

This was a monster she had never seen or heard of. If you did not know what you were facing, you could not make a plan.

Rennes started running again. Her mind raced. If she could close the distance all at once instead of staying in that bad middle ground, she might find an opening.

To that thing, she was probably nothing more than an ant.

There was no place to hide. But she doubted a creature that big would even notice something so small.

Then, without question, the monster’s eyes locked onto her.

A front leg slammed into the ground.

The shake from it made her stumble. Her feet got tangled under her.

 And then it charged.

For a body that big, it moved with impossible speed.

Its head dropped low. From the corners of its mouth came long, sharp fangs aimed straight at her.

Without thinking, she pulled out her sword and blocked.

The hit launched her high into the air. She crashed back down onto the earth, landing on her spine.

 ”Ugh…”

 She was still alive.

Ever since the day her parents had been killed, she had been able to see her own strength and health. A number showed next to the letters HP. And it had dropped a lot.

If that hit zero, she died. Somehow, she understood that by instinct.

 ”Heal…!”

She had not brought any potions. She had been in too much of a rush.

Panic was starting to set in when –

 ”Rennes-sama!”

 Bianche caught up.

Rennes ordered a heal right away. Then she turned her look back to the monster. Now that she had fought it once, she could tell how strong it was.

 ”Level sixty-six… very high HP.”

Bianche was twenty-seven. The other elite knights were around the same. There was no way they could fight this thing together.

”Take care of the villagers who ran away.”

”What will you do, Rennes-sama?” Bianche asked.

 ”I’ll handle that thing.”

 ”That’s crazy!” Bianche said.

”Just slow it down. I need you to slow it down, even if only for a moment. And then, I have a request.”

She knew overwhelming power when she saw it.

”Go to the northern fortress. Ask the Akeios Kingdom Army for help.”

”Wait! Our own army will get here before that. If we work together – “

”No. I’m sorry, but our troops can’t bring that thing down. Tell them I’ll give myself up if they work with the Akeios Kingdom Army.”

 If she survived, that was.

 ”No way!” Bianche cried.

”Marqui is over there. You’ll get to see her.”

”Ugh… please, don’t joke about that,” Bianche said.

Bianche’s hesitation was clear. She had wavered, even if only for a moment.

”Anyway, once the villagers are safe, our forces will form a defense line to the rear and wait. That’s an order.”

”Come with us, Rennes-sama!” Bianche said.

”I can’t. Even with that size, it’s fast. Someone has to hold it back – “

Another roar cut through the air. It made a strong wind.

A flash attack was charging. Dots of light were gathering in the beast’s mouth.

If that thing hit her, she would not walk away unharmed.

 ”Bianche, run-“

 There was no time.

 Death flashed before her eyes.

 ”MARBLED MEAT!”

Something slammed into the giant beast’s side with crushing force.

CRASH! A woman who had just jumped into the fight hit the huge body with her sword.

The massive monster fell sideways. The flash attack fizzled out.

A shake bigger than any before hit the ground.

The woman landed, taking the recoil. Her boots stood firm on the earth.

Rennes had seen her before. Years ago, only once.

 ”Your Highness Rosella…”

* * *

The King of Akeios stood with his chin lifted a little. His look seemed to look down even on the giant beast.

It had happened just before they left the fortress.

”Oh my, where are you two off to? A date, maybe?”

It was Lili Lim. As always, she appeared out of nowhere.

”You’re back from the Demon Realm?” Marqui asked.

”Mm-hmm. Miss me, Marqui?” Lili said.

”There’s been so much going on, I barely had time to – “

Rosella gave a slightly troubled smile.

”Elder Sister, we’re in a hurry right now,” Marqui said.

”Oh? Well, I actually had a favor to ask you both. A Hellbehemoth was stolen from the farm in the Demon Realm,” Lili said.

”A Hellbehemoth?!” Marqui and Rosella said together.

”Wait, did it come to the human world?” Marqui asked.

”Looks that way. Oh? Have you seen it?” Lili asked.

 They both nodded.

”I heard about it from the kid at the Greed family. Ah, the farm belongs to Gluttony, one of their helpers. Apparently three Hellbehemoths were stolen. When I looked into it, someone had brought them into the human world,” Lili said.

”One of them is nearby right now,” Rosella said.

 ”Lucky us,” Lili said.

 ”Why?” Rosella asked.

”Mufun. The meat from the Hellbehemoths raised at Gluttony’s farm is all A5 grade. The finest quality. If I catch it, I’ll have to give it back. But if a human hunts it here, we get all-you-can-eat of the most delicious meat,” Lili said.

