Chapter 116

Edited by: Kanaa-senpai

Ayumu had been amazed by King Torygg’s solo fighting, but what shocked him even more was that the Queen Ant was still alive after taking so many attacks.

 ”Grrr… what a tough creature…”

Even King Torygg was sweating as he fought. His struggle surprised the dwarf warriors who had come with him. “Impossible! Even His Majesty, the greatest craftsman and warrior of all dwarves, cannot hurt it?!” “Is he all right? Can he win?!” they cried, looking at each other in disbelief.

 ”SKREEEE! SKREEEE! SKREEEEEEEEE!!!!!!”

 (Wh-what?!)

With that strange shriek, the queen’s body shone with a dark, dazzling light. Everyone turned their faces away, only to see that her missing legs and torn body were already healed by Ayumu’s attacks.

(What the hell?! Admin! That’s a cheat! Total cheat!!)

Ayumu screamed in his mind as he felt the danger closing in.

The fight between King Torygg and the queen was so fierce that if he or the others tried to help, they would only be killed by stray blows. All they could do was watch in silence, holding their breath.

”Isn’t there something we can do?!”

”Silence! Think of something now if you can!”

While Torygg’s retainers argued, the ground nearby broke apart with a crash! When they turned, they saw more Antsauroids crawling out from the broken ground. Reinforcements had arrived!

The soldier ants were large and strong. It was a nightmare.

(This is bad! I might really die here!!)

The queen recovering was already a crisis, but this made it worse. Enemy reinforcements now!

He regretted not leaving this to the local defense force and just evacuating.

As Ayumu panicked, one of Torygg’s retainers handed him a black, ominous book. “Ghh… I didn’t want to use this, but there is no choice…”

 (Huh?! I’ve seen this before!)

Yes, he had seen replicas many times. It was the forbidden book of knowledge, Kagura Magna.

(It must be a replica… they wouldn’t hand the real one to an outsider. But why now?)

As he wondered, another retainer whispered in a low voice, “Even if it has magic, letting an outsider read it is madness…” Ayumu thought he saw pity in his eyes, but maybe it was only his imagination.

”Lord Sanai! We ask this of you! While we hold them off, read the Kagura Magna!”

 (Huh?!)

Without waiting, the retainer dashed into battle.

 ”….”

Ayumu stared at the book. Judging by their reactions, this might be the real one. But the retainer’s last words bothered him.

Should he read it or not? Time was running out, but the danger felt too great. Could it really be safe?

”Ugh… no time to worry now…”

He did not want to do it. But he could not abandon King Torygg and the dwarves as they fought so hard. He had no other plan.

Even though he had a terrible feeling, Ayumu reluctantly opened the Kagura Magna.

”Uh… O great earth dragon Kagura Magna, answer my call?”

The words confused him. The Kagura Magna was supposed to be a book of forbidden knowledge, yet this made it sound alive.

 (Huh?)

He had read only one line when he felt his magic being drained. The ground rumbled louder and louder until cracks split the earth like an earthquake.

 (Oh crap! What is happening?!)

Without warning, he collapsed, out of magic. The cracks spread, life-threatening, and Ayumu fled in terror, snot dripping from his nose.

Those dwarven retainers must have had it in for him!

Looking around, he saw that King Torygg and the warriors had escaped too. Many Antsauroids had fallen into the cracks.

 Wait… something was crawling out.

 ”GROOOOAAAAAHHH!!!”

A dragon appeared, wrapped in a red and black aura, like a messenger from hell.

Ayumu recognized it. It was the same giant dragon statue in Valend that he had blown up with explosives while fighting the queen.

(No way!!! It’s not my fault! It was the queen ant! I didn’t insult you, Kagura Magna!!!)

Terrified, he tried to make excuses in his mind.

Then a voice spoke behind him. He turned quickly in fright.

”Ohhh… so that is Kagura Magna, the guardian god of the ancient elves… We lied to the world, calling it the Book of Ruin, because it was too strong a trump card…”

It was King Torygg, standing behind him.

At the same time, Kagura Magna’s blood-red eyes locked onto the Queen Ant, and the two monsters began to fight.
