They fought over trade route tolls for ships and carriages in the Karelia region (known as the Karjala region in Elenda), as well as land and resources.
Backed by Livonia’s wealth and Yugan’s industrial military might, the war ended in Yugan’s favor at a peace conference. The Marquisate of Karjala had been the front line since the start of the war, and its people had risked their lives for the Kingdom of Elenda. However, in the peace treaty, the territory was ceded. The family was stripped of their rank, demoted to a Earldom, and their home was renamed the “Reminsgrad State” under an assimilation policy.
(Note: Although Yolminate’s family was forced into the Yugan Economic Alliance and benefits from it, they still stubbornly claim to be the “Marquis of Karjala” of Elenda and refuse to recognize Yugan’s sovereignty.)
As time passed- for better or worse- the system shifted from the Yugan Empire to the Free City Alliance. While they never returned to Elenda, Reminsgrad developed into a major trade hub between the two nations. The resources and land that once caused the war now bring economic prosperity to her family. Within the Alliance, they are known not only as wealthy but, as Earls, they hold seats in the Senate.
Because her home was geographically distant from both capitals, Yolminate was always late to the balls hosted by the royals of Yugan and Elenda due to landslides or falling rocks. Consequently, she failed to find a suitable husband her own age. Her mother, who came from Rostic, tried to set her up with every stable nobleman she could find, but Yolminate hated them all- they were nothing but old men and filthy geezers. To escape marriage, she ran away to become a knight, which led to a bitter fallout with her family.
(Note: Her father is Elendan and her mother is a Nerleian-Rostic. Having fled her home, she cannot use her father’s name and instead uses her mother’s Rostic surname.)

While I was reading the Peerage Almanac, the sun had already set. We had finished the day’s march and were camping out. I heard a commotion outside, so I stepped out of the commander’s trailer to see what was happening.
