Chapter 41 Alchemy

The next day, Ayumu worked at the bench in his shop, processing the aluminum and magnesium that had arrived.
Alchemy involves three processes: Decomposition, Synthesis, and Reconstruction. The method is surprisingly simple. All one needs to do is place the desired material on a workbench engraved with magical formulas, infuse it with mana, and visualize the outcome.
In a flash of light, the raw material transforms into the finished product—just like that!
”Amazing… it actually worked,” Ayumu muttered in awe.
Until now, he lacked the mana to perform alchemy. However, after consuming the [Magic Seed]—a seed-shaped magical item obtained from bandits—he gained the ability to wield magic, finally becoming a mana-wielding individual.
”And the precision is incredible… no wonder this world doesn’t need machining tools with this kind of craftsmanship.”
The container for the flash-bang grenade shells was exactly as he had envisioned. With this, he could achieve not just centimeter-level, but millimeter-level precision. And it was far safer than manual labor.
How the bandits acquired such a valuable item remained a mystery, but its effects were permanent. Though his mana reserves were still modest, the accompanying literature suggested practice would improve his abilities.
”Next, this…”
The loot from the bandits included more than just the [Magic Seed] and a hoard of gold coins.
There were also [Disposable Scrolls] and a [Scroll Manufacturing Manual]. These would significantly enhance his personal combat capabilities.
Ayumu tested a [Disposable Scroll], carefully inscribing the simplified formula for Lightning Magic as described in the manual. Once finished, all he needed to do was seal the mana within.
”Alright, let’s give it a try!”
But the result was underwhelming—a mere static discharge.
”Guess this is all my level can manage… might as well use it to start a fire,” he sighed, taking a drink of water to calm himself.
Soon after, he headed to the abandoned brewery on the outskirts of town. A week ago, he had purchased the facility, land, brewing equipment, and staff through a notary.
According to the notary, the owner had defaulted on debts, and the brewery was seized. Ayumu’s purchase at face value had delighted the creditors.
He retrieved his horse from the public stable, reflecting on their long companionship. It was time to give the horse a name.
At the stable, the trainer greeted him with a smile.
”Hey, young master. Heading out?”
”Yes, I’m off to check on the brewery I purchased. The staff should be ready for instructions.”
”Impressive for someone your age! Some people spend their lives as laborers,” the trainer remarked, nodding in admiration.
”And what’s with the sales pitch? You need something?”
”Haha, busted. The boss has been pushing me to sell new horseshoes. Yours has been wearing the same pair for ages. What do you say?”
Ayumu hesitated.
”Please, I need this sale. If I fail, my wife and daughter will be left with nothing. I’ll even include the fitting service.”
”Fine… do it. How soon can you replace them?”
”Got it! Thanks! That’s seven silver coins. I’ll prepare it right away.”
As the trainer left, Ayumu pondered a name for his horse.
”She’s a mare… how about… Beth.”
Thirty minutes later, the trainer returned with the horse.
”All set, young master.”
”Thanks. Here’s the payment. From now on, your name is Beth.”
Mounting Beth, Ayumu rode toward the outskirts of town.

Horses are truly swift—they soon arrived at the brewery.
Domesticated horses require hoof protection to prevent cracking, necrosis, or infection. With proper maintenance, they’re as reliable as machines—something Ayumu appreciated. Unlike humans, animals and machines didn’t complain or make demands. Perhaps they were more delicate than they seemed.
Lost in thought, they reached the brewery.
Over the past week, the facility had been prepared for operation. The staff, experts in fermentation and brewing, awaited his instructions.
”Welcome, master. Thank you for employing us. We’re ready to begin. What would you like us to produce?” the foreman asked, bowing respectfully.
”Good work. I need you to make vinegar, cooking sake, and fish sauce using the brewery’s equipment.”
”Understood, master. Fermentation will take about a month. Is that acceptable?”
”Yes, that’s fine. I’ll work on securing sales channels and will visit regularly, so don’t be surprised.”
With that, Ayumu mounted Beth and rode back toward town.
