Rhines inspected the potion with a scrutinizing gaze and said, “Hmph! Moderate quality. For a newcomer to be so cheeky…”
The faint edge in his voice suggested more dissatisfaction than praise. Perhaps Rhines was annoyed that he had effortlessly produced a finished healing potion on his very first try. When he handed over five copper coins as payment, Rhines snatched them with a brisk motion.
He thought, Isn’t this person unusually strict with apprentices?
After closing the shop, he spent another five copper coins to alchemize various potions—alertness potions, MP potions, antidotes—for both personal use and sale. Leaving early was rare, and Rhines seemed to visibly exhale, relieved. To avoid exploitation, he lied smoothly, claiming acquaintance with Baldric, the branch manager of another merchant guild under Elandric’s umbrella. Thanks to that, he secured the potions at regular prices.
The total earnings amounted to five gold coins and forty-two silver coins.
At this rate, I can proceed smoothly until independence… he thought, returning confidently to the inn.