Rosella leaned forward. “R-really? It’s that tasty?”

 ”Yes. Marbled meat,” Lili said.

 Gulp.

”And it’s good for the lower body, too. I fed it to Marqui during his growth spurt. His d**k grew like bamboo shoots. I’m pretty sure that’s why he’s got such crazy stamina now,” Lili said.

Marqui had been eating it without even knowing.

”What about for women?” Rosella asked.

”Women get tougher too. That’s why it’s popular among the girls of Lust,” Lili said.

Now drooling, Rosella turned to Marqui. “We’re going hunting right now!”

”Since when were you such a food lover?” Marqui asked.

”A5 grade! Marbled meat! What should we make with it?” Rosella said.

”I think we had it as beef steak back then…” Marqui said.

 ”How was it?” Rosella asked.

”The tenderness… it almost melted. It was so good I ate three slices in a flash,” Marqui said.

”Now I want some too!” Rosella said.

Remembering it made Marqui hungry too.

”You two can take it down easily. Mufufu, I wouldn’t mind having some myself. It’s been a while,” Lili said.

”I want to call a chef from the Royal Capital,” Rosella said.

”The Cat Demon God’s cooking is as good as a top-class chef,” Lili said.

The Cat Demon God could do anything.

And so, their mission changed from rescue to appetite.

 —

 Summary:

Mika Draguin arrives at the northern fortress with intelligence that the impostor king is acting independently, prompting Rosella to draft a royal decree for a direct audience. Marqui senses an unknown force pushing events toward the game’s original scenario, raising the possibility of another reincarnator at work. While discussing strategy, urgent word arrives of a colossal Hellbeast appearing in the west, devastating the Nuutra Empire’s forces and threatening Rulegard’s villages. Rosella decides to hunt the beast personally with only Marqui as backup, while Rennes independently races toward the same threat.

Rennes faces a level sixty-six monster alone while ordering Bianche to escort villagers and seek reinforcements from Akeios. Rosella arrives in the nick of time, striking the beast with a single blow and canceling its flash attack. The scene then shifts to a flashback revealing that Lili Lim brought news of stolen Hellbehemoths from the Demon Realm, and Rosella’s true motive for hunting the creature is culinary rather than heroic.

 —

 Trivia:

Mika’s level is 83, making her the highest-level character explicitly mentioned in the chapter.

The Shadow Demon God is level 67, which is considered low for a pre-final-battle opponent.

Rennes’s level is 43, which is the minimum required to defeat the Hellbeast, but she needs to weaken it first.

The Hellbeast is supposed to appear after Rennes escapes the dungeon and returns to Rulegard – not this early in the timeline.

In the game’s original scenario, a different Demon God was the impostor king, not the Shadow Demon God.

Marqui knows about the torture scene involving Rennes and a brutish guard, and found it “stimulating.”

The game implies Rennes was sexually assaulted during captivity, though it wasn’t shown explicitly.

Lili Lim is currently in the Demon Realm dealing with the Lust faction encroaching on territory – the same faction whose territory is being challenged.

The BGM and title screen projections seen earlier were powerful enough that Marqui considers their user a threat beyond just “tough.”

Marqui saw Mika naked in the past, a detail she mentally recalls but does not share with Rosella.

Rosella broke her quill in anger during Mika and Marqui’s flirtatious exchange – a physical indicator of her jealousy.

The Black Wing Corps left several lady’s maids at the Royal Castle to assist the puppet king, indicating their level of control over the palace.

Rennes is unaware of the Hellbeast’s weakness because she hasn’t met the High Elf yet – a crucial piece of game knowledge Marqui possesses.

The scout describes the Hellbeast as resembling a hippopotamus but with reddish-brown hide and long tusks, matching the real-world behemoth’s traditional elephant-hippo hybrid depiction.

Marqui initially suspected the Nuutra Empire of betrayal when the monster appeared, but the Empire is also being attacked.

Rennes gained the ability to see HP and level values after her parents were murdered.

Bianche is level twenty-seven, while the monster is level sixty-six with abnormally high HP.

Rosella is the King of Akeios and has met Rennes once before, years ago.

A5 grade meat from Hellbehemoths raised by Gluttony is considered the highest quality.

Marqui was fed Hellbehemoth meat during his growth spurt without his knowledge.

The meat is said to enhance physical toughness for both men and women.

Lili Lim is connected to the Greed family and Gluttony’s farm in the Demon Realm.

Cat Demon God is capable of cooking at a level rivaling top-class chefs.

Rosella’s combat intervention shifts the mission objective from survival to appetite.
